East Bay Boys Volleyball Notes: Playoffs, Rankings, Standings

The playoffs start in exactly one month from today. Let’s look at the playoff picture.

Division I

Locks: Amador Valley, California, De La Salle, Deer Valley, Foothill, Misson San Jose.

At this point, right now, Cal would be a lock at 12-5 after the run they’ve been on. Amador is floating around .500 overall and in league, but with the ability they have, and the schedule they’ve played, they’ll be fine.

Should be in: Logan, San Ramon Valley.

I would guess these would be the last two teams in, right now. Both teams have beaten CP, who would be my next team in.

On the Bubble: American, Antioch, College Park, Freedom, Monte Vista, Pittsburg, San Ramon Valley, Washington.

Division II

Locks: Campolindo, Dougherty Valley, Drake, Northgate.

Don’t know much about the Redwood Empire teams, but I know Drake is very good. These three East Bay teams are locks.

Should be in: Clayton Valley, El Cerrito.

El Cerrito leads the ACCAL at the moment, and would get the automatic bid. Clayton seems safe at the moment.

On the Bubble: Acalanes, Alameda, Kennedy

Acalanes is a very good team, but have played a tough schedule. I think if they finish above .500 in any of the categories, they’ll get in. Alameda needs to beat El Cerrito next time around to have a chance. Kennedy’s overall record is good, keeping them in the running.

Division III

Locks: College Prep, St. Patrick-St. Vincent, Valley Christian.

These three are run away favorites to be top four seeds.

Should be in: El Molino, Marin Catholic, Redwood Christian.

Don’t know much about El Molino and Marin Catholic but they’re usually good.

On the Bubble: Berean Christian, Salesian.

Both teams are hovering around .500 in league and overall, so if they can pick up a few wins, they could get in.

Rankings

Since losing to Deer Valley in a close match in the finals of the San Ramon Valley Tournament, the California High squad has been on a tear. Cal has won eight straight, including winning the Chico Tournament, including a 2-0 win over Mission San Jose.
Since starting the year 1-3, Cal has gone 11-2 and looks like a team to contend with, hence jumping up all the way to No. 4. A tough couple weeks in the EBAL lay ahead for the Grizzlies.
Dougherty Valley jumps into the top ten after a solid showing in Chico, and American climbs back into the top 15.
