All you doubters hating on Logan. Logan will win NCS this year. They are the real deal. I feel bad for Kennedy, their coaches talk so much smack but they will probably go 0-10 like Newarks 2006 team that went 0-10. Washington isn’t any good either. MVAL is too weak for Logan. We need a letter league to help prepare us for the big games.
September 26th, 2011 at 5:33 pm
Pittsburgh doesn’t deserve to be 4th rank. They lost to a weak SL team that Logan beat easily.
September 26th, 2011 at 6:15 pm
Hmmmm, B High defeats a good Pitt team and does not get any votes this week?? Sup with that Ben, Jimmy??
September 26th, 2011 at 7:39 pm
DV would run all over MV- raise the wolves
September 26th, 2011 at 7:39 pm
Why should B-High get any votes when they still have 3 losses and the one win they have vs Pitt was not a convincing one—41-40 and it came from a lot of trickery at the end. In 1st OT, the extra pt that Pitt could’ve won over B-High got stifled when the B-High coach, in his haste to call timeout to ice the Pitt kicker, fell flat on the grass when everybody was already in position. Twas a late timeout call just to ice the Pitt kicker. The 2nd OT 2pt conversion by Rudolpho James was a misdirection play with QB, when they banged their heads appearing to do a handout but James ran it through the outside right. They took the risk with the 2pt conversion knowing that if it didn’t work, it doesn’t matter coz they had a good game having caught up with the Pirates. If it worked and it did, it was a bonus to Berkeley. But, one thing was clear, it was Rudolpho James that made the difference; without him B-high will be nowhere. One man can’t always do the trick; you’ll need a team to win it so let’s just hope he’s always healthy throughout the season and maybe B-high can win their league.
September 26th, 2011 at 7:42 pm
I agree with this… Pitt is a good team dont get me wrong. To be fair any team that losses should go down a couple of spots. Which they did.. However a win against granite bay should put them back on top. if cal losses for example.
September 26th, 2011 at 8:09 pm
How’s cal looking on the good old fashion eye test? They have played kind of a weak preseason so I didn’t really have time to check them out
September 26th, 2011 at 8:18 pm
EBALFAN- I think they just moved up because pit lost. and they won
September 26th, 2011 at 8:47 pm
Pitt should not be 4 and Logan is not going to win NCS. Come on MVAL stud, you can’t be serious?? Logan is a good football team but there is no way they are going to win NCS. I know what you are thinking, they will be 10-0 and most likely a top 3 seed, and De La Salle pooped in their pants Friday night…But seriously, they aren’t going to beat de la, and I’ll go so far as to say that in my opinion, they don’t even make the final. Oh, and if Logan was in a different league, on the other side of the hill, they struggle to make the playoffs year in and year out. Put down the kool-aid and step away from the glass.
September 26th, 2011 at 8:58 pm
How does SRV get ranked ahead of DV after DV almost handled Folsom and Folsom destroyed SRV. and Ben and Jimmy why doesnt DV get the attention they deserve after they played like they did and also destroys CP not even a mention of their RB Smith who has like almost 1000 yards in four games I think its like 890 and 15 touchdowns in three games. Ben I know your a Brentwood guy but come on No respect for the kids in Black. The preseason DV has had is tougher than Freedoms it will be a three team race and if DV continues like they are it might be a two team race.
September 26th, 2011 at 10:09 pm
Football Guy- lets not get to carried away. Folsom isnt as good as they were last year, your hyping them up just because they went the CIF division 2 finals, and you are talking like its the same team from last year. We all know they weren’t going to be as good as last year. I saw it coming. Deer Valley has the strongest schedule, however it doesnt over power Freedoms or Pittsburgs.
Panther 4- where would you rank pitt then? Logan will make it close to the finals.
September 26th, 2011 at 11:27 pm
@kriart
i do agree that b high doesnt get any votes, yet maybe if they keep winning they can somehow climb back n2 the rankings but what was so trickery bout the win n ot, what coach would at least think of calling a time out to ice the kicker in a must miss situation duh dont b mad cuz it workednot sure if i remember sisms falling but he did show some of his old playing days speed while running down the sideline trying to get the ref attention to get a time out now that was funny and how is a running back running n2 the qb misdirection, usually that spells disaster, and a smart rb wouldve bounced it outside when they going against an overagressive and at time undiscipline team, kinda smart
September 26th, 2011 at 11:28 pm
BVAL expert what are you smoking Folsom did what to SRV or is it that they arent that good yet they smoked SRV. Come on let give credit where credit is due. You saw it coming what did you see coming if you did you would have said something about it i have read your post over the years and when you think your right you shout it. You really need to be honest you like everyone else didnt give DV a chance against Folsom especially after they dismantled SRV and there is from the game I saw very few teams that can beat Folsom from the Bay. So let continue they shut out Washington which almost won last week agaisnt a EBAL team and then dismantle CP by what oh yea only 26 points. I’m not hyping anything just facts. Heritage was ranked above themand look back there was more in the times about Heritage beating who oh yea Independence than DV almost beating a defending state champ so can we use your analogy about Folsom with DLS they arent as good as last year. The only team to beat fFolsom this year was Grant which beat them last year then lost to them in the playoffs. Dont be a hater have you seen DV’s line and their QB is only a sophmore who is getting better every game and I know you have a hardon for Woods and Galli but have you seen DV play this year maybe you did at that Liberty scrimmage well thats not the same DV team that is playing now. There is truth to what I’m saying look at Smith and his running thats Hype he’s like the 7or 8 rusher in the state and about 12-14 in scoring thats hype no its fact wake up and smell the rose DV is good this year and is improving every week. The offense is opening up and they have a reciever that is coming around as well. so its not hype they played tough teams and did they beat Freedom last year oh yea they did with a team that was less than this year. its a three team race but DV is improving every week maybe a test is to see how much Freedom beats CP by in my mind it’s Pitt and DV and freedom with Pitt having the edge but I wouldnt bet against DV Will. LOL

September 27th, 2011 at 12:19 am
mval stud your great! you win a few preseason games and now logan is going to win ncs. you guys havent won a playoff game in what 4 years. and this is the first time in 4 years you have beat an ebal or bval team at any time, so you might want calm down a little. your right the mval is below you and your 4300 enrollment you could pick the next two biggest schools in the mval and they are still smaller than you. if you give washington all the players from any newark, american, irvington, or kennedy they beat you every year with their smaller combined enrollment.
you cant blame the mval for you not being ready for playoffs it gets washington ready for playoffs and even irvington a few years ago when they made two deep runs. dont get me wrong i think logan is very good this year i hope they win ncs im a homer i want my local teams to win. but dont come on here and crap on the rest of the mval it looks bad for you
September 27th, 2011 at 2:26 am
No, Im completely sober. Never said DV was bad or the team DV was all hype. But do you really think a team returns all their players? Try beating them last years team, Every team goes through changes. I bet you last year they were way more powerful. Your using their identity from last year and saying they were like the team from last year. The only consistent team out here his De La Salle. Every team goes through their ups and downs. Folsom didn’t go completely down but you can tell they are not up to par compared to last year, as you fail to recognize that.
I’ve seen San Ramon and I believe they don’t use Kline as efficiently as they should be. With a Quarterback that they have they should be in spread shotgun every play. Having 4 or 5 WR’s every play passing the ball like Concord every play. Instead they just throw a whole bunch of tight ends only coming out with 2 WR’s when they have a 3-4 star Quarterback LOL talk about using your all star efficiently. Thats why they had no problem with San Ramon. San Ramon was way to balanced going into the game. They should of passed the ball alot more, then the game would of had a different outcome.
I honestly think pitt is not going to win it. and it will be either DV or Freedom that will win it. You cant really compare How freedom does against CP because last year Freedom Killed CP and DV only beat them only by 14 points. Then when Freedom played DV they lost to DV. If you were to compare how both teams did against CP then without a biased mind you would predict Freedom to beat DV. However it didnt pan out that way. So you cant compare who plays who, because that example right their tells you why you cant do that. Its not always realibe
September 27th, 2011 at 7:11 am
BVAL expert, I would put Pitt at 6 behind Encinal and Freedom.
September 27th, 2011 at 7:20 am
since washington is being thrown in the mix as the common opponent amongst many of these teams ill throw my two cents in.
First off, Cal, AV, DV, and SRV are all very good football teams. All very well coached and have very different strengths. So matching a team like DV to SRV is very tough because they are polar opposites in the way they play. I agree BVAL expert you cant always use common opponent play, but unfortunately the only thing you can go off of.
I still would put Cal at the top. They are balanced well coached and very physical. Next is close between DV and SRV. but i think SRV having the blue chip qb gets the nod. final scores arent always telling as i know the encinal fans will say based on last years playoff championship to CN as it got out of hand in the 4th quarter. so unless you were there you dont know how the score got to be the way it was. just as if you look at the 31-20 scorre of srv over washington most would think washington scored on a couple late TD’s to make it look respectable when it was the exact opposite.
AV is kind of the wildcard. they have a great QB that nobody is talking about. they took it to us pretty good (more than the other 3 to be honest) and are very well coached. saying that athletically i think they will have a tough time against the other 3 teams. but i wouldn’t be shocked to see them beat SRV or play them tight, bc physically they might be able to win the LOS against them which could keep them in the game.
but all 4 very good teams, but you never know how the EBAL shapes out…matchups will make a big difference, injuries, momentum, coaching adjustments and ultimately the players making plays.
good luck to all as we kick off the regular season for most.
September 27th, 2011 at 8:14 am
While not reliable it is a measuring point and regardless of thier identity they are a extremely good football team who has beaten everyone they have played in section and out of section except for Grant however DV is good much better than what is bein said about them and then. I saw the SRV game as well and it wasnt that they didnt have a good offense it was that they couldnt stop them enough to have their offense keep up with them but the BIG point is Folsoms defense stopped SRV which it couldnt do against DV. So if you say that Folsom is not as good as last year I would tend to disagree they are as Good with different players. Also using CP as a barometer is a valid measurement if you factor in the team variables. The freedom CP score last year was a shootout if I remember correctly while the DV one was a defensive struggle your however entititiled to you opinion as I am mine but i am sure the one thing we can agree on is that DV isnt getting the respect it deserves after the scedule they have played and for them VAcaville will be a big test as they have beat BOTH Granite Bay and VC.

Freedom should be ahead of Logan and Pitt.
Campolindo and Livermore should be above Granada, Monte Vista and Salesian.
Monte Vista is not a Top 15 team, maybe not top 20
September 27th, 2011 at 8:48 am
1. De La Salle- Tough loss to STA last week
2. California- Look good so far
3. James Logan- Impressive win against Heritage
4. Encinal- Very good team this year
5. San Ramon Valley- Some qustions will be answered in league play.
6. Pittsburg- How do you lose to Berkeley?
7. Freedom- Very consistant so far
8. Las Lomas- Look good. Continder?
9. Miramonte- They will have a tough time in league
10. Deer Valley- Lets see what they do against Pitt
11. Monte Vista- Self destructing this year.
12. Granada- ?
13. Salesian- Need to prove themselfs against better teams.
14. Campolindo- Been a plesant surprise this year
September 27th, 2011 at 11:28 am
MVAL Stud please refrain from bad-mouthing other teams and if you are Logan player please get off the blog. You know the rules. For the rest of you, MVAL stud does not reflect that values taught by the Logan coaching staff and is not representative of the type of person a Logan football player should be.
FYI – Logan lost their defensive captain and ILB to injury early in 2nd quarter of game with Heritage after a scary hit. He is okay now from what I hear. The score was 21-0 at the time. They struggled a bit defensively after that. Heritage offense is quite good, but if you saw the game, it was total physical domination by the Colts lines, and that Logan speed is something to behold. In my book, all teams they have beaten will be in contention in their respective leagues so #3 is right on.
Logan Pride!

