Hey GetReal, no offense to Marin teams intended, it just looks like as a whole the league is a couple notches below the East Bay teams. I know Drake has a great program and another excellent team, and I love the way they run their offense, gives more talented teams fits.

Girls. Before you get all carried away…check your stat sheets. However poor the MCAL may be…Drake already defeated Campo back on the 3/17. Likewise Logan…who is rated well below Campo.
Soon Campo heads to the Bellarmine Trny which is no place to fatten a win-loss record. Just a word to those who can hear.

I thought Cal looked like a very good team. Well balanced and athletic. To me they looked like the second best team in the EBAL.

The Wolves solidified their ranking alright with a 3-0 loss to Amador. Amador played steady defense to turn back the Wolves with solid blocking and digging. The Wolves made a few unforced errors and never got the passing or setting steady enough to create an offense. The SRV/Cal/Amador matches should be fun ones to watch the rest of the season.

I wasn’t saying SRV’s win over Cal was a fluke, as it was a hard fought, deserved victory. But just pointing out that Cal was playing on the road without arguably their best player and still almost pulled out the win, to help validate what Matt was saying above. There is still a lot of volleyball to be played and rankings will not be based on 1 or 2 matches. Good luck vs. AV tomorrow.

SRV’s ranking should solidify after Tuesday’s match against Amador. They’ve only lost so far against DLS, CP and Deer Valley, and the CP loss was their first match of the season and the coach very much was experimenting with the line-up. The win over Cal was not a fluke, and if SRV beats Amador, should rightly be placed over Cal and Amador, and potentially CP. Roles are starting to settle down at SRV, though some changes could make them an even better team.

Haha, they played in the JV tournament? I wonder what else could be behind that, I remember them having a great team a couple years ago when they took down Campo to win D II. Marin Catholic has a lot of talent, or at least they have one guy who could play in college, but they just don’t seem to have much fire. El Molino hustles but they just don’t have the athleticism to compete with top teams, and the rest of the Marin teams just didn’t look very good.

Re Jeffrey: you are correct. MCAL teams don’t look strong at all. I guess that is why Drake varsity cancelled Deer Valley Tournament and played in the Marin Catholic JV tournament. The last time I heard that Drake doesn’t have a JV and was surprised to see Drake listed in the JV tournament last Saturday.

Cal beating AV in 4 on the road was a big win last week. AV is a good team. Cal’s loss to SRV the prior week was without their starting libero and was at SRV, and they only lost 15-12 in the 5th set. They should be favored in the SRV rematch at full strength at home in a few weeks.

Were you at Norcal No. 1 Matt? Dougherty Valley looked shaky against suspect competition, as did Kennedy. Most of the teams there were from MCAL and did not look very strong compared to the East Bay.
