WOW a great game! at Encinal, SERRA DOES PREVAIL BABY.. but dammm.. encinal?? good job

  2. PERKIN Says:

Not impressed with Serra as far doing anything in the CCS Open or Encinal is that good. Shut Wilson down & their DBs are very suspect. Run defense was great. Line pounded.

Encinal, I couldn’t believe how many turnovers they had. I think it was 5-1. Brutal. The one before half was devastating. Can’t believe how easy EHS threw on Serra & MV’s D-1 guy couldn’t do anything. Penalties didn’t get fixed for Encinal they still had 4 unsportsmanlike penalties. I think they think they’re the U almost got into a team fight before halftime. They fix it they could be dangerous. Team hits.

  3. scoop Says:

D3 is loaded this year.. Easily like I BEEN SAYING, Cardinal newman,Marin,Encinal.. man, I can’t wait for playoff times.. Btw anyone to see mitty beat palo alto? or deer valley hang tough in a shoot out?? can i get some details on that?

  4. nailhouse dr. Says:

Yea we’ll take the moniker THE U. Perkin, you surely are aplately named because you must be perkin. Sure there were mistakes on our part but what you dont seem to comprehend or just can’t is it’s week 2 for us and we WILL only get better. Now Serra sucks huh. Last week i heard they were better than last year. Give props where props are due. Wilson barely got 50 yards total. D1 Colorado right? Stop the hatred and get on board because we’re here and will get with anyone. 22 against the World. See you at the top!

  5. Jimmy Durkin Says:

Lockie’s numbers against Serra were not his fault at all. He threw for over 200 and should’ve probably had 400 but there were at least a half dozen drops, a couple of which probably would’ve been 50-plus yard TDs. I would definitely not say that he “couldn’t do anything.” He played well.

  6. ManDown Says:

Encinal is the real deal. Mark my words! I was at the game last night and Encinal had that game won if it wasn’t for a few mistakes they had Serra beat. Fumbles, penalties, and the 2 picks hurt the Jets as they took it to Serra. Encinal QB Vee is very very good and there defense is rock solid. Perkin I seen a few fights during the game and some cheap shots from Encinal players. Bo Banks owned Wilson all night and he didn’t get loose all night. Good game Encinal clean your mistakes and you guys look like you can do it once again this year.

This raises the question, How good is MV? I would love to see Encinal get a game with one of those teams.

  7. Same ol' Williams Says:

I saw Encinal physically punish Serra last night. It Looked like Encinal held Wilson under 50yrds. Encinal sparkedy my interest. Blow after blow after blow. Serra caught a pass in the end zone to tie the game and eventually win in overtime. Encinal definitley did not lose focus or become tired in the second half. Penalties hurt but also was one sided the entire game.

ManDown, in my eyes Encinal would crush Monte Vista. These EBAL teams need to play Encinal if ever possible. Coach Tenario has his teams ready to play old fashioned football. Encinal top 3 in the East Bay.

  8. Bleachercoach Says:

What a game last night in Alameda. The Jets played some inspired football and Ve’ee looked great , but you need to give huge props to the Jets O-line. Ve’ee had plenty of time to throw all night give up for the guy’s upfront.

  9. junior Says:

Incredible performance by Encinal- 22 man roster? go toe to toe w/ Serra? man, that is impressive!

  10. junior Says:

Cal HS gives up 217 rushing yards to CV??? that is something to keep an eye on- BIG red flag for the Grizz’s.

  11. Dudleydawson Says:

Great game last night got to agree with mandown banks outplayed wilson turnovers killed the jets they had it but some of the penaltys were bs.

  12. KillerD Says:

My San Ramon buddy watched Livermore at Dublin last night and the last 3rd of the Logan at Foothill game.

He said Livermore is better then he thought, and he thought they were darn good before the game (that is why I picked the Cowboys to beat Dublin). He said Livermore will finish 4th in EBAL this year, behind DLS, Cal and SRV.