ManDown, let’s look at some numbers (courtesy of Calpreps):
4-0 Teams:
Miramonte:
-25.6 rating.
-Average opponent rating is 5
-Best win so far vs. Analy (21 rating)
Campolindo:
-20.7 rating
-Average opponent rating is -2
-Best win so far vs. El Cerrito (4.5 rating)
Las Lomas:
-20.3 rating
-Average opponent rating is 3
-Best win so far vs. College Park (11.5 rating)
3-1 Teams:
Dublin:
-11.7 rating
-Average opponent rating is 1.5
-Best win so far vs. Benicia (8 rating)
Dougherty Valley:
-9.2 rating
-Average opponent rating is -4
-Best win so far vs. Riordan (1 rating)
2-2 Teams:
Alhambra:
-10.4 rating
-Average opponent rating is 11.5 (statistically thrown off by Cardinal Newman, possessing a 49 rating)
-Best win so far vs. El Molino (-4.2 rating)
Acalanes:
-5.3 rating
-Average opponent rating is 2
-Best win so far vs. Skyline (-3 rating)
Conclusion:
-Miramonte is tied with Las Lomas and Campolindo for best records – undefeated at 4-0.
-Miramonte has highest rating among DFAL teams.
-Miramonte has 2nd highest opponent rating avg. (only behind 2-2 Alhambra with its Cardinal Newman outlier).
-Miramonte’s best win is vs. a team with a higher rating than any team Mira will face in DFAL play.
So, why will Miramonte have such a tough time in league again? Yes, the level of competition is going to jump, but it will for every team. I’m not saying it will be a walk in the park, or that an undefeated league record is in the bag, but there’s also no reason at this point, it seems to me, to assume Miramonte won’t repeat as league champion…
September 27th, 2011 at 11:59 am
Mandown- i agree with your rankings.. I think that 8 through 14 will get scrambled around within the next few weeks.
September 27th, 2011 at 12:13 pm
heritage beat granada didnt they?
September 27th, 2011 at 12:16 pm
Miramonte has played a pretty weak non-league & really struggled to win games. I think they lose 2 maybe even 3 games in league. Losing to Campo, LL, possibly Dublin/Acalanes(they will struggle with the DoubleWing). Their D is not very good. One man show.
September 27th, 2011 at 12:46 pm
Heritage did beat Granada by a point, yes. But that is not the only game they played or they would be ranked ahead of them. Granada has won both of their games since then and Heritage has lost 2 of 3, including a 38-3 loss to D2 Windsor. It is still very early in the season, and as long as Heritage takes care of business this week against Concord and in BVAL play, they will get ranked accordingly.
September 27th, 2011 at 12:57 pm
Heritage should be ranked ahaed of Granada if you look at the teams they played so far. Granada’s 2 wins came from teams ranked near 700 in the State.
September 27th, 2011 at 1:20 pm
Like I said it is still very early. It is not like Heritage’s 14-8 in over Independence HS was an impressive win either. Take care of buisness vs. Concord and in league play and the rankings will take care of themselves. We’ll see how Granada does against MV this week and if they’ll deserve to remain in the rankings or possibly move up.
September 27th, 2011 at 1:43 pm
heritage won against independence 52-20. maxpreps has the wrong score on their site. also, heritage threw 2 interceptions, and a fumble in the logan game. they were actually in it for a bit. the game was actually good. the score does not justify the game. heritage was moving the ball before the fumble. they would have probably scored if not for the late fumble. score would have been 42-35. heritage found a way to move the ball against the tough logan defense through their rb. but a loss is a loss.
September 27th, 2011 at 1:44 pm
heritage vs independence cal hi sports.

September 27th, 2011 at 1:49 pm
MiraFaithful, Honestly I don’t think Miramonte is very good this year. They will struggle against Las Lomas, Campo, Dublin and Acalanes this year. Not saying they will lose all these games but I don’t think they will win them all either. They could very well lose 2 or 3 of those games easily, I don’t care about your Cal Preps rankings crap. It means nothing! They have many teams on there over ranked and under ranked so you can get lost with that info buddy.
September 27th, 2011 at 1:56 pm
Who are the top 5 QBs in the Bay Area so far this season? My Picks,
1. Houston-DLS
2. Kline-SRV
3. Lockie-MV
4. Vee-Encinal
t5. Anderson-Miramonte
t5. Watson-Pitt
September 27th, 2011 at 2:19 pm
@ManDown, how about Alameda High’s Manibusan? He passed for 380 and 5 TD’s against your mighty 4th ranked Encinal while doubling as a full time linebacker.
September 27th, 2011 at 2:32 pm
Duderino, It sounds like he had a great game and Enicnal still won the game . I wouldn’t look too much into stats especially in a rivalry game. For him to have a game like that Alameda needs to figure out a way to win. No way a QB can play like that and still lose in my book. What were the final stats for both teams?
September 27th, 2011 at 2:38 pm
Good point, Encinal is a team that knows how to win, Alameda hasn’t figured it out yet. Encinal blocked two Alameda punts and forced a number of turnovers. But the QB himself did everything in his power, just thought he deserved mention in the QB discussion.
September 27th, 2011 at 2:55 pm
Mandown:
You must not have seen the DLS game this weekend. Houston is a solid talent, big arm, etc., but based on this year, I would rate not rate him number one. Likewise, while Ve’e is a great football player, I wouldn’t put him as high as you do among the best quarterbacks. I see them something like this:
1. Lockie-MV
2. Kline-SRV
3. Houston -DLS
4. Anderson-Miramonte
5. Watson-Pitt
6. McHugh- Bel
7. Miroglio-BOD
8. Vee-Encinal
September 27th, 2011 at 3:16 pm
As far as quarterbacks go, I would add Stephens from Campo and Achziger from Dublin into the discussion. I am not saying they are better than those that have been mentioned above but both are very solid. Achziger also is a good runner as well.
September 27th, 2011 at 3:27 pm
Pawn Star, I forgot about Stephans from Campo.
EastBay Ray, How can you say Houston is not the best QB in the area? The guy played against the second best team in the nation and didnt play that poorly. But I do like Lockie but the edge goes to Kline because his team is winning.
1. Houston-DLS, Winner and rocket for a arm
2. Kline-SRV, Throws a beautiful ball and will get better. Has sneaky wheels
3. Lockie-MV, I like his mobility and accuracy. He’s a “Player”
4. Vee-Encinal, Big, Strong, Tough QB who has a rocket are and some mobility. Doubles at LB
t5. Anderson-Miramonte, Tall and fast. Gamer and does it all for the Mats.
t5. Stephans-Campo, May have the best looking ball out of the QBs.
6. Watson-Pitt, Fast and good arm. Gets lost in games sometimes.
September 27th, 2011 at 4:25 pm
#32….Mandown…..This coming Friday nights game of Miramonte/Acalanes…should tell the tale…for the first time the Mat’s will face a D and O…I thik that Acalanes will be able to stop Miramonte..
September 27th, 2011 at 4:59 pm
Dante Mayes from freedom is receiving Pac-12 D1 interests. He should also be on your guys list.
Ive never seen Stephens does he have size?
September 27th, 2011 at 5:34 pm
Salesian should be ranked at least ahead of Miramonte and would have no trouble beating that team. The Pride is solid top to bottom and has a higher schedule rating so far according to Calpreps. The common opponent is Kennedy-Richmond who scored three TD’s against Miramonte but none against Salesian despite the second string playing the entire second half. The Cal bound receiver for Kennedy made zero catches.
Mandown says it has to prove itself against stronger comp but after Friday’s showdown with Mack that’s it, the BFL kicks in and we know how that will go (though it does look stronger overall so far this year).
September 27th, 2011 at 6:41 pm
The only guy that comes close to Klein in terms of natural throwing is Freedom quarterback, Dante Mayes.
He will have several offers
September 27th, 2011 at 6:51 pm
From Max Preps- doesn’t mean a whole lot in pre-season. League will modify this list for sure. Review at week 7 would be more interesting to the thread.
In order of BANG rankings after week 3:
School/QB/comps/atts/yds TDs INts (rating)
DeLaSalle/Houston 15-39-244 1 TD 4 int (29)
California/Farley 22-28-334 9 TD 1 int (142)
Logan/Prothro no stats entered
Pittsburg/Watson 28-54-400 4 TD 1 int (93)
Encinal/Ve’e 21-38-411 5 TD 1 int (111)
SR Valley/Kline 38-58-529 4 TD 1 int (103)
Freedom/Mayes 53-107-691 10 TD 7 int (74)
Las Lomas/Miller no stats entered
Miramonte/Anderson no stats entered
Monte Vista/Lockie 61-105-802 8 TD 1 int (106)
September 27th, 2011 at 7:26 pm
Pride Baller, If you are better than Miramonte then why doesn’t your coach schedule those guys? Why waste your time playing JFK-Rich, Mack, and Swett? We all know playing those teams don’t prove nothing. Why not petition up a division for playoffs? Prove your worth Salesian and you will reap the benefits.
September 27th, 2011 at 7:27 pm
We aint about to lose to Berkeley this week
September 27th, 2011 at 7:28 pm
Top guys at qb are lockie houston stephens mayes ve’e goff & the guy from cardinal newman. I like ve’e not only does he go both ways but the guy wins when it matters most … playoff time!
September 27th, 2011 at 7:40 pm
Does anyone know if Vee, Watson, and Anderson are getting any D1 looks? Please share if you know.
September 27th, 2011 at 7:43 pm
KillerD,
Wanted to get your take and/ or breakdown on two matchups this weekend in the north bay.
First, you’ve got the Loggerheads playing Saturday afternoon at Novato. (I think this might be a first-ever meeting between the two teams)
Second, a big early-conference SCL matchup is Windsor at Analy. Undoubtedly, both teams have been lighting it up offensively, though perhaps Analy’s preseason schedule might be a little lighter, with exception of narrow loss to Miramonte in the season opener.
what do you think?
September 27th, 2011 at 8:25 pm
Watson has an offer from Northern Arizona (according to Max Preps) but the talk in the stands is trending towards a number of serious Pac-10 and Mountain West looks. He is not going to put up monster numbers because Pitt is a running team. But, with Malik, you get the talent along with a high character kid who is smart.
September 27th, 2011 at 8:40 pm
“A Team Football” is a troll with no association to Alameda High football. Last year he went by “Hornet Fan” and turned out to be 617lemon.
September 27th, 2011 at 8:40 pm
Well A-Team, if I could schedule better games for Salesian I would. If I could petition up, I would. However, I’m just a parent, I’m not the coach, and he does not take input from parents. My understanding is that it is on the table, I hope it happens but am not holding my breath. If you look at the NCS D-IV rankings on Maxpreps it obvious there is no point for Salesian to play in that bracket, no one can compete. If ever Nightengale is to have them play up this is the year.
Nevertheless, you can’t fault the scheduling of Mack, and when two traditional rivals bailed out he did get upgrade games for both (Inderkum in place of SPSV and Kennedy in place of St. Mary’s). Obviously it was a mistake to book the home and away package with Swett the past two seasons.
September 27th, 2011 at 9:06 pm
The QB from Dublin Ed Aleziber (if thats how you say it) is REALLY good just thought he should get a say at least he Is fast and has a BEAUTIFUL arm.
September 27th, 2011 at 9:32 pm
DV made CP look silly wow.

