Mack’s Marshall signs with No. Colorado

More good news keeps coming out of the McClymonds High football program.

McClymonds running back Ernest Marshall signed a letter of intent over the weekend to play football at Northern Colorado, a Football Championship Subdivision school in Greeley, Col.
Marshall was a first-team Oakland Athletic League All-City selection at running back and also started at linebacker for the Warriors, who went 12-0 and won the Oakland Section’s Silver Bowl. He rushed for 1, 438 yards and 12 touchdowns, including 186 yards and two scores in the 42-26 Silver Bowl win over Fremont.
Marshall was considering attending a junior college to play football before he received interest from Northern Colorado recently. He made a trip to the campus over the weekend and signed during the visit.
“I like the whole feel of the school,” Marshall said. “The coaching staff was amazing. The facilities are amazing. I like the opportunity I have to come and compete for a starting job.
“Nothing can really compare to what I appreciate for the chance to play. It motivates me and strives me to work harder and harder.”

  • Wolf Man

I here you Coach Mac & EarHustler but neither one of yaw have still answered my one simple question?? Will Mack be good next year or will they be a one year wonder like Bill Johnson asked?? Also Coach Mac if you can’t handle the HEAT of the Blogs you should STAY OFF THEM!!!! & for the record Coach Mac I’m not a Coach so I haven’t Coached any player who recieved a scholarship but I’ve followed you on the Blog all year & I couldn’t help but notice that you tend to talk about things that are not always true cause I’ve been following the OAL & NCS for a years & I never seen Carter, Beam or Ladouceur Bragging about how many D-1 players they had cause you’re not even close cause they would do 4 (not 8) on a Bad Year!!!!!

  • Wolf Man

Also JB”DON” I agree with you it doesn’t matter were you transfer from to get a better education cause everybody OAL & NCS, Mr. EBfootball have kids that transfer for various reasons in various sports so let’s not just focus on football in the OAL cause I’m from the NCS & they have some baggage also??

  • Billjohnson

jb don how u guys lookin this season? Contenders or pretenders? Who u playn in non league jb?

  • EBfootball

Exactly Wolf Man… NCS doesn’t just let anyone transfer and be eligible. Action is taken by NCS when things aren’t on the up n up. And please read my post again because I make points that are beyond football (ADA is “average daily attendance” which determines how much money a school gets from the state… more kids=more money)

  • JB”DON”

We will be contenders this year we open with James Logan. The kids are really working hard this off season so I am looking past the 1st round and maybe more this year. lol I never coach pretenders for the record we had a good season last year for a team with 75% of the team call ups from the 2009 jv team.

    Don Pride !!
“5-P’s” (Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance)

  • Wolf Man

Coach Mac since you’re questioning my back round & what I’ve done are you the Coach that Coached at Oakland High & went 0-10??? Also get real & schedule some more of our NCS playoff contenders this year out my way Deer Valley, Heritage, Freedom & Pitt Hs again!!!!

  • Coach Mac

    Wolf Man -

Yes I did go 0-10 at Oakland High. As you know and been following the OAL you know that at Oakland High there has been tremendous turnover there with head coaches like 6 coaches in 7 years. I’m not making excuses but the average age of that team was 15 years old. I rebuild with what I had which wasn’t bad. Demonte Horton – Washington State, Ryan Murphy – Oregon State etc. I took my lumps with truly a JV team. I’ll have you note that two of the 3 silver bowls Mack won I was the Defensive Coordinator with Alonzo Carter. I also won the first Silver Bowl in its history as a player at Oakland High 10-0 in 1981. I was the Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator at Caslemont in 2008 for that Silver Bowl Championship its first. Add this 12-0 season that makes 5 championship rings both as player and coach. What have you done besides hate on the blogs?

  • Coach Mac

Wolfman – By the way, I attempted to schedule Pitt to come to Mack this year since we played and beat them in pittsburg but they replaced us with Jefferson in S.F. A real cupcake.

  • http://ibabuzz.com PERKIN

    Pitt dropped you?

  • Coach Mac

    Perkin – yes

  • EBfootball

I’d like to see Mack vs Encinal. Can you make that happen Coach Mac? You have an opening and that would be a quality win for state qualifying purposes.

  • Wolf Man

Well there you go again bragging on other Coaches players Demonte Horton or Ryan Murphy wasn’t Coached by you there Jr or Sr Years so you can’t take credit for them cause if that’s the case you have 2 give the Lowell & Deer Valley Coaches credit for Coaching Ernest, Travon & John right since they were all 10th & 11th Graders!! & Coach Mac you can’t talk about Pitts schedule cause U played Thurgood Marshall(SF) EBfootball is right why don’t you call Encinal for a Game?? & no matter what you say 0-10 is 0-10 and I’m not a Coach but that’s not to Good!!

  • JustMaybe

0-10 might not be good, but 12-0 is 12-0. I’m not a coach either, but 12-0 sure is good. And it’s current!!!!

  • NCS Fan

Wolf Man what the hell is your problem?

