Change is in the air with regards to Amador Valley High girls sports.

The highly successful Elizabeth Stanley returns to coach the Dons girls basketball team after coaching at Ohlone College and Granada. Also, Bill Coupe is out as the Dons girls soccer coach after six seasons. Neither Coupe or school principal Jim Hansen would comment on the reason he has not been retained. Coupe, a former Amador Valley principal, guided the Dons to a 3-9-2 EBAL mark last season and a seventh-place finish.

Stanley, a co-coach with John Radecke at Granada last winter, enjoyed a remarkable run with the Dons, where she amassed a 200-49 record over eight years including five North Coast Section Division II titles. She had a run of three consecutive Northern California Division II championships (1999-2001) and as many state runner-up finishes. She left Amador Valley in 2001 to guide the Ohlone women’s team for eight years. Stanley has over 20 years experience coaching at a variety of levels. She was California Coaches Association Coach of the Year for girls basketball in 2000.
