Ben, it looks like you have Cal & Newark’s records reversed. I thought Dougherty might get past SRV this week, but both are very good teams and within an eyelash of each other.
April 30th, 2012 at 8:07 pm
Salesian and St Mary’s should not be ranked, neither have any quality wins and that Bay Shore league is very weak. Logan should fall out as well.
April 30th, 2012 at 8:11 pm
Cal beat Newark then I heard they found out Cal cheated and now it’s a forfeight win for Newark Memorial. Is that true?
April 30th, 2012 at 9:38 pm
Prep Fan, thanks. I fixed em.

Well, I spent the entire FB season propping up the Pride but I do agree with Tom Frank, neither Salesian nor St. Mary’s is top 15. The Pride is good, senior dominated, but probably does not have the horses on the mound to compete with the bigger schools in the East Bay. We lost to El Cerrito and Encinal, neither of which even got a single vote though they are both solid teams.
However, as for having no quality wins, that is not true. Anytime you beat a D1 bound ace such as Flemer it should count as a quality win. The guy had only given up two runs in 37 innings all season but the Pride roughed him up for six last week.

Cal did beat Newark on the field, at Newark. They had a player that was temporarily ineligible due to a paperwork issue, and was shortly cleared up and the player has been eligible ever since. So I guess if you want to call that cheating, then yeah they cheated. As far as the strength of the teams though, if the teams were to play again today, that player is eligible and the records of each team may be a little bit deceiving. Newark gets the win in the books though and is a solid team, especially with Flexen on the bump.
I saw where SRV lost to Liberty yesterday 4-2. With Foothill and DLS looming on their schedule this week, I question why they scheduled it, as they knew they would need all their top pitchers to deal with the league games. That doesn’t explain why they only got 2 runs, but they also played Pitt on Saturday. At least some of their 2nd line hurlers are getting some game action.

Things are getting more interesting in the DFAL. Acalanes blanked recently announced #10 in CA Campolindo 5-0 tonight. Dons pitcher Mirkin shut down Campo. Great win for Acalanes. They hit Marvel, who did not have his best game, and got help from an early error.
May 1st, 2012 at 8:11 pm
Salesian should be ranked higher that DLS.
May 1st, 2012 at 10:49 pm
Great win for Acalanes over #1 Campo. Does that put Dougherty in sole possession of first place? Wow!
Paul Blackburn of Heritage tossed a no-hitter tonight against #2 Deer Valley, facing the minimum 21 batters. He walked 2, but both were erased via double plays as the Patriots won 6-0.
#3 DLS was also no-hit a couple of weeks ago by St. Francis. They face a stiff test this week with road games at Monte Vista tomorrow night and #4 SRV Friday night. If they can get by both, they’ll stake a claim to possibly move to the top of the polls.

Prep Fan. I didn’t say Cal cheated. Read my post. I heard they cheated and asked if it was true. Sounds like you know the story and cleared it up. Slow your role boy.
Now on to the field. Gotta love the races in the EBAL and DFAL. Great stuff!
May 2nd, 2012 at 12:54 pm
3 of the top 5 teams have lost a game already this week. Gotta love it! Is it too late to take the top 6 teams from D1 and the top 6 from D2 and make that an open Division NCS Playoff. That would be special. Too many divisions so the top teams don’t play.
Think about how that bracket would look. Of course Campo is a natural D3 and Acalanes is D3 and we’d want to include them.
May 2nd, 2012 at 1:37 pm
Dougherty Valley could control their own destiny by winning rest of the league games, but that remaining group includes Acalanes and Campo. Should be exciting.
May 2nd, 2012 at 10:26 pm
Whole lotta shakin goin on…top 4 have all lost a recent league game, SRV with 2 Ls. Spartans, with the chance to jump to #1, fall hard against MV, with the Wolves up next on Friday. Predictably, strong league games (especially in the tough DFAL/EBAL corridor) continue the movement.
May 3rd, 2012 at 12:09 am
Charlie, I was just thinking out loud on the cheating comment, not meaning that you felt it was cheating. I was agreeing that it could be called that if one wanted to. But the term cheating implies Cal knew the player was ineligible and tried to get away with him playing anyway. I suspect they found out after the game and wouldn’t have played him had they known his paperwork hadn’t been cleared yet. It seems to happen just about every year in various sports, Salesian forfeiting a bunch of games in basketball last year comes to mind over a similar issue. They have accepted their penalty and have moved on.

