First 2011 East Bay Girls Volleyball Rankings

It’s hard not to go with the defending Division I champs, considering a solid defense returns for Dusty Collins squad. People throughout the East Bay know that Collins’ teams will always be in the running.
Despite a new coach and losing a few key players, Bishop O’Dowd has plenty of talent. San Ramon Valley is also returning some talent after last year’s run to the D I finals, and despite losing a bunch of key seniors, don’t count out Division III state champion Campolindo which checks in at No. 4.
Cal rounds out the top five as the Grizzlies could be in the running for an EBAL crown.
1. Foothill
2. Bishop O’Dowd
3. San Ramon Valley
4. Campolindo
5. California
6. Carondelet
7. Albany
8. Amador Valley
9. Miramonte
10. Northgate
11. Deer Valley
12. Heritage
13. Berean Christian
14. Mission San Jose
15. Moreau Catholic

Matt – Good top five for sure. Dusty’s going to have a good team with a solid front-line, and Dusty’s solid coaching, but they lost five senior starters from last year, including their setter. I’d put them behind both SRV and Cal in EBAL with both of those teams bringing back a lot of starters and their setters from last year (for sure with Cal and I think so with SRV). Fwiw, I’d probably put O’Dowd first, especially if they run a lot of their offense through Lacey Maas in the middle.

Matt – By the way it’s good to see you still in the saddle this year

You are 100 percent correct, that top five could go any way. SRV, BOD and Cal are going to be so solid. That EBAL race will be great. I’m curious how BOD responds without Mike Gee at the helm anymore.

I agree that SRV and Cal will be in the hunt again this year in the EBAL, but nobody is going to overlook Foothill. BOD’s Lacey Maas is the daughter of former Yankee and Cal Berkeley baseball player Kevin Maas, and is quite a player.

What about Logan High School and Irvington High School? Although there was talent lost, I’m sure those teams are better than Moreau or Mission San Jose…
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

I will be doing some previews here on the blog as the season goes along, starting with a league outlook and things of that nature.
I don’t get to do one big preview, but will do them during the early part of the season, focusing on teams, players, etc…