Yeah, I’ll agree with scoop and a few others here, Dublin’s QB really impressed me. Good arm and has wheels which seemed to be the main source of yards in the running game (at least most consistent).

my top 3 qb’s are kline, watson and anderson just my oppinion i have seen all 3 a few times and like what i have seen from them, some of the others i havent seen at all but 1 that i have is huston, im not so sold on him, i think he is more a product of the system than natural qb but i could b wrong, i think he choose the right school in wisconsin perfect fit for him they run heavy and play action later he will do very well there, people dont get mad at me just my oppinion, he is good, finished on the platform behind kline on the elite 11 camp
@pitt grunt
yeah watson is my number 2, your right a very high charactor kid, hear he has like a 3.2 or higher, i have spoke with him a few times, and he is a great kid, never complain that he wants to throw more just doin what his coach ask of him, he told me what school he wants to go to and hope it works out for him, do u know what schools are interested in the polynesian kid that plays rb and lb, hear he has like a 3.5
September 27th, 2011 at 10:18 pm
i think salesian is a good program, very well coached, head coach may b an arrogant guy but he can coach his butt off he has a good staff, very good o/d line coaches
September 28th, 2011 at 7:31 am
The Watson kid from Pitt is very good, huge arm with lots of upside. I think the Freedom kid is slightly smoother at this point, while Watson has such a big arm he needs to learn how to control it.
I will ask around and talk to my buddy about the Dublin qb, but he did say earlier this year the kid could play.
September 28th, 2011 at 7:52 am
Salesian needs to petition up. The only issue is that if they do, they enter the most competitive division in the section. They are unproven against good D3 teams like BOD, Newman, Encinal, Marin Catholic, Eureka, etc. I don’t think they’d make it very far. They should schedule BOD or Miramonte or Campolindo next year to see where they stand if they were to enter the D3 race.
September 28th, 2011 at 7:53 am
Mandown, how can you say that Houston didn’t play that bad Friday night. I understand that they were playing one of the toughest schools in the country but the rest of the team didn’t seem to be bothered by that. No offense to Houston, because I know he is a good player, but he is the reason that they lost that game. 3 turnovers and a 5 yard punt…No way that right now he can be considered the top qb in the area. He’s completed less than 50% of his passes and has turned the ball over exponentially more than he has thrown TD’s. I think that if you take him off of that team and put him on an average team for the past three years he is a tall kid with a good arm that may play somewhere after high school but no guarantees. We’ll see what happens throughout the year though. I just alway have to keep in mind that he plays for De La Salle so of course he will be considered a “winner” because they rarely lose. Although if we changed our thinking to what is often said about DLS football players, he is just an “average” athlete/qb with really good coaching:)

KillerD’s picks for this week:
Eureka at Novato – the Loggerheads will destroy a poor Novato team. The once proud Hornets have been free falling for two years, they have no parachute and are headed directly into some nasty ice cold crevasses in which this year’s squad will disappear into the bowels of history. Good kids, most assuredly but they are a poor football team that will win a few games in a very overrated league this year, except for Marin Catholic. Eureka battled a big Shasta High, a Shasta team that would be 60 on Novato but barely beat Eureka.
Eureka 30 vs. Novato 10
Windsor at Analy – Windsor will be 10-0 after the regular season is over, and their pit stop in the Tiger Den in Analy will get them marked up a bit. Analy barely lost to Miramonte, but the Mats are good, not great. Windsor is a very, very good team. Analy will keep this game close and Analy will make the playoffs. Both teams have two blowout wins this year but for some reason Windsor is on the uptick. This is going to be a great game.
Windsor 23 vs. Analy 22
Valley Christian at Sequoia – The tiny private school from Dublin will trek across the San Mateo bridge to battle another unbeaten team. Coach Parrella has played anybody, will play anybody and yet this team gets about as much respect at Rodney Dangerfield (God Bless his Funny Soul). Even though VC beat Dougherty Valley earlier this year, this game is by FAR their toughest test. For those east bay football fans unfamiliar with high school football on the SF peninsula, when those teams (public schools) are very good, it is a scary sight to behold. Sequoia is a very good team, with some speed and thick-calfed kids able to play a full game without their helmets because they are so darn tough.
Sequoia 24 vs. Valley Christian 21
Kennedy-Richmond at Moreau – Oh what a difference a head coach makes – sometimes, and this is one of those times. JKF was poised to win 7 or 8 games this year but then their head coach was thrown out the door and told to “please don’t come back.” Rumor was he had been accruing talent from throughout the area and doing a fantastic job of recruiting, problem was, this is high school football and not College, but again that was only rumor! Moreau is a better team and can throw the ball a tad better than the Eagles. Kennedy has superior athletes to every team in the league, except Encinal, and even then it’s close. This will be an entertaining game to watch from start to finish. If it’s a one-score game and Moreau has the ball with a chance to win, they will. But it won’t be.
Kennedy 32 vs. Moreau 23
Dougherty Valley at Campolindo – the Cougars are this year’s surprise team and that’s exactly how coach Macey likes it. His team battles coach Spain’s DV team, its only blemish that bedeviling hiccup vs. VC of Dublin. Campo has 4 good wins, DV has one over Northgate, a down team.
Campolindo 33 vs. DV 21
DLS at Livermore – THIS is the game that KillerD and his posse will attend after finding a local western “watering hole.” Our quintet of longtime high school fans will be entrenched in the bleachers and rooting for Dem Cowboys! A closer look reveals some cracks in the Spartan façade: they got manhandled in Florida, and the St Mary’s team they beat has two losses already, albeit one to DLS and Granite Bay. Spartan qb Houston was exposed and DLS has some injuries. Livermore runs the Veer and DLS knows that all inside out. The Cowboys only impressive win is against Dublin. But in reality can Livermore WIN THE GAME?
There are two ways to beat a Top Flight DLS team (and this year’s DLS team is NOT one of their best ever). One: dominate them with a killer running game using scheme and superior athletes, and Two: Throw, throw, throw and then throw some more.
I have been told that the DLS coaching staff reads this Prep Corner blog site religiously for info, keys and clues, maybe or maybe not…
Question of the week: Can coach Haubner get the Cowboy’s in a position to win the game at the 4th quarter begins? Because IF Livermore is in the game at that point, then they will have a shot a victory.
Haubner’s three keys to success:
1. Give the BEST running back in the bay area (DD) at least 27 carries and 3 receptions (30 touches minimum). If DD averages at least 8 yards per touch, then Livermore wins
2. Blitz Spartan QB Houston like crazy and play soft man or zone behind it mostly
3. Win the turnover battle
Prediction:
Livermore 30 vs. DLS 29
San Leandro at Tennyson – The Lancers are 3-0 for the first time since Reagan was President. Good for them and they should be proud. But San Leandro is much better than any team Tennyson has played. This will be a good battle but the Pirates will claim the booty.
San Leandro 24 vs. Tennyson 21
Ferndale at Hoopa – This is a big game, no doubt about it. Ferndale has played at tough slate and Hoopa is good too. Ferndale’s only loss is to a very good Del Norte (4-0). On paper Ferndale should never have been in that game, but fortunately games are tallied in person on the field. Hoopa will hoot, holler, howl and harass the Ferndale offense all night long, but in the end it will be Ferndale once again singing on the bus ride back home.
Ferndale 20 vs. Hoopa 18
September 28th, 2011 at 8:37 am
Panther4, He didnt have his best game but if you ask me DLS didnt even score on the ground and arent they a running team? Last time I checked QBs arent meant to shine in DLS offense so you can’t say they lost because of him. How wasnt the rest of the team effected if they didnt score on the ground? If Houston isnt having his best game then the rest of the team needs to pick him up and help that guy. You put Houston at SRV, MV, or Concord he would still be the number one QB in the Bay Area IMO.
If DLS wants to become unstoppable and beat STA then the need to get a really good athlete at QB. I don’t understand why that hasent happened yet. Who was the most athletic QB to start for DLS? Do they recruit those type of players?
September 28th, 2011 at 8:54 am
#60…Killer D…..The DLS/Livermore prediction sounds good and hope you are right…BUT DLS will win 35-14…This is Livermore’s year to shine and maybe they will pull it off..You guys have fun at the water hole and the game….
September 28th, 2011 at 9:14 am
Las Lomas vs Alhambra- The league is always exciting with all the upsets and hate between the schools. Alhambra is down this year and Las Lomas looks like they are trying to do some things this year.
Las Lomas wins 35-17
Acalanes vs Miramonte- Miramonte will struggle against The Dons double ing attack. If Acalanes can contain The Mats QB then they will win. If not then Miramonte wins easy
Alalanes wins 21-14
Concord vs Heritage- This will be a much better game than what people expect. I think both teams need this win so expect a dog fight.
Heritage wins 28-24
Salesian vs McClymonds- Salesian should in this game for the second straight year but Mack will be looking to upset.
Salesian wins 42-21
SPSV vs St Marys- SM is awful this year but SPSV is very down this year also. SM alays plays SPSV tough but that wont happen this year.
SPSV wins 28-14
Dougherty Valley vs Campo- Campo should wins this game and go 5-0 but DV is is a sneaky good team. I love Campos QB Stephans but this is league play and teams seem to turn it up a bit during this time.
Campo wins 31-24
Alameda vs Berkeley- Alameda played Encinal tough but Berkeley is coming into this game confident after a huge OT win over Pitt. The Hornets better be ready for a high dose of R. James because he’s back and ready to roll.
Berkeley wins 35-21
September 28th, 2011 at 10:42 am
Come on Man Down, really. De La Salle seemed to be running the ball at will, but every time they got close to scoring Houston put the ball on the ground. Their #1 back got hurt at the beginning of the game and they still moved the ball well on the ground. OK so De La is a running team and the quarterback is meant to manage the game, not win it. At the same time however, it is also the QB’s job not to lose it. Three turnovers and a 5 yard punt from one guy…I’d say that is a losing effort. Also, if you are claiming that the guy is the best in the area, who cares what the offensive scheme is, he should be a factor in a positive way.
Anyone have any other EBAL predictions other than Killer D going WAYYY out on a limb and picking Livermore over De La Salle. Lets not forget that the only EBAL wins Livermore has had in the past maybe 10 years are 2-3 and they have only beaten Granada. In the words of “The Wolf” from Pulp Fiction…”Let’s not go S’ing each others D’s just yet gentlemen.”
September 28th, 2011 at 10:56 am
KillerD, how do you believe Moreau will fare against JFK this Friday? I saw that you have them losing to JFK. Any specifics?
September 28th, 2011 at 11:43 am
I Know I am a little late on the Best QB topic here ,but Goff from MC is putting on an air show this year.
He is stats through 4 games are as follows
58 for 99 for 937 yards 11 touchdowns and 1 Int. and keep in mind he split time at QB the first two games.
Including the playoffs he could throw for 3000 yards.
His team is 4-0 against SI, Vacaville, Berkeley and Novato.
I would say he is the number 1 QB in the area right now
September 28th, 2011 at 11:47 am
By the way that gives him a 168 NCAA passing rating
September 28th, 2011 at 12:08 pm
panter4 i agree with both ur post, i never have been sold on houston, i think he is a product of the system. not sure what mandown saw in that last game but dont somebody else complete the td pass, it was a trick play, where does it say he is the top qb in the bay area, who ranked that, i do recall kline finished ahead of him at the elite 11 camp, the pulp fiction quote is funny,
im not drinking the kool aid on livermore either, dont see dls losing to a team that seems to b a 1 man show from what killerd is talking bout, who have they beat that makes people [mainly killerd] think they will beat the machine in dls, i have heard from some people on here saying that dls isnt very small and not the usual physical team, i will agree from what i have seen, but i dont think livermore can match their discipline and execution, and to think this kid is going to run all over them that will b a shocker, dls have so good and fast lb’s i being m barton, we shall see
September 28th, 2011 at 12:38 pm
If Livermore beats DLS Ill eat all the horse sh%%%&t between here and Livermore!
September 28th, 2011 at 3:17 pm
duderino obviously your part of the alameda staff but i see you continue to keep lying i’m not hornetfan but i’m a fan of the hornets since you know alot about the hornets can you confirm kemper dry snitching to the ref’s?
September 28th, 2011 at 3:53 pm
Spark Baldman- AHAHAHAHAHAA theres plenty of horse on your way to Livermore
September 28th, 2011 at 4:49 pm
That’s pretty funny Spark! I’ll put the spread on the Livermore Dela game at De La
-28. Any Livermore fans wanna take the points? Killer D perhaps…
September 28th, 2011 at 4:59 pm
KillerD likes being waaaaayyyyy out on the limb.
Therein are the sweetest pieces of fruit!
September 28th, 2011 at 5:05 pm
killerd im not mad at u for going out on a limb, its ur opinion and ur entitled to it, i cant wait for somebody to take down dls, with all the talk i hope i can catch this rb from livermore
September 28th, 2011 at 6:58 pm
Killer,
I’ll make you a friendly wager, if my Spartans lose to the cowboys, you change your handle for a week? If DLS loses, i change my handle…winner picks the handle for opponent…one condition, the handle has to be kid friendly….ie..Eatcrowsilver, etc..
September 28th, 2011 at 7:18 pm
TheOld97,
I’m going to guess it’s going to be that JFK-Rich will out-athlete us. They have some great athletes, especially their once receiver who is committed to Cal. It will be high scoring, at least on their side because our secondary has had problems recently.
If we can run the ball like we did in the first half against Dublin, it’ll be a great game to watch. IF this happens, we should win.
am I right KillerD?
All I hope is that the game isn’t decided by PATs (like Dublin game was).
First game of league! Ride the Wave!

