We all know of the top teams in the area. We know Bishop O’Dowd will be a force in the Hayward Area Athletic League, we know Foothill will be in the running in the East Bay Athletic League
We know of the teams that are constantly talked about. But who are some teams that can jump up in challenge? Here are some thoughts…
Berkeley- Started off the year rough, losing three in a row, but has won seven straight since then. Are the ‘Jackets the favorite in the ACCAL?
Head-Royce- A win over aforementioned Berkeley, and are perfect in BCL play. Could be a team that slides into the rankings.
Salesian- Albany and St. Joseph are representing the BSAL well in the rankings, but Salesian is a sleeper. A team that has gone deep in the playoffs in recent history, and has won seven of its last eight matches.
Heritage- Slipped out of the rankings this week, but don’t expect that to last for long. The Patriots are very good, should be getting Chelsea Hancock back shortly, and have played a tough schedule.
Dougherty Valley- An improving program that has looked solid so far.
Las Lomas- A team that started 0-6 is now 6-8, under the guidance of a good coach in Jim Changaris. A win over Monte Vista raises some eyebrows.
Clayton Valley- Quietly, this team is 6-3.
Granada- Don’t sleep on the Matadors.
Castro Valley- A win over Livermore tells me the ability is there.
Just slight changes to the rankings as teams continue to play a bunch of out of area opponents. Albany jumps Miramonte due to a win over Mercy-San Francisco, which beat the Matadors. Irvington jumps a couple of spots, staying unbeaten, while St. Joseph Notre Dame debuts in the rankings.
I couldn’t move Bishop O’Dowd down for a loss to Sacred Heart Cathedral, though moving up undefeated Cal was tempting.
It’s also weird not to see a BVAL team in the rankings, but I think we’ll see one or two very soon.
1. San Ramon Valley (11-3)
2. Bishop O’Dowd (7-5)
3. California (4-0)
4. Campolindo (4-3)
5. Foothill (7-2)
6. Albany (11-3)
7. Miramonte (6-2)
8. Amador Valley (8-7)
9. Northgate (6-3)
10. Irvington (5-0)
11. Granada (3-1)
12. Monte Vista (5-3)
13. Berean Christian (7-3)
14. Dougherty Valley (7-3)
15. St. Joseph Notre Dame (14-2)
