Former Foothill High kicker James Langford will bypass his scholarship at Cal Poly to try and walk on as a transfer at Cal.
As a Mustangs sophomore this past season, Langford was 15 for 20 in field goals in the Great West Conference, with one blocked, and was 41 of 42 in PATs.
Langford was known for his last-minute 57-yard field goal in the high school Holiday Classic All-Star game in Sacramento to send the game to overtime, and was highly recruited by a number of Pac-12 schools coming out of Foothill.
Langford will have to sit out a year, but will be able to participate in spring ball for the Bears. He will then have two years to play.

I wish him all the luck in the world. It has to be tough to give up a scholarship to a good school like SLO and try to walk on somewhere else while paying the freight. But to get a chance to play at a Pac-12 school like Cal is a dream, and I’m sure Tedford has shown a big interest in him as he wouldn’t just show up. It will be great watching him play on Saturdays. Their present kicker Tavecchio (a senior) is also a local kid from Campo. Great to see local products playing for the Bears.

He’s going to walk on to a Rose Bowl team. Great move.

BTW – Good luck to the Kid. A funny thing happens when you don’t try to pursue & achieve your goals, you don’t!

Given the young man’s track record, if he has a connection via 1) legacy, or 2) someone like Doug Brien (Cal alum and kicking guru), the credibility is there. Talent + connections + GPA = strong opportunity.
I wish him the best.
And ‘Oh Boy’ #3, good luck with that Rose Bowl thing…not gonna happen, sorry dude. How many years has it been? Maybe you meant the parade…DOH!