I get up close & personal with all of these teams. So I will let ya know the insider scoop on the HAAL, & MVAL.
San Leandro 34 Tennyson 20
Tennyson has some talent in the backfield & a good receiver. But San Leandro has a better line and better team speed. SL will eventually wear the Lancers down. Expect the Pirates to win this one comfortably.
Bishop O’Dowd 33 Castro Valley 14
O’Dowd’s Magglio will pass for 250 yards & 4 Touchdowns. CV is no longer a threat in the HAAL. Chalk up win #12 for Nickerson and son.
Hayward 44 Mt.Eden 6
Mt.Eden is the worst team in the league. Hayward’s new coach has got them kids i check on the hill. The Farmers will be playing their back-ups in the 1st half.
Arroyo 48 San Lorenzo 3
Arroyo has many choices on who to give the ball to. Whether it’s Young, Fogel, or Porter
it won’t matter. San Lorenzo can’t stop them & all they have is Batiste. Let’s just say the San Lorenzo punter will busy on Saturday.
September 28th, 2011 at 10:42 pm
bleacher coach good point! and those teams marin beat! are really under rated! .. great victory! against Vacaville
September 29th, 2011 at 12:24 am
S1lverngreen, how many points are you going to give KillerD? If he has Livermore winning by a point, and you have DLS winning by say 40, maybe the line for your wager should be somewhere in between? There has to be many people that would be willing to take DLS and give 50.
September 29th, 2011 at 7:15 am
Old Sparky cant believe their is even banter about this game in Livermore! The Spartans lose to the #3 team in the nation and the Cowboys have not beat another EBAL team besides Granada in the last 10 years! Not only should people change handles but the skies will turn red, buildings will crumble and Hell just might freeze over. Go Cowboys! How about some meaningful EBAL games like SR-Amador, MV- Granada, Cal -Foothill?
September 29th, 2011 at 7:54 am
MoreauFan, I tussled mightily about the victor between Kennedy vs. Moreau and I am high on both programs and their turnaround.
Either winner is good for east bay football but I believe Kennedy has a larger chip on their shoulder after losing their coach. But Moreau has the chip from last season of course too after being affronted by NCS.
Your report from the game will be sought after this weekend, looking forward to reading it.
To all of those DLS lovers out there urging KillerD to take the “bet.”
Betting is for the super wealthy, of which I am not.
I am quite aware of Livermore’s historic drought vs. EBAL foes, which would make this upset all the more incredible.
Do I beleive Livermore WILL win? Probably not.
Did I pick them to win and how it will happen.
Yes, go Cowboooooooooooooooooooooooooys!
Other EBAL matchups asked about by SparkBaldman:
San Ramon vs. Amador: Wolves win 29 – 24 over Dons. Kline will slice and dice but Amador is an up and coming team. SRV struggled against a bad Washington team, but all teams have a Mulligan annually.
Granada vs. MV: Both Livermore schools win Friday night as Granada slaps MV around 35 – 30. Granada is more diversified in their attack this year and MV seems to be in a whirlpool of bad happenings of late. Losing Ertz hurts, and it’s too much for MV to hurdle.
Foothill at Cal: Very tough game. Look for Grizz to establish the run and play Cover 2 all night, except for 3rd or 4th and short. If the Grizz cannot defeat Falcons with 7 men in the box, then Foothill wins.
Cal 24 vs. Foothill 21
September 29th, 2011 at 9:43 am
Panther’s predictions…
De La 48- Livermore 14…De La Salle rebounds agains the decade long doormats of the EBAL. Livermore is remarkably better this year, but it won’t be enough to keep it close against a team needing to get back on track
San Ramon 28-Amador 27…Last year Amador took one away from the Wolves late in the season, but I don’t think that happens again this year. The Dons will keep it close but in the end, they will go for two and come up short.
Monte Vista 35-Granada 28…Everyone is writing off the Stangs but lets not get too crazy yet. The Atkinsonless Matadors have yet to beat a quality opponent and won’t be able to keep the nimble footed Lockie subdued.
California 40-Foothill 10…This one’s not going to be close. Despite the great coach Sweeney’s phenominal scheming and dismantling of Cal on video, he just doesn’t have the horses. Cal blows their balls off in a rout in this EBAL opener.
September 29th, 2011 at 10:23 am
while i may be biased…tough to call washington a bad team, when they took a team like SRV to 20-17 midway through the 4th…especially considering the schedule they have had…only DLS has played a tougher one according to Calpreps…while they havent been good, 0-4 never good..everyone wants to trash teams for not playing good oppoenents, yet you still trash a team that does (double standard dont you think?) losing to cal nothing to be ashamed of as they are still the clear #2 team in east bay and it was 21-13 in the 3rd before cal ran away w it…losing to DV 15-0 doesnt look too bad now, since we all saw the video of the TD that was taken away (not for hold, but for 2 WR’s lined up on LOS on opposite side of field), especially after we have seen DV offense carve up the last 2 opponents including the defending state champions..the AV was a bad game (everyone deserves a muligan right?), we looked like a bad team that night no doubt..and then SRV game of course…
you tell me one team that would look good coming off that 4 game stretch never dressing more than 22 in a game? encinal did it for 1 game vs serra and my hats off to them, but they didn’t play 4 serra’s in a row.
as for the ebal game picks this week, since seems to be the popular thing to do…Granada 35-28…SRV 28-14…cal 21-0 (foothill def been solid, but offense has struggled)..and finally DLS 35-0…at halftime..final 56-14…
September 29th, 2011 at 11:01 am
Ok Killer,
Since i’ve been deemed to be “super wealthy” (which unfortunately, i do not fall into this category, at least not in the material sense…rich and green and silver pride though!) we’ll pass on the bet.
Prep,
I watched a little film on the cowboys and based on that, I say DLS will be just fine…You going to the game?
Any predictions on the Bishop Gorman, Servite game?
September 29th, 2011 at 11:51 am
Hey I noticed Hercules is the only undefeated ACCAL team. Only played 3 games (more than likely will be 4-0 after this week) but when was the last time that ever happened? an PV giving the starters a rest this week vs DA? Let me know.
September 29th, 2011 at 12:00 pm
Gorman 40 Servite 21
September 29th, 2011 at 12:06 pm
MoreauFan, I don’t think you have much to worry about this week. Kennedy did not put up much of a fight against Salesian last weekend, it was rather disappointing. Kick the ball away from Walker and you should be fine. The line is huge, first time I’ve seen one bigger than Salesian’s, but rather immobile and frankly not very aggressive. It really didn’t even attempt to rush the passer. Their excellent RB get’s a lot of yardage on his own doing. Dynamite kicker though, looks like he can nail it at least out to 50 yards.
September 29th, 2011 at 12:30 pm
Gorman’s returners especially Shaquille Thompson didn’t impress me very much against that Florida team(or the Florida team’s athletes are overall step up from the West Coast). They semed to have 6-7 guys on D that were as fast as him & bigger. Their 2nd team RB played better then Thompson that game. 28-21 Servite.
September 29th, 2011 at 12:37 pm
Tough non-league for Washington. I think atleast a win against Amador Valley makes your case that you’re still a good team(or atleast a better showing getting skinned doesn’t help). All you have to do is win 5 games in league to qualify for a midrange seed 8-12. Then prove it in the play-offs. If you think Washington is good then that should mean atleast to semi-finals with a good showing. D-II is pretty down again. Maybe worse then last year even with the D-I additions.
September 29th, 2011 at 12:53 pm
Livermore also came into EBAL play last year at 3-0 and ended the season at 3-7. While they look to be much stronger this season, I just don’t see this one being close. It could be the perfect “trap” game for DLS coming off such an emotional nationally televised defeat, but the Spartans are not a team to fall into traps. The other 3 EBAL games should be much better games.
We’ll see if Cal can score more than Pitt and Logan against the stout Foothill defense. Their offense has yet to get on track yet though, and Cal has put up more than 40 in every game thus far. Cal should prevail.
AV beat SRV last season and looked much more impressive against the tough but schedule challenged Huskies, but I think SRV brings it against the Dons this week. Moreno is an up and coming QB though and should be the top dog in the EBAL next season.
Granada has their hands full with Lockie and the Mustang offense coming to town. This should be a shootout as neither team has shown much in the way of defense yet this year. However, MV’s has played a much tougher schedule to date and they should be able to outscore the Mats.
September 29th, 2011 at 12:54 pm
to HuskieFan, maybe my words “bad team” were too strong about Washington so far.
Logan will beat them so they will be at best 5-5 and their schedule was brutal non-league.
I might have should have described them as “winning averse” as of yet.
September 29th, 2011 at 1:12 pm
Perkin, You mean Shaq Powell? Shaq Thompson plays for Grant
September 29th, 2011 at 1:39 pm
fair enough…perkin never did i say washington was a good team…they have a long ways to proving that…the only point i was saying was calling them a bad team not fair considering the schedule and what they showed at times against the best teams in the east bay…good teams have to win games i agree…but bad teams dont take a team as talented as SRV w a d1 QB down to the wire…and i dont see anyone calling them a bad team for their folsom loss.
September 29th, 2011 at 2:08 pm
Island Bowl (Encinal vs. Alameda) highlights. What a game:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yh5dXilqjF4&feature=player_embedded
September 29th, 2011 at 2:45 pm
Shaq Powell sorry. Now Shaq Thompson is the type of athlete that can play with those Florida boys! I was really impressed with that Armwood team. The score didn’t reflect that game. Armwood really handled them. DLS I have all the respect in the world for but they don’t have the athletes any more to play with those types of teams. I don’t think anybody in Cali does. EIther the top teams don’t have the athletes or the teams with top athletes don’t run efficient enough programs or systems.
September 29th, 2011 at 4:56 pm
nobody has those kind of athletes…florida has surpassed texas and california…only socal can resemble that…too many all star teams being put together across the country now a days…no way to compete with that…an entire east bay all start team this year couldn’t play athlete for athlete w that team in my opinion.
September 29th, 2011 at 6:15 pm
MC qb Goff is the real deal, throws a beautiful ball…..only a junior
September 29th, 2011 at 6:49 pm
Sparty will play a very controlled game against Livermore. Sparty D will hold the cowboys to 0.
September 29th, 2011 at 7:48 pm
Guys…..I think it is a case of the east and the southeast being way ahead of the west in fielding football teams…The west still has a long way to go as it seems that the culture back east and the southeast has kids wanting to play and to win at all costs….The size of some of those kids makes you wonder what they are feeding them….
September 29th, 2011 at 8:04 pm
Perkin, check out the stats of the gorman armwood game…Gorman outgained them on the ground, in the air, and had more first downs. Take away the empty backfield screen where gorman missed 2 tackles and they win that game. How can you say that the score doesn’t reflect the game and that armwood handled them. I would take Shaq Powell on my team any day as well.
September 29th, 2011 at 9:09 pm
I guess you didn’t watch the game stat guy. The score was 20-3 & Armwood lost their best player. They played prevent late in the 3rd & most of the 4th. Armwood was also getting homered on numerous holding calls. Take Shaq Powell off that team & the calls & it isn’t close. They barely scored that last TD as it was.
September 29th, 2011 at 9:41 pm
Grant & Poly have the athletes to play with those teams.
September 29th, 2011 at 10:53 pm
Pitt has as much talent as any team in cali!.. but there coaching is terrible man… Come on i remember a year they had a kid named avery Paterson .. I think thats his name with eric daragan.. and these to other washington state commits… and that team.. got blown out by de la salle… that whole secondary was D1
September 29th, 2011 at 11:37 pm
The measure of a team or coach is not whether they got blown out by DLS. That was a very good Pitt team that went 11-2 with their only losses to a good Monte Vista team by 3 on a late FG and to DLS in the NCS championship game 34-10.
September 29th, 2011 at 11:39 pm
Thank you scoop.. im glad someone else sees pitts coaches as over rated.. except the D cord..
September 30th, 2011 at 12:12 am
Wow, stat guy…That is very original. Actually Armwood didn’t lose their best player, he didn’t even suit up as he was recovering from off season knee surgery. Surprised you didn’t know that. Also, gorman took the ball to the 3 yard line on their first posession and went for the td and didn’t get it, then had to settle for 3 on their next posession as well inside armwoods 10. Could have easily been 14-0 in the other direction. Also, prevent for a quarter and a half?? Armwood’s coaches weren’t stupid which is what they would have had to have been to play prevent for that long against a run first team. Not sure if you’ve ever coached football before, but most of us know that the only thing a prevent D does is prevent you from winning. Sounds like you may not like Gorman for other reasons? I’ve been a fan since I watched them play De La Salle last year. Also your comment about taking Shaq Powell of the team is kind of silly. First you say how unimpressed you are with the kid, now he is the whole team which is it? You speak so knowledgeably about a kid whom you don’t even know his correct name.
September 30th, 2011 at 12:28 am
Wasn’t trying to clown buddy. But Armwood did prevent that day & won. It just sounds to me that you’re really butt hurt that DLS can’t compete with those teams. They just proved it a week ago. Sorry Buddy I’m a DSL fan but they can’t beat those teams. Come to Reality. & re-read my post I was impressed with Armwood’s whole team.
Yeah I’m not some computer nerd that knows everybodies name & stats. Just a casual fan Bro.
September 30th, 2011 at 12:29 am
Should be some interesting games this weekend!!! Killer D I like ur picks!
September 30th, 2011 at 6:59 am
i am not hear to argue whether pitts coaches are good or not. but there is the ignorance in too many fans…they had a d1 secondary, great! how about the trenches. These teams not only have the secondary people but also the front 7 combination.
and further more, a d1 secondary isn’t going to win you a game vs DLS. considering they play the game at the LOS. which in my opinion is why they struggled so much vs Don Bosco, because those LB’s and DL were ridiculous. play a fast athletic team, DLS usually ok against (ala Crenshaw and just about every other SOCAL team) SOCAL breeds skilled position players not lineman and it shows in the Pac-12. the reason they can’t beat the SEC schools on a consistent base. USC had a few years, but other than that match up every pac 12 team w an SEC team and they would be lucky to win 1 or 2…fact is they have the athletes but they also have the horses upfront. something very few of our teams have both of.
September 30th, 2011 at 7:19 am
Butt hurt about De La Salle? I thought we were talking about Gorman. Nothing about my but hurts. Of course armwood is good, they are ranked #2 in the country. They were huge and very athletic. I just feel that Gorman had just as good of chance to win that game. Maybe you are a bit confused since you are just a casual fan, and keep confusing names and teams. Shaquille Powell plays for Bishop Gorman, Shaq Thompson plays for Grant. De La Salle wears green and silver and played St. Thomas Aquinas. Bishop Gorman wears orange and blue and plays Armwood. Hope you enjoy your day. Today is Friday by the way.
September 30th, 2011 at 8:41 am
Hey fellas,
Did I read somewhere that the HC at Livermore is a DLS alum?
September 30th, 2011 at 9:17 am
CSD won 54 to 0 against Emery. CSD scored 54 in first half. They showed great character by backing off for the rest of the game by taking knee near the goal line.
September 30th, 2011 at 9:27 am
78. EBayRef:
i hope that your opinions dont influence what you see on the field today, tonight, or tomorrow. it would be a shame if a so called high school ref was to let his predictions cloud his judgement on what should be a pretty competetive opening weekend for the HAAL.
San Leandro at Tennyson: should be a great game for as long as t-high can ride the momentum of 3-0 and the home crowd. just 2 years ago the game was very close in the 3rd qtr. i think san leandro will eventually wear down the lancers with there depth. SL 26-20
Bishop O’Dowd at Castro Valley: Miroglio has good numbers. Castro Valley has faced better passing games against Cal and Monte Vista. O’Dowd hasnt been able to stop the run and Sellers is a touchdown on any carry type of talent. If O’dowd goes in to the game as with an were defending champs mind set they will be upset. I dont think they will. Nail biter. BOD 40-38
Hayward vs Mt Eden(sunset): Hayward got blown out by Central Catholic, lost 27-0 to Encinal in a game that was close at the half, held on for a 20-12 win against a 1 win Mt. Diablo team that whose lone win was against a horrible SLZ team and Tennyson destroyed them. Mt Eden got blown out by Terra Linda, showed there not used to winning by letting Richmond get back in the game before holding on 34-29, and lost 27-0 to Capuchino in a game that was close at the half. Both teams are young and depth challanged. And the great thing is its a rivalry game so none of that stuff matters to those kids who will put on a great show for their fans. Mt Eden 19-12
San Lorenzo at Arroyo: San Lorenzo isnt very good but Batiste is talented. Over hyped, very talented, under performing, Inconsistant. Look anyone of those up and you will see a Arroyo team photo. SLZ will play hard. Arroyo will win but the score depends on what Arroyo shows up. Arroyo 24-6
September 30th, 2011 at 10:12 am
I agree with #114 which Arroyo team will show up !!
September 30th, 2011 at 10:25 am
We all know you’re DLS guy Stat boy & it bothers you that you know you team isn’t getting the guys they need to play aginst these teams like they were in the late 90′s early 2000′s. Its also stupid of you to comment on a game that you didn’t watch. But quoted stats.
September 30th, 2011 at 12:50 pm
Arroyo is terrible…
September 30th, 2011 at 2:02 pm
PERKIN, you on drugs?? Where in the hedoublehockeysticks did you come up with me as a De La fan? This whole thing began because of you knocking Bishop gorman and Shaq Thompson…I mean Powell. I am a fan of Gorman due to certain connections with the school, but in no way am I a De La Salle guy. Also, how can you say I didn’t watch these games because of the fact that I know the statistics of the games. De La Got their balls blown off by Aquinas, largely due to the play of their QB. Three turnovers and a 5 yard punt. Gorman was 14 seconds and a missed field goal away from sending it to OT. In my attempt to dispute your comments about about Bishop Gorman, you somehow were led to believe that I am a De La guy?? Iinteresting. I am an EBAL guy who knows a little about football having been involved in one way or another For the past 30 years or so. I plan on watching Gorman play Servite on ESPNU tonight, and I will be rooting for Gorman. I’ll let you know on Monday how many snaps of prevent D they play. Have a nice Wednes…I mean Friday. Go Spartans! HA HA
September 30th, 2011 at 2:59 pm
Perkin, you say you root for De La- right? Very good.
Panther4- you root for Gorman-right? Very good. Do you follow Servite? Very good. Do you follow De La? Very good. Panther4, are you affiliated with the St. Mary’s Panthers in Berkeley? That’s De La’s sister school from the mid ’60′s.
Now both of you make up and we’ll see ya in Mass Sunday morn.
Sat. I am going to attend the SMCHS-SPSV game, my 1971 championship hall of fame team is attending and being presented at halftime. Come and a REAL team from the past. Yea, we would have been spanked by DeLa, Gorman and Servite, but the rest, no way.
September 30th, 2011 at 9:19 pm
Silvergreen, if you run into Diller D in one of the Livermore watering holes, you better hold it forr him if he hits the restroom- he’s going to need it.
September 30th, 2011 at 9:23 pm
Killer D- Birddog, are you ready to walk?
September 30th, 2011 at 9:31 pm
Killer D, yo HB had 10 for 36, the 1st run was 28, that means the last 9 carries added to 8 yds. He needed you blockin’ up front at the FB position- FB- Full of Bull.
September 30th, 2011 at 9:46 pm
Come in Houston. One game don’t make it right yet. Space Station to Houston, DLS needs this kind of launch from you every game, including playoffs.
September 30th, 2011 at 10:35 pm
Anyone know final score for Fortuna-McKinleyville?
September 30th, 2011 at 11:07 pm
The DLS fans are back now that they beat an EBAL team. After getting the wood laid to them in Florida the Spartan Brotherhood/Family etc… BS went out the door as they turned on their quarterback (same bloggers who say not to mention a players name) and Coach Lad. I’ve mentioned many times about the hypocrisy of this program and it was certainly on display after the “lets be nice” loss last week. Paraphrasing the words of the Great College/NFL Coach Dennis Green “You are who we thought you are”!!! Funny how no one wants to mention the KNBR discussion last week about this school playing in a league with the Public’s.
September 30th, 2011 at 11:33 pm
EBAL- What was the discussion on KNBR, missed it?
September 30th, 2011 at 11:46 pm
I hope Salesian gets a little respect after the beating they put on Mack tonight. Nightigale coached a brilliant game and the O/D line played like champions. You can say all you want about this program. Bottom line is they are a quality football team. Their RB Marcial Malic put up 286 yards on 20 carries and 3 TD’s. Big plays by the defense when needed. Great job tonight team!
September 30th, 2011 at 11:58 pm
Salesian will get respect when they petition up to DIII and get out of the BFL.
October 1st, 2011 at 12:16 am
Killer D – you called it…except the final score. Moreau scores with 1:00 remaining to go up by one. The Mariners hold on to win 35-34. Props to Kennedy, they have some great athletes.
MoreauFan – you need a little more faith in the Mariners.
Pride Baller – you were right Kennedy has some big lineman but they are not very active. Moreau kicked away from Walker all night.
October 1st, 2011 at 12:17 am
Sounds like an angry cowboy fan…nothing to see move along
October 1st, 2011 at 12:19 am
damn cant believe my pirates lost to tennyson wow, this is bad, guess people are going to b all over coach boom, we never lose to them im so shocked, guess they still stuck on the b high win.
where are all the alameda people that was say they was go beat b high wow that got smashed, both var and jv got a donut on the scoreboard, b high whole 1st drive was to rb james, and they knew that was coming, just terrible, they dropped so many passes i think they was scared.
October 1st, 2011 at 12:28 am
hahahah! told you guys tennyson was going to be good! in the off season! what i tell you?! i am not even a tennyson fan! but wow! i didnt even think they would be this good
October 1st, 2011 at 12:30 am
I saw that game.. Tennyson played fast and matched SL.. I think SL mightve taken them a bit light with so many players on the sideline that looked like they coulda helped.. especially 42.
Tennyson is not a joke this year. SL paid for it. Dont know why those guys werent suited up.
October 1st, 2011 at 12:31 am
My posse needed several mugs of ice cold sasparilla tonight after the Cowboys were beaten badly.
Props to:
DLS for coming up Aces against a respectable Livermore team
Moreau (my 2nd place BSAL pick in 2011) for getting a very good win vs. Kennedy
Monte Vista for outlasting Granada in a thriller
Valley Christian for beating two higher division teams so far, DV and now Sequoia. VC needs to be in Top 15 now
KillerD had an OKKKKKay weekend of picks, but nothing to write home about
And WHAT has happened to Ygnacio Valley????? Ouchie
October 1st, 2011 at 12:32 am
Props also to Tennyson, how about those Lancers………
October 1st, 2011 at 12:44 am
Mt. Eden is not going to be as improved as hoped by many. Terrible road to hoe, long, winding, uphill climb.
As I have stated for two years, many teams in HAAL, MVAL and MDUSD are in bad, baaaaaaaad trouble regarding football. Some are at the threshold of the old do or die motto for real, and forever.
Bummer for them and us and the kids
October 1st, 2011 at 1:13 am
Pitt Grunt,
What’s going on at Pirate stadium?? I was expecting Pitt to show much better vs GB? What are you seeing or not?
October 1st, 2011 at 1:17 am
teehee are u say #42 from SL didnt play at all, if not thats bad he is they leader, i know mcbride is still out they could really use his speed, im so disappointed they lost to tennyson wow, this season is crazy but great, any given friday night lol coach boom is going to take hell for this, o cordinator need to change that scheme though
October 1st, 2011 at 1:33 am
HOW ABOUT THEM PIRATES LMAO.
October 1st, 2011 at 2:10 am
Tennyson played real good today. Don’t know why #42 didn’t play. I hope they didn’t take tennyson lightly cuz it really cost them. SL probably killed their playoff chances losing to a low rated D3 school.
Oh and alameda got Ran!!.. Not a shocker tho…