He also discussed Logan in detail and concluded that Logan is very small, reasonably talented (4 good players) two RB, the QB and one DE. And he thought Logan no better than 10th rated team in east bay.

  13. Pitt Grunt Says:

    @Man Down,

Most of the serious assessments of MV on this blog are accurate. They have a good offense (due solely to Lockie) but defense is soft. Lockie simply does not have the talent around him. I think them coming out in a no-huddle caused Pitt some problems but that lasted one half. But they play hard and they have some innovative play calling.

  14. brandonbeard Says:

The Jets were ballin, shud have won.

  15. Prep Fan Says:

Junior, re: #10. Yes, Cal gave up 210 yards rushing on 37 carries last night. It was 24-0 at halftime, and CV RB Sellers broke a tackle in route to a nifty 68 yard TD run to start the 2nd half. It was a nice run, but was just 1 play and certainly nothing to get concerned over as Cal’s line dominated both sides of the ball. Without that play, CV gains just 142 yards on 36 carries. Much of the yards came against Cal’s backups in the second half with the game already well in hand. CV scored a TD late in the 4th qtr when it was 45-7 and a running clock. CV could only muster 42 yards passing, and had to do something, so they ran the ball. The main problem was that each time Cal scored, they had to kick the ball back to CV and they got more chances to run. Farley was a crisp 11 of 13 for 172 yards & 3 TDs for Cal.

  16. football guy Says:

Did anyone see the game between DV and Folsom was a shootout coming down to the last minute of the game. Folsom must have thrown 50 times during the game and it looks like according to the paper DV more than held its own against them. Would have seen that one very unexpected as everyone had DV getting blown out.

  17. Prep Fan Says:

It sounds like Encinal played a heckova game last night and almost pulled it out. Serra’s coach Walsh sounded like they were lucky to get out of there with a W. I wish I had a chance to get to the Nailhouse to see that one.

The 3 NCS D3 programs Encinal, Cardinal Newman & Marin Catholic really stood up to the WCAL teams in their preseason matchups. On top of the Jets’ effort last night, CN beat a talented Valley Christian team 35-28 and MC beat St. Ignatius. Adding the EBAL’s 2-1 advantage over the WCAL teams this year shows that many NCS teams can compete with the top teams in the WCAL.

  18. BigJoe Says:

Walsh, being a DLS all-star grad knows his stuff. However, it’s amzing, Serra has not been prepared the last several years against some top notch out of league oppenents. MV was the exception. I remember when he coached the infamous Bishop Amant in SoCal and got spanked 56-00 against De La.

  19. mval observer Says:

i agree div 3 is loaded and playoffs will be very gd.
i think this year serra wins the rest of there games.
anyone see the bishop odowd game

  20. Prep Fan Says:

Serra still has to play Bellarmine, Mitty & Valley Christian in league play, so I don’t think it is a foregone conclusion that they will win the rest of their games. Those are 3 great teams, even if they each just recently lost to an NCS team. As good as Serra looked against Monte Vista, they sure looked beatable against the Jets last night.

  21. junior Says:

Last I checked, a 68 yard TD carry counts just as much as a zero or negative gain. Spin it anyway you want, but yielding 217 to CV in the 3rd game of the season is a head scratcher and makes one wonder.

  22. YoMama Says:

Serra will not beat Bellarmine this year. SI, Mitty, VC will be tough. There’s also the local St. Francis rival.

  23. PERKIN Says:

Serra will lose to the Bells for sure. DLS looks to be PAR so that must mean the Bells were very good. They beat SI, St. Francis. Lose 2 more probably VC, Mitty.

  24. Prep Fan Says:

Junior, you can make it sound like CV dominated the line of scrimmage vs. Cal if you want, but I was just explaining to you how it was that they gained 210 yards rushing (not 217). Normally when a team is down big early, they resort to passing, but Cal had completely shut down (42 yds) their passing game (if they had one). CV kept trying to run, and they actually got a couple of nice runs in the second half when many of Cal’s starters were watching from the sidelines up big. 1 nice run of 68 yards that surely counts for yardage as well as 6 points, and a lot of short runs, many of which were stuffed for little or no gain. It is not like the 400+ yards rushing MV has been giving up the past couple of weeks in losses.