    Dude give it up already!

  • http://ibabuzz.com PERKIN

I’m just curious did you have a 2 year contract & they dropped you or was it a one year thing?

  • HAAL Spectator

wolfman why dont you get off of coach mac’s nuts bro. Go hate on someone else.

  • Wolf Man

NCS Fan & HAAL Spectator knowbody is on Coach Mac’s Nuts or Hating on him I’m just stating the facts!!! Also if you’re really a HAAL Fan you probaly wouldn’t understand nothing about guys getting D-1 scholarships out of High School cause every year the HAAL is a joke when it comes 2 getting kids scholarships but hopefully that will change now with the new Coaches at Arroyo & O’Dowd but the rest of Coaches in that league are a Joke so don’t get me started on yaw!! & Yes 12-0 is Great but is Coach Mac a 1 year wonder or can he put it down & Win on a consitent basis like Coach Joe Tonerio(Encinal), Ladouceur(DeLaSalle), Bergman(Monte Vista), & Vic Galli (Pittsburg) Go Pirates!!

  • Coach Mac

    Mandown -

I can’t say that I will win another championship this season or the next. But I can tell you that we will be young and competitive. I can’t put myself in the same class of Ladouceur,Bergman,Galli,Carter. These are great coaches. With an enrollment of 250 students 75 male it is a challenge to just put a team on the field. We had 22 players this year. If I had access to 3500 students, 3 levels of teams maybe I could become a legend.

  • Coach Mac

Opps I meant Wolfman instead of Mandown

  • EBfootball

Legend? Just because you won the Silver Bowl and beat a down Pitt team? Silver Bowl is a glorified league title not a championship. If you consistently (for a decade or two) make some noise in a real playoff (NCS, CCS, SJS, NS) then someone might put the word “legend” in the same sentence as your name. Who calls themself a legend anyway? You poppin your collar way to hard. I guess you need some startch.

  • Coach Mac

    EBfootball reread #68.

  • JustMaybe

I guess this must be the “slam coach mac” thread. For whatever reason, coach mac, no matter what you say, you’re wrong on this board. If you congratulate your kids, you’re popping your collar. If you mention your success last year, 12-0 is nothing compared to other coaches, blah blah blah….

All these “wish they could coach a team” bloggers! In a few months, they’ll jump back on the private school’s advantage, DeLa recruits, bandwagon!

  • just wanna say

EBfootball the only Legend in your list is Ladoucer period end of story!!

If Coach Mac hopes to be like him some day more power to him. But he clearly stated “I can’t put myself in the same class”

Do you know how to read??

  • EarHustler

    Coach Mac,
    Reread #24

  • T-Mobile 44

WOLF MAN. Coach Mac is the best coach in the OAL by far. If Coach Mac wants to pop his collar because he is getting kids into college what is the problem?

  • ManDown

T-Mobile 44, I think Coach Mac is a good coach but I wouldn’t say that he is the best coach in the OAL by far. The guys down at Fremont do a hellava job and they have those boys competing. The only consistent team in that league in recent history is Fremont. They have played in the last three silver bowls and don’t be surprised if you see them there again this year. I hear they are loading up for another run for the title.

  • T-Mobile 44

ManDown: Please don’t for get that Coach Mac was a part of all of the coaching staff when Coach Carter had those great years at Mack.

Coach Mac sends kids to college. The guy over at Fremont has not sent anyone anywhere except to Laney.

    Give Coach Mac his credit!

  • ManDown

T-Mobile 44, I am very aware that Coach Mac was on Carters staff but my point was he is not “the best coach by far” in the OAL. Do you even know where the Fremont coach came from? He also coached for some very good teams. Just don’t get besides yourself saying he’s way better than anyone else in that league because he’s not. Don’t judge a coach by how many players they have sent to college because we all know in the end kids still have to do the work.

  • Wolf Man

T-Mobile 44 it’s pretty obvious that you’re not to bright because ManDown in making my point exactly because I asked Coach Mac on question #14 how good will they be next year because ManDown is right Fremont Hs has been in the Silver Bowl three years in a row so before you go making Coach Mac the Best Coach after one season let’s see if he can maintain McClymonds football team winning tradition for more than one year? Also T-Mobile 44 I repeat know one is Hating on the man but I’ve been reading his Blogs all season and couldn’t help but notice that he bragged on having 8 scholarships players but in reality he only had 4? We don’t do that in the NCS that’s like lying on how many Girlfriends you have to make yourself seem more macho or important. LOL, I’m just asking the brother to keep it real? Go Pirates!

  • T-Mobile 44

    WolfMan/Mandown

Both of you didn’t answer my question… How many kids did the Fremont coach send to college? If you can remember Mack was horrible after Coach Carter left.
Not only did he turn the program around in one year he did not loose a game! Oh and by the way, Mack did beat three NCS teams including Pitt.

