Former O’Dowd star Ashley commits to Arizona

According to multiple reports, former Bishop O’Dowd star Brandon Ashley has committed to the University of Arizona. Ashley transferred from O’Dowd to Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev., earlier this summer. He has soared up to the No. 4 ranked recruit in the nation by ESPN and the No. 2 power forward in the country.

Ashley was a two-time All-East Bay first-team selection while at O’Dowd, helping the Dragons reached the California Interscholastic Federation Division III state championship game the past two seasons. He battled Lutheran-La Verne’s Grant Jerrett, also an Arizona commit, in last year’s state title game. He outplayed Jerrett, but the Dragons lost 64-59, their second straight heartbreaking state title game defeat.

Ashley had narrowed his four finalists to Arizona, UCLA, Oregon and Kentucky. He had earlier narrowed a top seven that included Georgia Tech, Syracuse and Texas, with Cal not making the cut in the recruitment of the East Bay’s top prospect.