  25. junior Says:

I made zero mention of CV dominating anything. The fact that CV could not pass does not change the facts, in fact it makes it more suspect: An upper tier EBAL defense should not be yielding 200+ rushing yards to CV.

BTW the long run came on the first carry of the second half- cant imagine the starters on the sidelines.

  26. Prep Fan Says:

Cal will now focus on EBAL play and the upcoming game against Foothill and consider the CV game a success. Hopefully, we can keep them under 210 yards rushing or it will be a red flag. And yes there were some (not all) starters on the sidelines at the beginning of the 2nd half. Like I said it was a nice run though and I would not take anything away from the kid or CV on that play. Their only other score came in the waning moments with the score 45-7 and a running clock though.

  27. junior Says:

Why would you equate Foothill to CV????

  28. EastBay Ray Says:

    Mval Observer:

Yes, saw the BOD game – a great 41-40 thriller that BOD won over Enochs, a Div1 school out of Modesto. With Enochs’ much bigger line mashing Odowd for over 300 yards rushing, they were able to score on long drives. They stacked the box and stuffed the run as well. Odowd was able to exploit them through the air, though, with QB Miroglio throwing for over 300 yards and 4 tds. Odowd blocked a PAT to maintain the lead, then survived a late fumble to preserve the win.
Division 3 looks stacked with Newman and Encinal at the top, and Marin Cath a notch below. A few teams like Odowd and Miramonte, though, will give those guys a scare in the playoffs. Should be fun.

  29. Prep Fan Says:

Foothill is Cal’s next game. That is what the focus is now on. CV is in the rear view mirror. No one is equating Foothill and CV. I expect Foothill to be lightyears better defensively than CV, and they will throw the ball. They held #2 Pitt to 14 points and #4 Logan to 13, so they are no CV. Coach B is good about getting the backups in early during blowouts, even in the 1st or 2nd quarter of some games.

  30. Dudleydawson Says:

Eastbay ray its looking like cardinal newman & marin catholic will run the table encinal wont lose again odowd may lose 1 league game same with miramonte so how do you see ncs board seeding these teams last year miramonte jumped encinal for the 3 seed which i thought was b.s.

  31. 617lemon Says:

Kemper no way you dont win vs the jets this week they only got 22 players you guys are the big bad school on the island nearly 2000 students i expect a victory kemper plus ive heard you say you have the superior coaching staff by the way my son will be in high school next year do you think coach curry can work with him ive seen what he’s done with his kid he must be a helluva coach!

  32. bayareaboy2 Says:

Hey 617 does all that brown nosing come with a massage ? Alameda WILL PLAY
Encinal tough but they WON’T WIN.. 22 players ? Hello ! 2009 23 players NCS finals,2010 22 players same result….ask Serra if 22 players played them like 45. This early in the season 22 players won’t hurt them a bit and Encinal only needs to field 11.That will be 11 too many for Alameda. Also, about your superior coaching staff comment, HA ! What do you base Superior coaching on ? Probably hopes, dreams and prayers. ANYWAY, Your probably just excited about the “Big Game” this week between AHS and EHS and just saying things you don’t really mean and have not really thought about to carefully before saying them right ?

  33. EastBay Ray Says:

Way down the road, Dudley, but I see Newman 1, Encinal 2, and Marin Catholic 3, just on strength of schedule wins (and you are right – I think all three will win out the rest of their games (Newman will at least play Palma close)). Miramonte will probably be next with the best North Bay teams mixed in. BOD will obviously need to win their league and hope their tough preseason schedule influences the NCS board. If not, they get a first rounder against one of the big three….

  34. Malik USMC Says:

    Bayareaboy,

    ever hear of sarcasm?

lemon and reggie hammond are just Alameda haters with an inferiority complex.

