Freedom heads to national 7-on-7 tournament

By Ben Enos

The Freedom High football team is headed for some hot weather this week, as it will compete in the ninth-annual NFL HSPD National 7-on-7 Tournament in Indianapolis from July 12-14.

The Falcons won a regional qualifier to earn the spot in Indianapolis, and will represent the Oakland Raiders at the competition. Each NFL team will be represented at the camp.

Freedom won’t lack for talent when it gets to Indy, led by QB Dante Mayes and WR/LB Darrell Daniels. Mayes is garnering significant Division I interest, and Daniels has committed to Washington.

American Canyon, Clayton Valley, and Antioch were the top teams at the Battle of the Bay Camp

AC dominated defensively, offense was so so
Clayton offense looked VERY good, defense wasnt that good
Antioch looked decent but not DOMINANT on both sides of the ball

College Park lost key seniors, they are going to need to step it up. Took a beating from NHS at SMC Camp… Embarrassing # Never underestimate Coach Kepler

Congrats to Freedom and best of luck in their tournament. What do people think about the BVAL this year? Curious.

  • The Ghost

I’ve seen quite a few of these 7 on 7 contests and must say that Foothill looks very solid!

They have not been beaten (21-0)including three games against SRV, two games against Cal, Amador, Livermore and Granada. No DLS or MV.

Very impressive skill positions … should be a great season for the boys from Pleasanton!

Hey DVAL watcher, which smc were you watching, I saw College Park beating Freedom and won despite losing there QB!!

  • DVAL Watcher

    Salido #DontbeaKnock
After SMC and this past weekends DVC PL (Breann, Benecia, & Berkeley) do you think at this point with games starting in what 5 weeks this teams ready to repeat DVAL Champions?? Come on, man! Look I’m a BIG believer in Coach Kepler so, if anyone can do it he can. Just saying ya lost a lot of Senior playmakers and gonna need kids to step up and fill those shoes. Hey, ya following Chase Danska? Kids taken it to the next level! Doin CP Proud! What do ya think about Clayton Valley puttin Pitt on their schedule ?? Either its brillant or seriously stupid. Interesting…changes at CV. #Chillknock

    top d1 teams.

  • MiraMan

Give me some color on your rankings. OK, DLS #1 and Logan #2. But why Cal at #3 ahead of Freedom? Why Berkeley so high? I saw some Berkeley vs Miramonte at Skyline last week and Mirmonte went toe-to-toe with them. I think SL and O’Dowd both beat Berkeley in WAC-Foothill this year.

Who is the quarterback at Foothill?

by the way. how did freedom do in the national tournament?

  • Prep Fan

Freedom made it to the round of 16, but lost 28-10 to Horizon out of Colorado, representing the Broncos.

It looks like there are several national 7 on 7 tournaments, such as this one by Under Armour in which the finals are next week:

I’m not sure why this didn’t get posted yesterday:
