The Miramonte-Dougherty game tomorrow night is a big one. The Mats can either virtually clinch the DFAL title with a win to go 2 games up on DV, or the Wildcats can move into a tie for first place at 8-1 with 3 games to go for each team.
If both teams end up at 11-1, the DFAL bylaws state that the winner of the 2nd round game between the 2 (Tomorrow’s game) would be the winner for NCS automatic bid and home court advantage purposes. So this game is pretty much for all the marbles, but for the Mats it is also to keep their undefeated season alive.

St. Mary’s could be underrated.
1. They just got their best player, Gabby Green, back from injury
2. They hung one on Berkeley WITHOUT her
3. They just beat an excellent rival in Salesian
4. Are there 4 better teams in the East Bay?

I saw St. Marys play early in the preseason against Carondelet, and they looked bad. Carondelet won by about 45 points, and it was clear they missed Gabby. They have really made some huge strides since that game, and with Gabby back, they can play with any team. I would still have a hard time picking them over Carondelet or BOD, but they also beat Dougherty without Gabby, having first lost to them in the Foundation game/scrimmage. We should know more about Miramonte after tonight’s game.
SM is the team to beat in D4 and won’t be facing any of those other teams in the top 15 again this year except Salesian. It has no doubt helped out the development of the other players to have had to compete without Gabby for much of the season, and they are rolling now.
