Stephenson named Gatorade POY

Just got an email informing us that Robert Stephenson, the Alhambra High right-hander projected to be a first-round draft pick in next week’s Major League Baseball draft, has been named the Gatorade Player of the Year for California.

Stephenson is now a finalist for the Gatorade National POY award, which has been won by names like Derek Jeter, Roy Halladay and Chipper Jones.

I’ll try to chat the award-winner himself up and get some reaction for ya shortly.

Wow! Congratulations Mr. Stephenson! It would be nice to see another N CA player get a coveted POY award. Best of luck!

That is a great honor…from watching him pitch a few times under less than ideal circumstances, he looks like a kid who has a lot of poise…goes along real well with a 96 mph heater!
