East Bay Boys Volleyball Notes: Leagues, Rankings, Standings

Let’s take a look at who the possible league favorites are as league play is under way.

With De Anza losing a lot of talent from last year’s squad, it appears that the league is controlled by Alameda at this point. Berkeley is an unknown factor as of right now, and El Cerrito seems to have the ability to play good volleyball on a given night.

This league has some balance to it, with College Prep and Valley Christian appearing to be the two teams that will battle it out at the top. Redwood Christian is off to a good start as well and shouldn’t be discounted.

St. Patrick-St. Vincent is the team to beat. The Bruins are off and running again. They are 10-1, and just had a big win over College Prep. If I was allowed to rank them with the East Bay teams, they’d be in the top ten.

Deer Valley is the class of the league once again. Jason Agopian and the gang appear to be one of the top two or three teams in the entire East Bay and should be considered heavy favorites.

Campolindo should be considered the favorite, with Dougherty Valley looking to have the ability to make a run, and Acalanes as well. There should be some good competition in the two and three spots, with those teams looking to push Campo when they get a chance.

Northgate, once again, is the favorite here. Clayton Valley and College Park both look like they could give the Broncos a challenge, and don’t sleep on Berean Christian.

De La Salle, as the top team in the East Bay, is an easy pick to be the favorite in their league. However, the Spartans are in the toughest league. They are certainly the heavy favorite, but Foothill and Amador Valley might have something to say about that when it’s all said and done.

Mission San Jose looks to be the favorite, and is one of the top teams in the area. The team that appears most able to give the Warriors a run would be Logan, and American looks like it might be able to challenge this year.

The top four stay the same, with Campo jumping to No. 5 after a seven-win week. Amador Valley climbs with a pair of EBAL wins. The top seven look like the elite teams as of right now, with the eight below them having the ability to upend anyone at any time.
Valley Christian and Dougherty Valley both debut in the rankings this week. College Park and Antioch or on my watch list of teams next to move in if someone slips up and they keep winning.

How is san Ramon ranked below amador? They beat them easily at the deer valley tournament.

If head to head is all that matters, then it would be easy to do rankings.
Monte Vista beat Mission San Jose, but you have to account for every other thing that happens throughout the season.

Matt is right. At Deer Valley tournament. Campo lost to mission sj and msj lost to mv and mv lost to campo in the gold. Campo beat deer valley and lost to San Ramon in the semi. However there are teams out there with a great records but did not play any good teams. But still rank top ten. That is what I don’t get. We should know in a few weeks to see which teams are worthy of top ten and which are not. Thanks
