Bishop O’Dowd defensive back Kevin King orally committed to the University of Washington on Sunday night.
“I felt they showed a lot of interest in me,” King said Monday. “I was talking to them a lot. I felt like they really wanted me.”
King chose Washington over Cal, West Virginia and Arizona State, among others.
“They have a lot of junior and seniors DBs,” King said. “I felt I could definitely be in the running to come in and play early.”
King was a ball hawk for the Dragons last year with a team-high six interceptions. The 6-foot-2, 172-pound King increased his profile over the summer when he was named defensive back MVP of the Nike Football Training Camp at Contra Costa College in July.
“That brought my confidence level up a bit,” King said. “I know I can play with those top guys. It showed me where I was at.”
O’Dowd opens its season Friday at home against Las Lomas at 7 p.m. and King said he wanted to have this decision out of the way before the season started.
“That definitely was a goal of mine,” King said. “I wanted to focus on the season. It’s definitely a big weight lifted off my shoulders.”
