De La Salle High running back Lucas Dunne, who helped lead the Spartans to the CIF Open Division title this year, said Friday that he’s headed to Berkeley to play rugby for Jack Clark and the Golden Bears next season.

Three East Bay players are among the 440 nominees for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. De La Salle quarterback Bart Houston, San Ramon Valley quarterback Zach Kline and Salesian offensive lineman Freddie Tagaloa are nominees for the game that will be played on Jan. 7, 2012 at 10 a.m. on NBC. Click here for a full list of the nominees. Kline has already accepted an invitation to the Under Armour All-American game on Jan. 5, so I’d expect that’s where we’ll see him play rather than in this game.

St. Mary’s High freshman Spencer Moore took a distance triple one step further Saturday at the Bay Shore Athletic League track and field championships.
After winning the girls 1,600, 800 and 3,200 meters, Moore ran a 1 minute, 1.5 second split for the victorious St. Mary’s 1,600 relay team (4:16.9) in the final event of the meet at Piedmont.
“One race at a time,” said Moore about her focus during the meet. “Don’t think of a future race, just think of the race at hand.”
After winning the 1,600 in 5:24.6, Moore took the lead in the first 150 meters of the 800 on her way to a time of 2:21.06. In the 3,200, she waited until the fifth lap before taking the lead for good and winning with a time of 12:15. She also took the lead in the 1,600 relay while running the second leg of the race. She said she would be dropping the 800 for the North Coast Section Bay Shore Area Championships.
Teammate Trinity Wilson defended her league title in the girls 100 high hurdles (14.00) and also was victorious in the 200 (25.48). There was no wind information available.
“It’s getting way better,” said Wilson about a reoccurring hip flexor problem. She said Saturday that she had not practiced hurdles for a week and a half.
The performances of Moore and Wilson helped St. Mary’s win the girls championship meet team title with 171 points. The St. Mary’s boys also finished first with 172 points.
Ali Roosevelt won two individual events and had a hand in two relay victories for the Panthers boys. He swept the 100 and 200 titles with times of 11.11 and a personal-record 22.10 respectively, and also ran legs for the first-place St. Mary’s 400 relay (43.25) and 1,600 relay (3:28.63) squads.
Piedmont’s Mariano Roy won both boys hurdles races. After edging Kennedy’s Kenneth Walker III in the 110 high hurdles (15.85 to 15.87), he again used a late charge to take the 300 intermediate hurdles title in 41.50. Walker III, who reached the California Interscholastic Federation state championship finals in the 110 hurdles last season as a Freedom sophomore, said he has been working on rehabilitating a hamstring injury.
Lauren Remer broke a Piedmont High record that was set in 1979 when she won the girls 400 title in 57.50 seconds. Encinal’s Devonyo Bills won the boys long jump with a personal-record leap of 22-3.
