I can confirm that Ward did resign at Cal High after 3 successful seasons at the helm. The wide sphere of parental influence in high school athletics isn't limited to just the Lamorinda area.

As far as Campo stepping up their schedule next year, they played as tough a schedule last year as anyone in NorCal. While it great to see them again playing a tough schedule, it would be nice to see them play more east bay area top D1 programs, or better yet petition up to D1 as they've won D2 3 years in a row now and with Dougherty moving up, it doesn't appear they'll be challenged in the postseason next year either. It is great to see DLS on their schedule, but a postseason challenge would be even better. Their apparently aren't many "outstanding" pitchers to challenge them in D2.

It appears as if Campo will step up their schedule next year with potential games against Serra, St. Francis, and De La Salle early in the season. Also, it appears as if the EBAL will be playing some of the top DFAL teams next year as well. With Acalanes, Dougherty Valley, and Campolindo each returning their respective top two starters for next season it should be another strong year for the upper tier of the DFAL.

Anyone else hear California High coach Dan Ward "resigned" as varsity head baseball coach after taking his team to the brink of it's first ever NCS D1 title? Can't confirm, but thats the word on the street in San Ramon. If it's true a big loss with a somewhat young team coming back next year.

Cal played @ Campo as frosh in '09 and the Cougars won that 4-3. Only four Grizzlies remained from that 20-4 frosh squad on the team playing in the Coliseum Saturday as seniors this year , Peter, Farley, Johnson and Tu. Peter and Johnson had two of the five hits at the Coliseum, while Farley scored the first run and finished playoffs with a .800 SLG and 2.23 OPS (4-7, 7 BBs, HBP.) DLS got two hits in their 3-2 W. One was misplayed into a triple, scored on a SF and the other was with IF in, could've been scored either way, and the two runners scoring on that were walked. Agree Campo was top EB team this year. With 11 hits in the final they looked very good despite some errors.

Chuck, the EBAL has no beef with Dougherty Valley, and it will be nice to have them in D1 next year. Not sure where the step-child comment came from. From the games I saw and their victory over Campo, they deserved the #3 ranking.

Why would EBAL people be "butt hurt" about Campo being #1? They were clearly the top team. Just as Logan was last season. Neither were EBAL teams. Just because people want to see Campo play some local D1 teams doesn't mean they are somehow hurt that they have an "outstanding" team.

And you are also wrong about Campo being forced to move up to D1 next year, as that NCS rule was changed prior to this year. As I stated earlier, I would like to see them petition up to D1, as they have nothing more to prove in D2. And the reason I would like to see them schedule some top local D1 teams if they don't petition up is so we can see how they would do agains the bigger schools, not because I think all the EBAL teams would beat them. It doesn't have to be EBAL teams, except that 6 of the top 15 happen to be from the EBAL.

Bishop O'Dowd is a smaller school than Campo and they have played D1 for years.