It is looking like the class of the BSAL in baseball is Encinal again. With wins over St Marys, Salesian and Piedmont. But the league is very top heavy… BSAL playoffs should be interesting to watch.
May 3rd, 2012 at 10:57 am
Acalanes, winners of the Willie Stargell Classic is very good. BSAL and DFAL are proving to be very similar especially at the top. What happened with Alhambra? Dor Valley, Miramonte very good baseball teams?
May 3rd, 2012 at 12:39 pm
That’s wild that the top 4 teams have all lost a game in the past week. The races in the DFAL, EBAL & BVAL have all heated up as a result.
Dougherty has a 1 game lead in the DFAL, but still plays both Acalanes and Campo. A lot could happen there.
Deer Valley has a 1 game lead in the BVAL, but still plays 2nd place Heritage who just beat them. Expect Blackburn to pitch that one as well.
DLS, SRV & Cal are once again tied atop the EBAL standings with MV’s win over the Spartans, as SRV beat Foothill & Cal beat Livermore yesterday. SRV and Cal have already played twice, while DLS still has both on the schedule, and must play both on the road the second time around. Tomorrow’s DLS-SRV game is huge and should be a good one.
May 3rd, 2012 at 2:43 pm
re:15 Encinal, class of the mediocre league???? They have also been shut out by St Mary’s, lost to Piedmont and still have to play Salesian. They need to learn to play defense before the word class can used in the same sentence.
May 3rd, 2012 at 3:15 pm
The BSAL regular season title and #1 playoff seeding is on the line Friday in Richmond. Encincal and Salesian both with two losses, St. Mary’s out of it with four. The seeding is key though, no one wants to see Flemer in the first round. Should be a good battle.
May 3rd, 2012 at 8:31 pm
With Dougherty Valley winning today at home against Acalanes, 5-3, they are poised to move to the top spot in the rankings with one caveat; if #10 state ranked Campolindo beats #6 state ranked Clovis West at the Coliseum Saturday, I would think Campo keeps the top spot. After a 20-8 pasting of Petaluma today, Campo appears to be ready.
Next Thursday Campo travels to DV with the DFAL championship and the #1 seed for the D2 playoffs likely going to the winner.
May 4th, 2012 at 7:15 am
Campo is good. Dogerty vallery is good. Looking at the schedule I see they play at Dogerty valley next Thursday. I’ll be there with bells on.
May 4th, 2012 at 9:31 am
Tom Frank, you just gave a very good description of top heavy. Which I stated previously. Thanks little fella.
May 4th, 2012 at 9:35 am
Encinal beat St.Mary’s on Weds, and play Salesian today. How dare you say “the word class can used in the same sentence”. They’re back to back league champions. You just sound ignorant.
May 4th, 2012 at 9:38 am
Not to mention they’re lefty stud who’s batting .458, missed the game.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:05 pm
Play some defense and beat a good team, then pop off.
May 4th, 2012 at 12:59 pm
.450 in the BSAL = .225 in EBAL and DVAL
May 4th, 2012 at 1:18 pm
Tom Frank, you seem angry. I have no beef dude. I really wasnt popping off either. But you need to chill. You sure are being a hater though big time! Whatever keep crowning EBAL because you said so
May 4th, 2012 at 2:13 pm
It’s pathetic that in your ultra-sensitive and unrealistic world, reality equals hate. Do all the teams in the BSAL get a trophy?
May 4th, 2012 at 7:15 pm
Who won the Encinal-Salesian game?
May 4th, 2012 at 9:26 pm
Tom sucks!!! Salesian is better than any Ebal team in all 3 sports baseball, basketball, and football.
May 4th, 2012 at 10:36 pm
Salesian – I know this is way over your head but, Who is John Swett?
May 4th, 2012 at 11:30 pm
bsal has a few really good players on a couple teams
May 5th, 2012 at 8:52 am
Tom is the biggest sore loser. He knows that Salesian is the best on the mound, court and the field. Ebal is weak.

Sale1……gotta love your enthusiasm. If you ever need work, word is that both the easter bunny and the tooth fairy are hiring.
May 5th, 2012 at 10:20 pm
Concrete your more pathetic than Tom. Salesian is too good foe Ebal!!! 250+ men @ Salesian can compete with Ebal boys. You are a TRUE HATER!!!!
May 6th, 2012 at 1:11 pm
This thread has really deteriorated. With top 6 teams Campo, DLS, SRV & Cal all losing games this weekend, it opens the door for Deer & Dougherty Valley to possibly move up even further. DLS, & the 2 DV schools each have 1-game leads heading into the final 2 weeks of the season. All teams have shown to be beatable this year, so the playoffs could be very interesting.

Ouch!….to paraphrase that great orator FogHorn LegHorn….son ah say, ah say, ah have been explosed!
Hate Salesian, hate Salseian’s successes…..hardly, my leetle rookie friend. In fact I admire what they have/are achieving with such a small student body. Many of my son’s grade school mates went to Salesian and two of our family friends work at Salesian.
Gotta love a homer. But what always brings a smile and chuckle with Sale-1′s posts are no matter what he discusses or defends with regards to Salesian is he almost always finishes up with a shot at the Ebal and/or DLS. Looks like he wants to be Salesian’s “Mountain John” or Ralph Barbieri……..but then what’s heavy traffic without someone constantly blowing their horn?
In my business if I was a “TRUE HATER” I would send a crew to your house on Saturday morning, jack hammer out your driveway approach and front sidewalk, set barricades and not return for a couple weeks.
Apologies Prep Fan for contributing to the deterioration. You are right that the playoffs will be fun to watch depending on who comes to play on any given day.

Concrete is a ignorant and ill-educated moron!!! He doesn’t know how to write. Where did you go to college? DVC!!!! Loser

Deer Valley is too high in the poll. They have ZERO big time wins.
