Huge games in the bay area tonight, can’t wait to see how they turn out..

  2. YoMama Says:

better put tia pepe vitale for dela in that elite running back catorgory- 2 tds 153 at the half against ccs champ state finalist bellarmine.

  3. PatriotDad Says:

Heritage 14- Casa Grande 7 3 min left in half

  4. Pitt Alum Says:

    Pitt vs cal score?

  5. concrete17 Says:

    @ Pitt Alum…halftime Cal 27 Pitt 13

  6. BigJoe Says:

Smart move to pull both dls running backs in early third. They play Mullen Colorado next week- ranked 3rd in the state. Another Christian Bros. school.
Let there be no doubt- Bellarmine was predicted to win the wcal this year and are still projected to win 10 or 11.
DLS domiannce of a CCS power like the Bells in the 1st game sets a tone thru out the EB, NorCal and state. DLS is all that is advertised. That game could have been another 14 if starters were not pulled.

  7. spartan fan Says:

    BigJoe,
Only 14? I think the DLS conditioning only kicks in more as the game goes on. Had starters played out of the third quarter it would have been a name your score situation. LIke what I expect this years MV game to be as DLS .

  8. Jack Cates Says:

End of 3rd quarter. Ferndale 36-Del Norte 0

  9. John Smith Says:

    Deer valley @ Rodriguez score?

  10. vic Says:

    EBAL final scores??

  11. Freedom Fan Says:

If foothill plays like they did tonight. They are looking at 3rd from last in the EBAL. Very bad defense. It wasnt expected to give up 41 points.

  12. John Smith Says:

    Deer valley score?

  13. C/O98 Says:

Mt. Eden 17 Richmond 8 final

  14. YoMama Says:

Jack off crates- is Ferney allowed to play any inner-city east bay schools after their fiasco with Mack and Salesian last year ? Heard the NAACP might get involved.

  15. YoMama Says:

what was the encinal score 6-5 in 3rd against aptos doesn’t sound too promising.

  16. Old Former Meddling Coach Says:

YoMama, Encinal 12 Aptos 11 Final.

  17. YoMama Says:

although my god-son played for aptos several yrs back- all confernace at linefield college- div 111 playoffs and sometimes champs almost every year, the rest of the aptos team and program was very suspect. didn’t think they could hang with encinal. how many players for the jets? academic problems? i know you won’t air dirty laundry but lots of rumors/spec out there.

  18. BigDog Says:

SRV Folsom score? How about final mv vs. BHS- BHS has ben whopped last several against mv team that’s average.

  19. C/O98 Says:

Can I get some wacc 12 shoreline finals

  20. Reggie Hammond Says:

linfield is always good. good program. good tradition. same with aptos thats why nail house played them. you know that baby

  21. John_quin Says:

    Deer valley 48 Rodriguez 7

  22. spectator2012 Says:

freedom offense looked good tonight. QB mayes made some great plays to beat foothill. foothill defense is bad. i expected more from the foothill team. it seemed like all the buzz about foothill being real good is all hype. nice bounce back from freedom. let’s see if they can continue the momentum to next friday. good job mayes and the rest of the freedom team.

  23. Prep Fan Says:

Foothill didn’t make the playoffs last year for the first time in about 20 years, and their JV team went 2-8. I don’t know why they were picked so high this year, but Sweeney is a good coach.

  24. Pitt Grunt Says:

Up early to get ready for the Cal-Nevada game but I thought I would report in from the Pitt-Cal game with a Pittsburg point of view. Arrived end of the 1st Q to find Pitt down 14-0 (WTF??) It is going to be a tale of two cities for Pitt this year between the offense and the defense. Good RBs and WRs, as well as play calling that suit the QB’s ability. Not so good on the other side of the ball. Pitt kept fighting back despite the D’s inability to slow down Cal and company. RB Karris plays bigger than his 200lb frame. Very under-rated. Got to give props to Coach Galli for the come back in the 3rd Quarter. Down 27-13 at half, Pitt tied it up 27-27 end of the 3rd Q. Cal followed with a TD and a gutsy onside kick that swung the momentum back to them in the 4th Quarter. Pitt replied with a TD and onside kick of their own. Unfortunately, Pitt could not move the ball.