funny how bloggers come out of nowhere and want to say something, also funny how most bloggers talk lots of trash they team lose and they go quiet for a while, well even though im not talkin a bunch of smack bout my pirates im go take all the talk oh well life goes on, hope this lose wakes them up.
October 1st, 2011 at 4:57 am
Nobody is talkin trash about the Pirates. I just went to what was considered to be a big game in the HAAL this week and it did not disappoint, it was a great game. I just seen a lot of big kids on the sidelines and was wondering about them.
October 1st, 2011 at 7:22 am
KNBR discussion (30 minutes at least) was about the uneven playing field that DLS enjoys over the public’s. Nothing that has not been talked about on this blog but surprised it made it to the KNBR level.
”
An angry Cowboy Fan? “No” a fan of whoever plays DLS, “yes”. DLS probably thinks beating an EBAL team 62 – 0, (who hasn’t had a league victory in years) brings respect to their program. Some people will say “nothing to see, time to move on” but there was a lot to see last night. Your probably thinking about about how much more respect you would have gotten if you scored “75″.
October 1st, 2011 at 8:46 am
@ S1lverngreen,
Pitt took the opening kick off into the red zone and the QB (Watson) threw a pick, one of 4 picks tonight. By far his worst night. #6 dropped at least 6 balls. Not his best night either. But the life of the team was taken out when the Pitt punter suffered one of worst broken leg injuries I have ever seen. Late hit on a punt, and from the stands you could clearly see his lower leg was bent like the letter “L”. Before the play ended, two Pitt coaches were sprinting onto the field trying to calm the screaming player. One official threw a flag. Moron. Game was stopped for 30 minutes. After the game, I learned that the punter is one of more popular players on the team. Great personality, great student…just a great kid. The players were pretty shaken up. At one point early in the 4th, the score was 20-7 and Pitt was in red zone but Watson throw a another pic. It was that type of night.
Normally a game like tonight would have pissed me off, but after seeing that injury, I could care less about the outcome. Just thinking about that punter. We need to remember that this is only a game.
October 1st, 2011 at 8:50 am
De La not into running up the score. The reserves scored 28 after the half with a running clock. Your right, it could of been over 75.
DLS is getting it done with better coaching, conditioning and attitude. They are small and most are not going to play college. EBAL 5, your league wanted them, so live with it. If it were Gorman, Servite, Bellarmine, STA and all the other high powered privates, it would be the same way. Who cares what KNBR says, it’s news ro report.
Where did you play or did you play? DLS fanbase consists of lots of people all over, however one thing is for sure, the ex-football fan base has lots of very successful high school and college stars, the guys who really understand what’s going on, NOT YOU.
October 1st, 2011 at 8:55 am
EBAL fan, who said football was nice? It is a semi- violent game. If you can’t stand DLS then you better move to Alaska, better yet Russia, cuz the Spartans are going to be winning for a very long time.
You are right on one thing, the DLS fans are also aggresive and aren’t going to take any sheeeeeeeeeeeet.
October 1st, 2011 at 9:02 am
Pitt Grunt,
First, i am very sorry to hear about your punter, wish him a speedy recovery. Those type of incidents can certainly affect a team, particularly at the high school level. I know what you mean about turnovers, we’ve had our share in the last 4 weeks. How did MMC play?
October 1st, 2011 at 9:17 am
EBAL5,
A running clock early in the 3rd Qrt, DLS starters out early in the 3rd, a 3rd string QB playing in the 4th QTR, oh yeah, that sounds like running up the score. Were you even at the game??
October 1st, 2011 at 9:23 am
@ S1lverngreen,
Agreed on the ugly injuries at the high school level. People in the stand were shaken up.
Cotton ran the ball very well. He splits time at RB with Vunipola and plays defense. He is a big hitter on D and had many hits tonight. He had three jarring hits on GB Wrs that separated the players from the ball. He plays on a lot of special teams. Many on this board seems to think Pitt is loaded with talent and athletes. Nothing could farther from the truth.
Turnovers are killing Pitt.
The “DLS recruits” accusation by many on this blog is laughable, boarding on absurd. DLS is DLS because they have an incredible coaching staff. If you cannot see that, than you must be a cricket fan because you certainly don’t know football.
October 1st, 2011 at 9:30 am
Pitt,
Thanks for the update. Again, i hope your punter and the rest of your boys recover quickly and move forward to a successful season. I got to know MMC at DLS as my son played FB and ran track with him…great athlete and a sweet kid with a great heart, we could have used him at Sparta this year. Good luck Pitt, i’ll be pulling for you guys until we meet in the play offs! (-:
October 1st, 2011 at 9:42 am
“uneven playing field”- goodness. will this this public school-feminine attitude ever end?
Here we go again…. does Moreau have an “uneven playing field”???
October 1st, 2011 at 10:39 am
well when you look at Mt. Eden it kinda makes the point. Perenon who made a name for himself at a private school pretty much has a bad team over there.
Its not his fault, he doesnt have the athletes that he had at O’Dowd year after year. Lad doesnt win at these lowly public schools either.
October 1st, 2011 at 11:02 am
#138 ya… 42 was out.
San Leandro was just getting blown up at the LOS really.. the line lost the battle up front. And when San Leandro was doing their Wing-T stuff, Tennyson just had everything covered. You cant even really pick a number that stood out on Defense for Tennyson, they just did great as a unit.
October 1st, 2011 at 11:54 am
@teehee
i wasnt refering to you it was toward the people that pop up uot of the blue and the trasf talkers that disappear when they team lose wondering where are all the alameda fans at now, they are quiet, my team lost and hey it is what it is, i am wondering whats going at SL they do have alot of big guys, hope they back next game we got to run the table. like ur post #153
@pitt grunt
sorry to hear that kind of injury to a kid, injuries are part of the game just hate to hear bout 1′s that are that bad, ur coach will get the kids to bounce back and take care of league, hope watson have better days
C’MON MAN
here we go again, lets b real here dls may not recruit like the used to in the 80′s and 90′s but they do just maybe not as much, if you look back at the big time players from the 80′s thru now majority of them played in the diablo valley youth football conference, in the 80′s and 90′s you would see an asst coach at many of the games, have had friends and opposing players tell me they was being recruited to dls, in fact when i attended a high school championship game when i was an 8th grade at the coliseum i ran n2 leon callen, the game that pitt beat dls the last time they lost an ncs championship, and yes he said they was, i was there for the same reason, for private school that was all boys at the time like dls, that school was a good football program when they was all boys and recruiting good youth football players hhmmm, u ask me i think its smart, and also its not illegal, now if you dont want to believe some of those kids dont recieve financial asst u got to b crazy, if your grades are pretty good they can label it as an academic scholarship. it happens if u want to believe it or not.now they dont have to go recruit like that anymore, kids now want to try to get in the school now themselves, u talk to kids they say they want to go to a school that always win, BUT they however dont get the multiple of star players as they used to, i think the coaching staff coach and stress the fundamentals, hard work and assignment football, if you want to take them down its not matching up with them with size speed power and atheles, they have so many time beaten team that are bigger stronger faster, u got to match the work ethic, fundamentals and discipline.
October 1st, 2011 at 11:57 am
teehee
thanks for the info, im really not a big fan of our offense, got lotss of good ath. not the best offense for the talent they have, wonder who is the calls that o for them
October 1st, 2011 at 12:22 pm
At the risk of being a new homer, yesterday’s game between San Leandro and Tennyson was a great football game. Lancer fan does not always have a lot to crow about, so yesterday was very satisfying. I was waiting for the Pirates to come back, and their quick score to start the second half was cause to worry of a collapse. The Lancers responded (Alson Paxson Jr. was a man yesterday!) and the defense, as already noted, played like a unit. I talked to a couple of the injured Pirate players and they were impressed with Tennyson’s play. First win against San Leandro since ’94. We were due.
October 1st, 2011 at 12:27 pm
Pitt grunt- thats idiotic of the officials to throw a flag.. Sideline warnings are a joke in High School Football, I seen alot of Freedom and Pitt games and its redicolous (CP’s head coach was always out on the field but yet no warnings or flags were thrown the whole game)..I see offensive coaches that are always out on the field for CP.. but yet if any coach steps out on the field.. for Freedom or Pitt.. they get nailed for it.. I agree its a moron penalty
October 1st, 2011 at 4:47 pm
how about them Vikings? they beat washington. looks like washington isn’t going to the playoffs this year.
October 1st, 2011 at 6:26 pm
Pawn Star,
I have a good amount of faith in the mariners, my last post was mostly my projection of what KillerD would say, but I was pretty right in what I said. However, the DBs really impressed me, they covered pretty well and most of their passing yardage was from when we rushed 3. We started blitzing at the end and it took away most of the passing game.
And when I said they would (and should) attempt to out-athlete us, I was right with all of their attempts to run outside and using their speed around the edges.
Overall, I’m somewhat proud of us. We should have beaten them handily, but seemed to let up when we were up 23 with little time in the 2nd. We had been running some of the no-huddle Cotter and Mietz implemented this season and it was wearing their defense down. However, when we came out of the half, we seemed to have decided to burn as much time off the clock as we could. This gave their line’s time to catch their breath and able to mount their comeback. The offense re-figured themselves after the fumble went for a score for them to give JFK the lead.
The No-Huddle should definitely be in place as much as possible when playing teams with low numbers of players to try and tire them out. Hopefully this game gave the coaching staff a little kick in the rear that we need to build a bigger lead before we seem to get complacent.
On a side note, Walker looked like a play maker out there. Small kid, tons of talent. They did have some real big uglies on the line, just as Pawn Star said. However, their kicker seemed to just have a big leg, they didn’t really trust him much, seemed to have accuracy problems.
Bring on St. Mary’s! Anyone want to give me a scouting report on them this year? I’ve only seen scores and they aren’t pretty.
Ride the Wave!
-MF
October 1st, 2011 at 7:01 pm
St Mary is easily one of the worst teams in the Bay Area nuff said
October 1st, 2011 at 7:26 pm
What are some games in the NCS next week… everyone and their mother has a bye. I know.. Antioch vs Northgate, Monte Vista vs California.. what else?
October 1st, 2011 at 8:55 pm
KillerD,
You were spot on three weeks ago boldly predicting a Fortuna victory over my ‘Hounds at Healdsburg, which they did…Next weekend, the Huskies stop just shy of Oregon to take on Del Norte. Your thoughts / assessment of this matchup next Friday night..
October 1st, 2011 at 8:59 pm
teehee- what was DLS’s record before he got there??? I will help you out- they NEVER had a winning season.
Quit making the same old, tired, lame, unfounded, false arguments for the “uneven playing field”- it is ignorant.
October 1st, 2011 at 9:02 pm
Moreau Fan,
Sorry, I thought you were fading on your enthusiasm on the Mariners. I re-read your post and see you were trying to figure out KillerD’s pick. I was just teasing you. I have been following Moreau Football since 2004. I am fan too, my son played for Moreau. I would say your analysis was very good. I would argue that I thought it was a good idea to come out in the 2nd half running the ball and running time off the clock, about 7:00 minutes. If that time was still on the clock when Kennedy had the ball at the end we might have had a different out come. I like the power I with lineman in the back field and I too like the no huddle. I don’t think Moreau loses again until Encinal. I will withhold that prediction until we get closer to end of the season.
October 1st, 2011 at 9:19 pm
“teehee- what was DLS’s record before he got there??? I will help you out- they NEVER had a winning season.

