Very good lineup!
Buhach Colony has lost most of last year's MONSTER line and has a new QB. Although their MaxPreps 33.7 power rating seems too low, I doubt the Thunder will be the team they were last year. SR has lots of top athletes and could be better than last year if their defense comes through.
Bellarmine has only 4 guys returning as starters and nobody at QB to the likes of Tim McHue. The Bells' JVs did go 8-1-1 playing in the rugged WCAL last year so they should have a strong bench and some starters from that team. Although their MaxPreps Preseason power rating of 49.5 seems generous, Bellarmine is always competitive against top teams. (And they're playing at home. And against a team they felt they should have beat last year.) DLS, besides the 4 super studs on defense everyone knows about, is DE LA SALLE. Some big questions about the Spartan offense though, especially at QB, but again they are DE LA SALLE!
James Logan has it all to go all the way to Carson if they put it together this year, especially against the "good" teams.(The Logan-SR match Sept. 7 may be a better one than SR vs. Buhach Colony.)If Del Oro is anywhere near their MaxPreps 51.2 preseason power rating, this game will say a lot as to what the Colts will accomplish this year. If you've seen Del Oro play in recent years, I think you'd agree the Golden Eagles are one of the best coached in the state. Last years' QB, one of the best rollout passers I've seen in years, is gone. So is the "power back" half from their stud running back combo. But, Del Oro adjusts during games as well as anybody (that includes a lot of college BCS teams!).
Speaking of Del Oro, although this only involves out of section teams, a drive up the I-80 Frwy to Loomis on Opening Weekend would be well warranted for aficianados of high school football, especially NorCal aficianados! On Aug.24 and 25 Oaks Christian and Westlake are coming north to take on DO and Granite Bay (in that order) at Del Oro High. Both games start at 7:30. The next weekend, Aug.31 and Sept.1, DO and GB switch opponents at Westlake. This really is a big series for NorCal FB, and to some degree, SoCal FB for that matter. Oaks and Westlake got 65.8 and 63.7 preseason power ratings respectively from MaxPreps-Freeman computor (which, this year seems as prejudice against NorCal football as the HS FB chatrooms in the Southland). A good showing by DO and GB and some wins in this series would close a lot of SoCal Bigmouths (for awhile anyway) and maybe cause Freeman's computor to implode. Also, at Del Oro on Friday the 24th at 5pm, Franklin of Elk Grove plays Thousand Oaks, a very good team from the Marmonte West League (same league as Oaks, and TO likes Oaks and Westlake as teams and their fans around here like that "particular" team from Concord). Anyway, a lot of good football for one ticket on Aug. 24. Beware, though. Usually, these early season "football festival" type games are more expensive than regular game admissions. Last year it cost 10 bucks (and no senior discount! Nor band either!) to see SR vs Folsom at DVC.

SRV-fOLSOM Game shud be closer than last year. Last year's game was a good one too. I believe both teams have more returning on Defense than Offense. However, Folsom has system that is proven no matter who is QB, their "System" works. SRV also is a solid program and worthy opponent.
Berkeley, I am sorry i don't know about that team. Whom have they beaten to gain notice? EBAL/BVAL/NBL/MCAL run the NCS. Until Berkeley plays a known opponent or "Out Of Section" caliber teams. then we will find out if they are real. Wud be nice if they "Upset" Lincoln-Stockton (#1 Ranked Team in the 2nd biggest section in Cal).
Mack & BOD, Most definetly "MusT See" Game! BOD played Franklin-Elk Grove in a good game last year!
How about Marin Catholic-Vacaville Game. The Wildcats beat a young Bulldogs team last year whom are determined to repeat as Div. II SJS Champions!

There are several games I would spend my hard-earned money to see in person. Ben, I see your 3 and give you these:
1. SRV @ Folsom Aug 31 715pm (2 recent state bowl caliber squads face off to establish early NCS/SJS supremacy. Expect a shootout)
2. Mack @ O'Dowd Aug 31 530pm (Athletes on both sides of the ball for crown of best team in Oakland)
3. Lincoln-Stockton @ Berkeley Sept 7 715pm (SJS #1 ranked team at Berkeley's new stadium. Should be a packed house for a physical affair)

@concrete17 and Ben, Maxpreps and Calpreps say that BHigh travels TO Pitt for that Sept 14 game btw.

I think San Ramon Valley will come out of this game on top. BC runs the "Fly Offense" well in the SJS South & Granite Bay runs thee "Fly Offense" to perfection in the SJS North. Funny mentioning Vacaville. I have been waiting for a game between SRV vs Vacaville for a couple years now. SRV played Wood of Vacaville, but Wood was no contest.
DLS may also come out on top. May still be a good game because the QB situation at DLS & alot of players need to be replaced at BCP. But, BCP has a system in which they reload every year.
Del Oro may come out a victor on this one. DO is a very physical & well coached team. They can play against athletic teams such as they did in the State bowl game.
BTW, it's nice to see the NCS Teams schedule Out Of Section Teams.
