Queen of the Mountain is here … one day early

Nineteen East Bay basketball teams are still alive in the Northern California regional playoffs, but it’s softball time!

The 26th annual Queen of the Mountain tournament is here, one day earlier than expected. The tournament was originally set to run this Thursday through Saturday, but a fallen light post at one of the fields at Willow Pass Park forced tournament director John Vasquez to move up some of the games to today. In today’s first-round games, Amador Valley plays Campolindo and Livermore takes on Benicia. Other teams get going tomorrow, and I’ve been told the matchups are still the same as on the original schedule, but fields and times may have changed.

Here’s a list of Thursday’s first-round games at Willow Pass Park: 4:30 p.m. — Concord vs. Berkeley, Monte Vista vs. Miramonte, California vs. Antioch.
6:45 — Irvington vs. San Ramon Valley, Arroyo vs. Liberty, Washington vs. Granada.

In first-round action today, Amador Valley beat Campolindo 17-1 while Benicia beat Livermore 4-1. Amador Valley then topped Benicia 13-0.