When did he take over? 2 maybe 3 decades ago? Times were a lot different. Perenon did the same thing with O’Dowd, again, how is Mt. Eden workin out? They look worse than last year.
October 1st, 2011 at 9:22 pm
Also: Moreau should go back to the HAAL. Why the MVAL?
October 1st, 2011 at 9:58 pm
In order for Washington to qualify for the playoffs, they would just need to go .500 against Division 2 teams. Since they only play 2 Division 2 teams, Newark & American, they would just need to win 1 of those games. Of course, that doesn’t mean they’ll actually get in or get a decent seed, but they can still qualify pretty easily, despite their tough schedule.
October 1st, 2011 at 10:01 pm
Prep fan,
Even though they qualify, I feel like there are much better quality teams out there that will get in over them.
October 1st, 2011 at 10:11 pm
I went to the Arroyo vs Slz game
That man Michael Young Jr is a true runner.
Arroyo has weapons on they team i think they can pull the win next week against Bishop O’Dowd Its gone be a battle
October 1st, 2011 at 10:11 pm
teehee- you are equating Pernon’s record at Odowd with Lad at DLS?? wow.
You havent answered why Moreau hasnt taken advantage of the “uneven playing field” … or St Marys, Valley Christian, Athenian, Bentley, SPSV, etc,etc etc…
give it up.
October 1st, 2011 at 11:08 pm
cant believe st mary’s beat spsv and it wasnt a close game
October 2nd, 2011 at 1:21 am
Junior your arguments are insanely bad. Schools like Moreau, Valley Christian, Athenian and Bentley could careless about athletics.
However its all within the resources. If you want, go look at the weight rooms of your typical private school.. then go take a look at the weight room at Mt. Eden, Tennyson, Mt. Diablo, etc. and let me know the difference you see.
Who’s sports program do you think will shut down first? O’Dowd’s or Mt. Diablos? DLS or San Lorenzo? St. Ignatius or Northgate? Serra or Encinal?
I bet for each selection you chose a public school.
October 2nd, 2011 at 2:57 am
Newark defeated JFK Fremont 55-9. I think JFK will go 0-10 this season.
October 2nd, 2011 at 8:19 am
Have you seen DLS’s weight room and sports facilities? wrong again.
The fact that the public schools are so poorly run they might have to close their sports programs has NOTHING to do with an uneven playing field.
Leadership is needed at a school if they want success on the field- not money.
As yourself this, why do the public schools dominate the SJS?