  • ManDown

T-Mobile 44. Coach Mac has been there for two years now and he’s going into his third with Mack. You want to talk about a turn around then you should be talking about how Fremont’s coach took a horrible team and the very next year he was in the silver bowl. Like I said before, don’t judge a coach by how many players get scholarships because nots not an easy thing to do. Remember the STUDENT has to do his work and have grades high enough to even be considered. Plus, didn’t Concrete get a scholarship to Utah?

  • T-Mobile 44

ManDown: No Concrete is at a JC in Utah. Why would a powerhouse school like Pitt cancel the second year of there contract with MACK? Coach Mac is the only OAL coach to beat them in recent times. Give the man his credit. WOLFMAN…

  • ManDown

Concrete is at a JC in Utah because of what? His grades wernt good enough to enter at that time. Like I said the student still has to do the work. You’re putting it like Coach Mac went inside the classrooms and did the work for his players. I give coach Mac credit for the good season and the players that recieved scholarships but you are trying to say that he way better than every other coach in the league and thats not true. Who really knows why Pitt canceled the second season against Mack. Do you? I wouldn’t be so happy about that win since Pitt had its worst season of the decade. You’re talking about beating a team who had a losing record and went one and done in the playoffs. Give me a break.

  • JustMaybe

Grades aren’t the only reason an athlete goes to a JC first.

  • I told you

Concrete was the best player in the area when he was a senior. The coach should of that there is life for the players outside of the OAL. There is no way that he should not be playing at a Div 1 school somewhere.

Coach Mac was able to identify the abilities in his players in and outside the classroom. That makes a huge difference.

I don’t know why the Pitt Coach canceled the game. Maybe his team is going to be worse…

Here is a fact, MACK beat Pitt… No excuses!

  • Joe

McClymonds in last three seasons: 19-14, 7-8 OAL (including the disaster 2-8, 0-5 before coach mac arrived)
    Fremont: 20-16, 10-7

Now I like what Fremont does. Their offense is creative (though somewhat one-dimensional and not superbly productive), defense usually stout. But that said, this three-year run is not exactly dominant. Heck, they won the Silver Bowl at 5-7.

  • ManDown

Joe, I agree with you. Im not saying Fremont is the greatest but I don’t like the fact that someone said Coach Mac is the best coach in the OAL by far. By far? That can’t be true if another school is appearing in the silver bowl year after year. I’m not crowning Fremont by any means because they can’t win games outside the OAL but if we are talking strictly OAL then you have to say Fremont’s coach isn’t bad either.

  • I told you

    ManDown:

If you have ever seen an OAL game you would know that the level of play is much different than games that you see when OAL schools play outside their area. This might not makes sense to you but the games are much more intense and competitive. Every week there is a rivalry that goes back to the fifties.

  • I told you

    Coach Mac:

Since Pitt dropped you for this year, who are you going to replace them with?

  • Joe

I will give Coach Mac a great deal of credit. They just smashed the league this season. Beat a 9-3 Ferndale team, beat a D-1 BVAL champ, beat the D-4 champ, all with a team drawn from a school that fits in D-5 size-wise in NCS. The year before they do OK against an ok schedule.

I dunno if I put him ahead of a long-timer like Edwards at tech. But outside of that, look at the OAK. Skyline had its first kind of ok season since Beam, and that was 3-8 with a very good non-con schedule. O-Hi replaced a coach mid-season. Castlemont had a rocky first season under White. I respect what Fremont’s done, but that staff is only in it’s third season. In only one season Mac had done pretty darn well.

Again, I took a free Friday to take in Fremont after watching one game because I just enjoyed the way they played. But Mac was LEGIT and may well be in the future

  • ManDown

Coach Mac did smash the league last year and everybody else they played. He deserves credit for that no doubt. But for a team with the school size of D5 NCS school, they get some of the best players in the Bay Area and when you have 8 players that can play D1 ball on one team you should be killing teams with maybe 1 or none.

To me Edwards should be doing a lot better than what he is. He gets the best numbers in the OAL besides Skyline and he can’t seem to put together a solid team every year. Only time he’s competing for an OAL title is when he has a stacked team with stud D1 players everywhere on the field. Sorry but the guy isn’t that great of a coach to me but he does get his guys to college and you have to respect that.

  • Wolf Man

Was he the Coach of the Year when he was 0-10 at Oakland High just 3 years ago when McClymonds won a championship under Coach Eric Culberson? Get off this Coach Mac parade cause his overall record as a Head Coach is 17-16 are you serious? He had one good year and that’s fine but let’s not make him Coach of the Year when he’s only had one winning season as a Head Coach in his coaching career! Although Mack did beat Pittsburg and they did have a bad year Vic Galli’s record is far more better than Coach Mac

  • josequavvvo

Good luck and good job by Coach Mac, im a DV alumni and i know John and Travon personally and i believe they are both D-1 prospects. As far as Mack being bette rthan the NCS come on dude yeah this was a bad pitt team but still pitt came in conference and won out. you have to remember Mack came and played Liberty in brentwood and TIED and thats the worst team in NCS as far as competition i honestly believe OAL teams are no where near NCS teams without the transfers.
