Seven local baseball players sign with Cal State East Bay

Cal State East Bay announced the signing of nine baseball players Thursday, including seven with East Bay ties.
Included in that list were three Bishop O’Dowd High graduates. Bryan Mason, Marcus Williams and John Tierney are all headed to the university. Las Lomas graduate Jake Villa and Alameda grad David Elzig are also going to be Pioneers.
Cal State East Bay also signed three junior college players, including Cory Hearne (Laney) and Roger Luna (Los Medanos). Other players headed to the university include Mike Jenkerson of Willow Glen-San Jose and Eren Miravalles of Canada College.
Mason was a first-team all-Hayward Area Athletic League selection. Williams and Tierney were second-team all-HAAL picks. Villa was a first-team all-Diablo Foothill Athletic League selection, and Elzig was the co-Most Valuable Player in the Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League.
Hearne ranked third in the Bay Valley Conference with a .372 batting average and also scored 15 runs last season. Luna ranked third in the BVC with 32 RBI and also batted .348 with 25 runs scored.

As a CSUH Alum I want to wish good luck to there incomming Pioneers. It’s too bad that this will probally be the last time their names appear in a Bay Area Newsgroup paper since the BANG does not cover any sports at Cal State.

There’s sports at CS East Bay? I thought it was just club teams.