Mack was tough and will contend in the OAL but Salesian hammered them at the end. Now it’s snooze mode for a few weeks until Valley C comes to town in late October.
Salesian was in the process of wearing Mack down but Mack’s coach really hurt their cause with two ill-advised unsportsmanlike penalties in the second half. He was upset about a potential late hit by Salesian on the Mack sideline but it was not called. He stayed in the ear of the official for way too long and got nailed twice, the second time basically taking them out of a makeable fourth down play. It helped the Pride’s cause but was disappointing to see, those kids worked hard to hang in there most of the game and coach just lost it, a real bad example for those kids.
I’m looking for the Pride to bust the top 10 this week; Jimmy was at this game and could see firsthand the top notch talent and determination of this team.

Junior, I don’t think that teehee is saying that the coaching at De La Salle is not fantastic, but for you to say that it is a level playing field seems pretty ignortant in its own right. Forget about the recruiting thing, they don’t need to recruit because kids from all over want to go there. In no way am I whining about this because it is what it is. I am a public school guy and we have to play De La so we deal with it. But for you to say that it is a level playing field is rediculous. I have this arguement every year with someone on here. Bart Houston for example is a Cal High guy, he lives in San Ramon. In fact I would say that at least 3 out of their last 5 qb’s are from the san ramon/danville area. Public schools play the hand they are dealt, where privates get to modify theirs a little. Coach Lad is a great coach and has done things that most coaches would never be able to. I don’t think that you would find anyone who knows football argue that fact. He is a special guy who has gotten the most out of every young man to play for him. However, it ain’t an equal talent pool. a lot of their guys are from the concord area, but a lot of them aren’t as well. I did a little research a few years back to see just how many kids would actually attend if it played by the public school rules and it was about 60% of their roster. So if your arguement holds water. Do you think that they would have had the same success if they had only played with 60% of the kids they have had over the years? And you can’t pick the 60% either.

Why do public schools dominate the SJS?
October 2nd, 2011 at 10:33 am
Support. People out there care.
I have coached out here. Some parents take it as ‘extended daycare’ or simply ‘keeping a kid out of trouble’ which I actually agree with the latter. But kids in the SJS both public and private care out there.
A lot of schools out here seem to hit the other extreme of academic involvement that athletics is almost BLACKLISTED. I would go as far to say that some low-performing schools would blame athletics
October 2nd, 2011 at 10:36 am
“Have you seen DLS’s weight room and sports facilities? wrong again.”
ESPN did a feature on MJD.. their weight room is awesome. But as panther said I am not saying the coaching at DLS is subpar, but they are able to take advantage of A LOT of things that other coaches are not.
October 2nd, 2011 at 12:09 pm
If you believe the DLS weightroom is “awesome”- more power to you.
Finally we have come to an agreement on this debate- the parents count alot towards the teams success.
Solution for public schools in Bay Area: get better parents/mimic the SJS public schools.
Not a solution: whining, complaining and making excuses about “uneven playing fields”. You know what to do- go do it- change the culture at your public school.
October 2nd, 2011 at 12:42 pm
If you want to see a super weight-room Arch Bishop Mitty…open Glass walls that look out onto field and top of the line equipment. DLS is simply a dank cave with two doors..air in & air out and lights that work with decent equipment..and a waiting line of various sports & players running through it non stop.
October 2nd, 2011 at 12:44 pm
of course dls have a nice wieghtroom, they new wieghtroom was donated to them by former nfl player steve wiesneski, excuse the spelling, but they not the only school that has a nice 1, st marys has a good 1, mack does, coaches and AD’s sometimes got to go out and hustle and get alumni, or just very kind donors. yes private schools can recruit 8th graders and even help them with the financial burden, it is what it is, but what really sets dls from other private and public schools is the coaching staff plain and simple
October 2nd, 2011 at 1:25 pm
Panther,
The reason that 60% of the kids are from outside the “area” going to DLS is because it is the only Catholic School on that side of the hill (along the 680 corridor). Apparently your research didn’t take into account where the other Catholic High Schools are located (Albany, Richmond, Oakland, Alameda, Hayward). One of the advantages DLS has is that have built a winning program that naturally attracts athletes to the highly visble program.
October 2nd, 2011 at 3:04 pm
whats all this talk about weight rooms
weights dont throw passes weight dont run footballs weights cant cover anyone weights dont hit people
HIT THE BULLY UNTIL THE BULLY QUITS
MOST BULLYS HAVNT BEEN HIT
those Florida boys hit DLS and hit them hard and often ever play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BELIEVE IT OR NOT PAIN IS THE EQUALIZER
pain stop the best players even the thought of pain can stop some players
October 2nd, 2011 at 3:08 pm
Pawn Star, are you saying that all these great football players go to De La because it is a Catholic school? That’s a good one. I’m not speaking about 60% of the student body I’m talking about 60% of the team. DJ Williams and MJD didn’t go to De La Salle because it is a catholic school.
October 2nd, 2011 at 4:26 pm
Pawn Star your wrong.. I can bet money that the reason why people go to their school is athletics
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:58 pm
Panther4, obviously you aren’t a SMCHA alum- I thought so because of your handle.
You and others still don’t get it. Catholic high schools have kids from all over, not all of them, but many of them.
St. Mary’s gets kids from Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, Hercules, Richmond, Emeryville and Oakland.
Bellarmine got kids from all over, including the EastBay back in the day. The reason why the WCAL now stays within city limits is because Serra, St. Francis, Mitty, Valley Christian are all in the south bay. Before DLS pre ’65, St. Mary’s got the kids on the other side of the tunnel. These kids consisted of Catholic grammer schools feeding Catholic high schools, the same as it is today. They also got non-Catholics from these schools and public grammer schools, private schools, etc. Parents chose to send their children to Catholic high schools, for what ever reason. We are talking about all the students, not just jocks.
If you know anything about DeLaSalle today, their student body and CHS student body comes from all over Contra Costa County, Solano and Alameda counties. They all don’t play sports, however if the schools pull from all over then obviously student-atheletes are included. The Danville, San Ramon and Alamo area have Catholic grammer schools feeding DLS and CHS since they opened-both in 1965. Until another Catholic high school opens in the East County area, they will continue to draw. O’Dowd was the same way until Moreau opened, they drew from Oakland, Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Castro Valley and beyond. Catholic schools have no boundaries for all students, but they do fill up fast. Their student population is way under most public schools, so that should even out the numbers game. It might have something to do with parents raising kids with more preparation in dedication, time management, etc.etc. Are parents sending them to DLS because of sports, yea and the kids have to want to go there. They have an extensive interview process and if they pick up it’s your parents and not you, you get declined. It’s what it is. Many SoCal and SJS publics are very successful and yes they are normally in better economic areas.
A good example is the amount of college bound QB’s coming out of the South Bay, better standards, parents got them involved in the position early in life, send them to camps, some of the Dad’s played college football. And yes, ALL Catholic high schools have financial aid and it doesn’t all go to atheletes. DLS has over a million a year aid spread to to 1000 plus students who might be eligable. In return, the student has to work it off.
October 2nd, 2011 at 6:36 pm
Teehee,
Moreau used to be in the MVAL.
And perhaps it is to get their image down in Fremont to try and get more kids from down there. If we go north to the HAAL, there is BOD in the territory that will take good athletes from the area. Instead I think Moreau may be looking to try and get kids from further south instead.
Or possibly they don’t like the multiple conference association they were involved in, and the MVAL offered better overall competition in all sports, not just football.
Maybe we didn’t like all the talk of the mobile conferences so decided it was best to just get away from it.
I’d like to be back in the HAAL, liked playing a lot of those teams and wasn’t too happy about the move to the BSAL. But maybe they’re trying to re-establish the rivalries down south.

