I'd like to comment on NCS's decision to give the home field to the higher seed after the 1st round of the FB playoffs this fall. Also, about DLS no longer being eligible for the EBAL football crown.
This is a welcome change (I'm curious to know who the 22 managers that voted NAY were and as to who each was representing).NCS's playoff divisions are predicated by each school's enrollment, although, I believe, a school can petition to be "bumped up". In NCS, there are no league division classifications like in the Southern Section (refered to in the Southland as simply CIF) or to some degree in the Sac Joaquin Section but for football uses a rather complex system for playoff division ratings. Most of the NCS football leagues are division mixed, but the BVAL and the EBAL (except for Livermore, this year)are all D1 schools. I don't think anyone will argue that those 2 leagues are not the 2 toughest ones around here in football. A league winner should always be given a playoff birth, but not an automatic home field advantage when there is a noticible competitive difference among the leagues. Hopefully, NCS will eliminate automatic home field advantage in all the rounds for next year and base it on seeding.
A note about NCS's seeding meetings. I agree that they should be private (back when they even allowed coaches in there, I referred to them as "catfights"), but accurate minutes need to be kept so the public can know the seeding committees' rationale for their decisions. The D1FB seedings seemed very "suspicious" last year.
I have mixed feelings about DLS not being officially in the EBAL football race this Fall. I can understand why the most of the league wants them out, but it wasn't that long ago (2007, I believe) when the Spartans had a similiar relationship with the BVAL, however North Coast more or less "ordered" them to find a league to play football in. The EBAL voted to accept DLS (and Carondolet) as full league members. It seems that the EBAL is being a bit hasty to "throw in the rag". If there's more to this, I'd appreciate being enlightened.
