San Leandro High star sprinter Andre McBride has signed a letter-of-intent with Washington State.
McBride placed in two events in last weekend’s California Interscholastic Federation state championships. He was second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.60 (wind-aided) and placed sixth in the 200 (21.62 wind-aided). His fastest wind-legal times in those events this season were 10.52 and 21.21.
McBride said that he signed with Washington State on May 24.
“I went up there and I met some of the athletes and I also did some research,” McBride said. “I was looking at the times of the athletes, what they were running.”
In early May, McBride made a verbal commitment to Cal. But a visit to Washington State on May 13 helped change his mind, along with a better scholarship offer.
“I won’t have that many distractions, and I wanted to go out of state, so it seemed like a good fit,” McBride said.
He also considered Sacramento State before finally choosing the Cougars. McBride also played football at San Leandro, but he said that he will just be competing in track in Pullman.

Anyone know entrants for Golden West this weekend? Their site doesn’t have them yet- the deadline was Sun. 6/3.
Hope some NCS/East Bay kids entered- another chance to lower PR’s or satisfy disappointments at the state meet. GW is not what it used to be, being invited, you invite yourself now if your qualifying times meet the standards. Nevertheless, you get to compete again and against out of state talent.
Some national records and all-time records for NCS/State have been set at GW.

McBride entered in both sprints- some serious speed coming out of Texas to Sac Town for this meet and I mean serious- 10.21, 20.5 and 45.2.
Where are the other East Bay runners?
This is how you get your times down to National considerations?
Don’t tell me graduations. Grad on stage with your track uniform on if necessary- the drive is only 1 hr. from the Bay. The deadline was last Sunday June 3rd. Heat sheets are available on the Golden West Invitational web site.
This was the fastest meet in the country for years.

Did Kennedy-hurdler Walker enter GW- he had some of the fastest times in the state- very quick hurdle field- time to make amends- is he running?

Is the EBAL PVaulter entered at GW- no heighted at state finals- very good field in Sacto. Good chance to showcase nationally if injuries don’t prevent.

OK, here we go! Kennedy hurdler in in highs- 2nd fastest in race. SL sprinter in both sprints 100-200. Kennedy sprinter in 100. Frazier in HJ, no PV entry. Trinity Wilson and several NCS and SacQ leaders all in hurdles. WOW! Texas has brought some real sprint heat.

    Golden West Results

Locals- Kennedy hurdler and sprinter did not run.
Probably for the best- HH winning time 13.32 and 100 time 10.27- 200 time 20.49.
Overall, very poor participation for the East Bay.
Trinity Wilson is back! She won in 13.30.