@chalktalk
i halfway agree, but the team needs to get bigger and stronger in the offseason, my point was many diff schools ptivate and public have new or pretty nice wieght rooms, and what sets dls from most of california mostly north, is the coaching staff, the fundementals and discipline and great work ethic as a team that they instill in the kids, dls have beaten many of teams they shouldnt have, i even have heard from some former players mouth that they knew some teams was so loaded and shouldve beat them but they are so prepared, are disciplined and relentless.
lets not forget the walnut creek have a private school and dublin also berean christian and valley christian, much smaller schools but they are on the 680 corridor, when u talk to many of non concord kids as to why they want to go to dls, they will tell u, they want to play football and win, cant blame the kids.
i understand y some of the bloggers feel people are whinning bout the uneven playing field, it is uneven to an extent, yes the can have kids attend the school that live where ever, yes some of those kids cant afford it and get financial asst. what some of you dont know is if u dont take care of ur grades the will not have you come back to the school, i feel if a kid can qualify to get in academically and keep the grades up, athelete or not if the school has the resources to assist financially then im not mad at them, any good parent wants a good education for they kid, not to say u cant get a good education in a public school
October 2nd, 2011 at 7:07 pm
my main point if u want to beat dls u 1st have to match what the coaching staff is doing, i dont believe they are the most talented team in ncs year in and year out. i would like to see them go down, i respect the staff, my pirates had many chances [like 5] in the 2000′s and the last we blew it a 14-0 lost with like 4 times in the redzone.
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:14 am
Lol.. Dixon would turn into a turnover machine against DLS
October 3rd, 2011 at 7:00 am
Big Joe, what was your point in that explanation. I understand that plenty of people attend Catholic schools due to the relegious aspect, but all I was saying was that De La Salle has an advantage over public schools athletically because they draw from all over. I guess you kind of proved my point. They have kids coming from all over the east bay, as you said. Must be nice.
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:59 am
Re DLS..You still have to take an academic entrance exam to get into DLS. Know plenty of good student athletes with exceptional grades who did not make it in. The big thing at DLS it’s a disciplined school environment and the kids that play sports are willing to work hard to succeed on and off the playing field.
October 3rd, 2011 at 10:29 am
I know about the tests and high standards and all that. That is not the issue. I’ll never say another word about it as soon as the De La supporters admit that they have and advantage over public schools due to the fact that they pull kids from all over. I don’t care about Moreau or tests or the fact that kids want to go their because of their relegion. All of that means nothing to me. I’m not even saying they recruit or anything like that. All I am talking about is the advantages a private school can have because they don’t have to “play the hand they are dealt” as far as talent each year like the public schools do. This isn’t a complaint either, just a fact.
October 3rd, 2011 at 10:54 am
dls is a talented unit
u beat them by isolating the weak point
which are the db
as for the veer option take away the option
blitz the cb take the rb out every time hit him everytime with or without the ball
send ur best player at their best player
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:48 am
QUESTION 4ANY ONE
do you take talent over technique
b4 u answer note that ur technique comes from a talented player
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:05 pm
Chalktalk. You are a genious! So thats what every team in Nor Cal has been doing wrong all these years. Hopefully one of these public school coaches will hire you as a D coaching specialist! Hahahaahhahahaha. Look out Spartans. Secret is out!

@teehee
thanks for bringing that up that was so nice of u, i was at all 3, but at least dixon is n the league
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:49 pm
Thank you Chalktalk!! I can’t believe that no other coach has come up with this amazing game plan. YES!! Tackle the pitch man every time!! Blitz that corner and kill the RB, of course!! Now you just have to stop the dive, qb keep play action pass, oh and lets not forget the receiver that is now wide open because the guy that was covering him just tackled the pitch man. I thought you were onto something, but now that I look a little further, I guess not. How exactly do you isolate their db’s as well. I guess if you just hitem in the mouth all else will take care of itself.
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:50 pm
Chalktalk. Responding to you is not even worth my time anymore.
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:50 pm
panther- you might get some agreement on your point from DLS/private school backers IF you would admit there are public school advantages: zero tuition, usually better facilities, can groom the pop warner teams, larger enrollment, no entrance exams, etc.
It goes both ways.
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:51 pm
technique, talent- both are important.

DONT B A FOOL AND LET SOMEONE BIGGER AND STRONGER THEN U PUNCH U N THE FACE REPEATEDLY
I KNOW THIS GAME U CATCH UP GENIUS!!!! GO AROUND THE WALL
October 3rd, 2011 at 1:21 pm
Chalk talk- If all de la salle ran was option every play.. that game plan would work.. However, Its risky and it would almost be like a guessing game… running a 3-3-5 or a 3-5-3 whatever you want to call it.. That defense has a better chance against that offense. because you have 3 players on each side of the defense to take the dive qb and pitch… You have the DE lined up on the tackle.. thats the player they should be reading… then you have the OLB that is five yards behind the DE that will take the dive.. and then you have the free safety at the line of scrimage that will be right there to take the pitch.. Boom! there you have it
October 3rd, 2011 at 1:35 pm
Chalk, if you know this game so well and it is so easy to stop their offense, how come noone in Northern California has done it for about 50 years?? Maybe you should host a clinic with your wealth of veer knowledge. I am sure that all of the other coaches around who are just good guys who get punched in the face and take it would love to have this info. PS does the secondary count out loud so they all know when it has been 2 seconds? Also, when it switches to man to man and you have brought 8, who covers the backs, or the 4th wideout? hmmmmmmm
October 3rd, 2011 at 1:35 pm

u dont have all those option when the DB blitz
he is in the back flied about as fast as a field goal block
did u see c-wood on greenbay how about 43 for pitt
the timing of the flow is what u fail 2 realize
COACH DONT B 2 SCARED 2 B SUCCESSFUL
if u guard everything u end up guarding nothing
WHO GOT THE FLAT WHO GOT 4WR R U SOME TYPE OF NUT

and fear alone mite make u not want 2 run that play again u start doubting the coach and his play calling
ur hand start swelling from all the contact u start looking 2 c whose coming and were r they coming from
ILL ASK AGAIN HAVE U PLAYED THE GAME!!!!!!!
October 3rd, 2011 at 2:35 pm
Chalk talk.. I dont completely disagree with you..
If both of you guys have watched De La Salle they never run option in a 4 wr set.. its always been in split backs formation. You guys are talking about defending the option but then your talking about defending the pass with 4 wrs.. its pretty obvious what they are going to do with 4 wrs.. they never run option with 4 wr set.. its either a designed pass or run play..
De La Salle offense is a combination of a: “One back offense, and a pro style triple option/veer option” Thats what they do straight up based on facts.
I remember when the Comcast news broadcasters interviewed ladocuer before the one of the CIF games and they asked him about the offense philosophy at de la salle.. and lad said that they have Tons of formations, and some that they dont always use the same ones every year. Some formations never get used until the next season. Its amazing that they have only so many formations yet they have the same success..
October 3rd, 2011 at 2:43 pm
BVAL EXPERT
i know how2 stop the option which seems 2 be their bread n butter BUT PAIN STOP THE BIGGEST BADDEST DUDES
STUB UR TOE C DONT THAT STOP U N UR TRACKS LOL
October 3rd, 2011 at 2:45 pm
For example: DLS can add and stick with 16 formations the whole season.. but in reality they have like 32 formations to chose from.
October 3rd, 2011 at 3:02 pm
Yea mentally its easy to stop the option when you think about it… but its the doing part that people cant do..
For example: De La Salle loves to hand it off to the dive because the play side tackle will block the play side linebacker every option play..We know that the play side linebacker has the Dive responsibility, however it makes things 1000000000000000000000 times difficult if you have a blocker coming at you full speed on every option play. Thats why you see Houtousn giving the ball alot and not running with it.. because they will have more success giving the ball..

THE ROLLING START IS COMING HIT EVERYTHING MOVING
RIGHT NOW DONT LET THAT BOULDER START COMING DOWN HILL
i see all these kids stand waiting to get block blow the olines legs out c how many times the gaint get up off the ground giants like standing and looking down on people
October 3rd, 2011 at 3:47 pm
I agree with everything except the choping at the legs.. what happens if its a pass play?…
A good way to teach DE’s to reduce space for the QB/RB is teach the DE to aim for the middle off the mesh point between the qb/rb.. tell the DE to aim his helmet right in the middle of the QB/RB mesh.. its hard to explain on here but thats how eliminate space.. in the whole goal is to make the QB make is own decision and not based on what the DE reacts.. its hard to explain on here.. but thats how you do it.. if you aim in the middle.. you are not fully committing to RB nor are you fully committing to the QB.. you are contacting both at the same time.. This confuses the QB.. making the wrong decisions, fumbling, etc… However it has to be fast reaction of the DE or else it wont work
October 3rd, 2011 at 4:24 pm
BELIEVE ME I UNDERSTAND WHAT UR SAYING
IF THE DE CRASHES QB PITCH BUT THE CB IS COMING
THERE A PILE N THE MIDDLE CUZ WE CHOPPED EVERYONE
question do they do the rolling start when they pass
u dont like chopping thats cool
there’s no such thing as a fair fight

wow this is so funny im loving it though, talking football is fun, i have read some good points but panther4 i really dont c dls goin with the 4 wr set much and especially doin the option out of that
chalktalk
i think i get what ur really saying, play assignment d vs the option and no matter what the do hit them n the mouth, that is how u take out a bully
bval expert
good point bout the de
if u want to beat dls u have to match the coaching, work ethic that starts n december not august as a team and staff, coach the fundamentals, discipline and execute. dls dont run a whole lot of things on both sides of the ball u know what they go do, they just excute and play so hard as a team
October 3rd, 2011 at 7:44 pm
OK Panther 4, here’s my point. DLS gets students from all over- 1000 to be exact. Logan and BHS get 2000 male students from all over their area, BHS from Oakland, El Cerrito, etc. Logan from all over the HAAL. That’s 2000 vs. 1000. Now the stats are how many of those males play sports? DLS was at 50-60 % at one time. Not sure of BHS and Logan, but it must be fairly close- Logan had close to 100 on track several years back, if kids aren’t coming out, then get some organization and parental involvement for those who have the capabilites. School is FREE, it shouldn’t be an economical issue if the parent(s) are raising the kids right.
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:03 pm
Good point on Logan & B-High. Logan really doesn’t get very good athletes atleast prior to this year. Difference in B-HIgh & DLS is B-High has kids that live in Berkeley & HAVE to attend Berkeley. DLS you have to I’m sure pass a test & pay. Different dynamic. Your gonna get kids with better work ethics & more willing to do everything Coaches want cause they pay to attend DLS & pass a test to attend. They’re gona be at all the off-season stuff & weightrooms & I’m sure that parents are making sure also.
B-High is getting the kids from the neighborhood that may not have those same ethics. A lot of kids probably fom single parent families. Its a lot harder. They pasted no test to attend B-High. They don’t pay every year. That rolls into a good portion of football players. Not all Ricky Galvin I heard was a very motivated player I’m sure there are others. Just my opinion.
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:27 pm
I’m so tired of the “Logan has 2000 students, they should be better than they are” argument. Go walk the campus sometime. Things have changed there is the last 15 years. Average logan male is filipino/asian and 5’4″, buck thirty soaking wet. The pool of potential football players is FAAAARRRRRR less than Berkeley and even De La Salle for that matter.
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:39 pm
Chalk talk- I think the choping at the legs is a good idea on run plays no doubt.. Thats the way to attack bigger lineman..
What you can do is stunt (3-5-3 defense) the Play side outside linebacker switching responsibilities with the DE… OLB having the QB as soon as he sees the qb meshing with the rb he should automatically run to the line of scrimmage but at a angle waiting for the QB to keep it, maybe turn up field.. so the play side tackle wont be able to block him because it would be difficult blocking if hes running away from him in an angle. and then you would have that safety at the line of scrimmage that will be take the pitch.. so it would look like
DE-RB
OLB-QB
Safety-Pitch
If you have a really good and smart defense you can switch the responsibilities making it hard for the offense to make their reads
For example:
Saftey- QB
DE-RB
OLB- PItch
But if i was playing against DE LA Salle i would keep it simple
October 4th, 2011 at 11:40 am
@perkin
not sure where you been but logan has had atheletes for a long time, rb jacki crooks c/o 96 went to rutgers roy williams c/o 98 i think went to oklahoma nfl, nate robinson u of washington nba thats just to name aa few, logan has over 4000, they get kids from all over but what i hear is that it is much harder to get now if u dont live in the district
@logan alum
ur right logan doesnt have the many of big kids they used to like angelo jeffrey big paul driver c/o 95 but i think the coaches are doing well with the kids they are gettin now
