How to follow the CIF state hoops championships? UPDATED

Can’t make it to Sacramento for this weekend’s California Interscholastic Federation state basketball championships? Here’s what you need to know to catch the game you are most interested in.

The only games that will be televised are the Division I and Division II games. Let me repeat that: The only games that will be televised are the Division I and Division II games.

On Friday, the Division II games will be broadcast live in Northern California on CSN California. For most of the Bay Area, CSN California is available on Comcast on Channel 41 or in HD on Channel 721 (the games this year will be broadcast in HD).  On DirecTV, that’s Channel 698, on Dish Network it’s 409 and on AT&T U-verse it’s Channel 767 of 1767 for HD. Click here for the full list of channels for the other smaller cable providers. The games will also be available online at www.foxsportswest.com.

Here’s Friday’s TV schedule:

Girls Division II: Rialto (33-3) vs. St. Mary’s-Stockton (28-2), 6 p.m.
Boys Division II: Summit-Fontana (28-7) vs. Archbishop Mitty-San Jose (31-2), 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the Division I games will be shown live, this time switching to CSN Bay Area. In the Bay Area, on Comcast that’s Channel 40 or 720 in HD. It is Channel 696 on DirecTV, 419 on Dish Network and 770 on AT&T U-verse (1770 in HD). For Saturday’s games, only the Division I girls game will be shown online at www.foxsportswest.com. The boys Division I game will not be shown online.

Here’s Saturday’s TV schedule:

Girls Division I: Mater Dei-Santa Ana (33-1) vs. Berkeley (31-1)
Boys Division I: Mater Dei-Santa Ana (31-3) vs. De La Salle (27-5)

Those are the only four games that will be shown on TV and only three of those games (all except Division I boys between Mater Dei and De La Salle) will be available to view on the web.

It looks as though KBC Sports will be providing live video broadcasts for the non-televised state championship games. Click here for the link to the KBC live events schedule.  KBC is doing the Division III boys, Division IV boys and girls and Division V boys and girls. The Division III girls game featuring Bishop O’Dowd will stream live on www.santamariatimes.com.

As always, you can bank on our blog to provide coverage of all the games involving local teams. Stephanie Hammon and I will be on hand Friday afternoon for the boys Division V game between St. Bernard-Playa del Rey and St. Joseph Notre Dame at 1:30 p.m. Stephanie will provide the play-by-play, I’ll add some occasional color.

Saturday is when we get really busy with local teams playing in all six games. I’ll kick off the blog action with the Division IV girls game between Windward-Los Angeles and St. Mary’s at 9:30 a.m. Stephanie may pop in some color here and there. The Division IV boys game between Windward and Salesian at 11:15 a.m. will likely be a group blogging effort. I’ll be covering the game, Stephanie will be writing up her story from the previous game and Ben Enos may be there in time to handle the bulk of the blogging.

The remainder of the day, Ben will be your blog master general, providing the action from the remaining four games. Although, Stephanie and I will pop in from time to time and probably take over for a little while to allow Ben to fill his belly and rest his fingers. Should be a fun and busy day. So you have it, here’s a full list of the two-day schedule of games.
