Granada soccer player commits to Sacramento State

Granada High junior Rachel Leonard has become the first player from Livermore’s West Coast Soccer Club to earn a scholarship with a Division I school. Leonard recently orally committed to Sacramento State.

The West Coast Soccer Club is headed by Livermore High graduate Troy Dayak, a member of the San Jose Earthquakes Hall of Fame and a 1992 U.S. Olympian.

Dayak says he saw potential in Leonard back when she was an under-9 youth player because of her speed, passing and shooting abilities. He expects Leonard, a natural wing player, to be the first of many West Coast players to move to college play.

The current Hornets roster includes goalkeeper Shelby Tomasello (California High, Ohlone) and midfielder Jessica Castano (Washington).
