Lockie commits to Oregon

More proof that the East Bay is quarterback central this year. Monte Vista signal-caller Jeff Lockie has orally committed to Oregon.

“I’ve been kind of eying it for a while. My brother goes there,” Lockie said. “The relationship with the coaches and the offensive setup was the right fit for me.”

Lockie checks in at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds and definitely has the wheels and arm strength to be the dual-threat quarterback that Oregon likes. He is rated as a 3-star recruit by Rivals.com and a 2-star by Scout.com. He’s also extremely smart, having carried a 4.0 GPA during his junior year.

He becomes the third incoming senior quarterback in the East Bay Athletic League to pledge to a big-time school, joining San Ramon Valley’s Zach Kline (Cal) and De La Salle’s Bart Houston (Wisconsin).

Lockie had an offer from San Diego State, but when Ducks quarterbacks coach Mark Helfrich gave the offer, the Mustangs leader knew which way he wanted to go.

And Lockie knows what’s going on at Oregon right now, saying that he did consider the current turmoil regarding football scout Willie Lyles and his relationship. He said he talked it over with his parents before making the committment.

“We’re not going to worry about that,” Lockie said. ” If that’s the place I want to be, then that’s the place I want to be.”

Lockie joins Whitney-Rocklin’s Jake Rodrigues as the Ducks’ 2012 quarterback commits.