  35. PERKIN Says:

If MC wins out & Encinal wins out EHS won’t get a hirer seed then MC. Encinal is looking at a 3 at best but who knows they got a 4 last year, Miramonte pasted them up.

  36. Dudleydawson Says:

Eastbay ray your right way down the road i would agree with your seeds but the way ncs favors teams over the hill & catholic schools theyll make marin 2 who knows what theyll do if miramonte runs the table even though the play a soft non league as we saw last year.

  37. teehee Says:

    bayareaboy2… 617 is being sarcastic.

  38. Dudleydawson Says:

From what i’ve read & heard marin catholic didnt look all that great against berkeley close for 3qtrs without rudolpho james playing there 3-0 but havent looked dominent

  39. bayareaboy2 Says:

OHHHH, sarcasm is good..sorry bout that 617.Your credit rating has been restablished (humor).

  40. A Team Football Says:

I hope yall jet fans and players ready for friday. serra just put it on yall and now its time for payback! HORNETS!

  41. 617lemon Says:

a team football serra put it on the jets ok well what do you call what northgate did? You better get off the blogs before your masta kemper whips you.

  42. Reggie Hammond Says:

Horents can’t honestly be talking about how bad a team has lost

  43. football nut Says:

Alhambra YV game. Who was the quaterback for Alhambra? They had a sophmore taking over for a senior but I think he got hurt 30 or 50 times in the last game. every time he got hit he was limping or geting up slow. They dont make em too tough these days. Poor kid gets trown in to the fire, needs to play down and not rush things. the new guy did ok, small but tough as nails. Story at alhambra they find someone and ride them untill they figure out oooppps!Better luck next year.

  44. CSD Says:

CSD played a great game against MSJ. Anyone catch that game? Lots of great plays on all 3 aspects of the game.

  45. Steve R. Waterhouse Says:

    CSD,

I covered that game and came away very impressed. I covered the 2002 team that lost to Tomales in the NCS Class B Championship game. That team won a school record nine games.

When I talked to coach Bella after the game, he signed that while he didn’t want to make comparisons between that team and this team, there were similarities in the attitude (a winning attitude).

This team is confident. They came out and punched MSJ in the mouth. They were faster at nearly ever position.

A lot of credit has to go to Bella. He’s a great coach and a great motivator. He does a good job of scouting and his gameplans over the years have been spot-on.

  46. pirate football Says:

csd has had some pretty decent teams over the years, some good size speed and skill, the head coach works really hard, not sure of his asst coaches but have seen the head coach at recent coach’s clinics in concord, think u might need some better staff maybe, they have lost to some teams they shouldnt have. any head coach knows they need a good staff

  47. Jimmy Durkin Says:

Remember that there are some limitations to who you can hire as a coach or assistant at CSD. Basically, if you don’t know sign language, you can’t coach there because you won’t be able to communicate with the players. So I don’t know that I’d start suggesting that CSD look for some better coach staff members. They seem to be doing pretty good right now.

  48. MVAL Coach Says:

Yeah Pirate football is one ignorant SOB for that last comment. Typical of the uneducated.

  49. pirate football Says:

hey jimmy, dont know if he has a good staff or even enough guys to help, not trying to speak bad on any hard working coaches, some of those loses could b due to a young coach going through the learning process that all coaches go through, but i like what he is doing and hope he sticks with it

mval coach u really sound so intelligent, hope ur really not a coach, if so i feel 4 the kids u coach. ur such a role model

  50. CSD Says:

    Pirate-
I checked with my buddies and coaching staff has a total of 55 years of coaching experience. The coaching staff has been together for their 4th consecutive year. The program has gone through a turnaround from 2-8 to 6-5 and a playoff berth within last 3 years. Now, CSD is 3-0 and looking to their game against West Campus.

  51. pirate football Says:

oh ok so they have got a few new pieces to the staff, thats great, looks like they are heading to the playoffs again, they got a tough league with berean, valley christian and salesian. 2nd year n a row in the playoffs u never know what can happen in d5.
