The opening day of the 10th annual Standley Cup softball tournament came to a close at Oliver Park in Hayward.
Castro Valley and Bishop O’Dowd both were pushed to the limit before pulling out extra inning victories.
The Trojans needed 10 innings to defeat Irvington 12-8 while the Dragons scored a run in the top of the sixth inning to outlast Clayton Valley 8-7. Castro Valley also defeated Berkeley 9-1 to win the Blue division and a berth to Saturday’s semifinals.
Other scores were: Newark Memorial 10, Tennyson 0; Pinole Valley 6, Petaluma 0; Moreau Catholic 15, Las Lomas 4; Washington 15, Las Lomas 1; Alameda 6, American 3.
