Miramonte’s Davis headed to Chico

Got a little baseball recruiting news today. Miramonte infielder Tyler Davis, a very talented hitter who can pick it at either second or third base, has orally committed to Chico State.

“I just saw myself waking up in the morning playing baseball,” Davis said. “I really liked the campus. I thought the academics would fit me well.”

Davis orally committed this week, but will likely sign next week. He’s been a standout for the Matadors on both the diamond and gridiron, moving from safety to linebacker this year on the football field. He had talked to several other schools, and had an offer from Whittier College to play both sports.

He takes with him quite a bit of versatility as a baseball player, having played both second and third base for the Matadors. This year, he’s starting at third.

“They’re looking me at both,” Davis said. “They’re looking at me at third base but if I’m good enough,  I can play second base as well.”

Davis also takes some lofty hitting stats with him. He finished the regular season with a .462 average, 26 runs and 23 RBIs. He stole 10 bases, and 15 of his 37 hits went for extra bases.