    Random thoughts:

Pitt QB is a competitor. Threw 2 pics early but seem unfazed and did a great job moving the Pitt offense (except on the last drive). WR Xavier Crawford (only JR) is Pitt’s next great WR. Lockett with another 100 yard performance against a very strong Cal D but cramped up late (again!!). Been hearing a lot of talk in the stands about Pitt’s kicker (yes, that right, a kicker). I understand now. Two FGs in the first half kept Pitt in the game. The 44 yarder into the wind with 15 yard to spare in the final seconds of the first half and the onside kick were impressive. A weapon. I am trying to come up with adjectives to describe Pitt’s D and the only word(s) I can think of is a noun: traffic cone. How many times do you have to get burned with a pass down the middle to the TE, slot WR, old man with a cane, etc., before you make an adjustment??? In fairness to the D staff, the very large man sitting next to me was saying that only 3 starters on D return. Conclusion: Very young and inexperienced D.

Prognosis: Cal is a well coached team that is underrated. The clear cut #2 in the EBAL behind DLS. Pitt is very inexperienced on D but I think will improve as the season moves along. Lots of JRs are playing. Pitt will be in the thick of the BVAL this season.

  25. The Ghost Says:

The Freedom Falcons came to Pleasnton with a gameplan to physically attack the Foothill defense … Mission Accomplished! Foothill was not physical enough on defense, period. Their balanced offense looked effective but three turnovers made for a long evening! Freedom was a different team against amador valley with a more pass centric gameplan … Freedom is a much better running team and should game plan 80% run and 20% pass.

  26. junior Says:

Anyone know what happened to Livermore’s QB Macpherson?

  27. Outsider Says:

Pitt Grunt. That was a very accurate assesment of the game and I was on the Cal side. At the start of the game I thought that Cal was going to run away with it. Pitt came back with some really strong running plays and tied up the game. When Cal got the onside kick I thought it was over again but Pitt came back when the kicker bombed the kickoff into the front line of Cal perfectly. I was thinking the same thing as you, “Pitt has a kicking game?” The game could have gone either way depending on who ended up with the ball at the end.

  28. Bleacher Coach Says:

    YoMama I counter nineteen Helmets.

I asked everyone for a roster no one had one with all the mistakes the new game announcer made my bet he did not have one either. I guess there is no budget for the printing.

Of the 19 player I counter one is a girl #22 she is the kicker.

My over observation of the Jets as a team is that are small in size both physically and roster, their overall team speed is way down, not to say they do not have some players with over the top speed . Corey Sailes is a speed demon but as I said before he is not very big and he carried the Jets on his back last night.

My observation of the last nights game. Both teams are run first which made for very fast game 2 hours 8 minutes . Aptos was running a power/option offense and the Jets ran mostly the Pistol.

Aptos was in control most of the game but once again the Jets penalties helped Aptos out. On one drive a 15 yard face mask then later in that drive someone creamed the kicker for a roughing the kicker call.

The Jets defense came up with some huge stops the one that stands out was a goal line stand in which Aptos could not get in the endzone with 4 try’s inside the 6.

These are not the Jets of the last 4 seasons I think it will be ugly next week for them.

  29. ManDown Says:

The Encinal vs Aptos game was one of the best games I’ve been to in a while. Defensive battle from start to finish. Jets looked very sloppy but Cory Sails is a good ball player. Really small guy but he won that game for the Jets. Watch out for that kid.

  30. Itsabob Says:

Enjoying my breakfast of crow this morning.
Spartans were looking very disciplined vs Bells.I thought the Bells would pull a possible upset.
Spartan O-Line was opening up a 4 lane hwy for the backs. QB Williams is a calm cookie and I am looking forward to his performance over the next two seasons.
The Bells are no slouch of a team no question that they will be on top of the heap by Nov. Spartans now will host Mullen, based on what DLS showed last night Mullen will have its hands full. Good way for Spartans to go into this new week with the focus on Mullen.

  31. dogfan Says:

Alhambra better find a QB soon. He runs scared and everyone knows he doesn’t like to be hit from last year. Running back awesome but once they key on him there done. Gunna be a long year.

  32. George Manley Says:

Dogfan..You are right about Alhambra’s QB Costa..but he’s the man his backup Josh Evans played offensive end and on defense and never took over at QB…Rancho Cotate’s front line on both D/O for the first half contained the Bulldogs…Taylor Poyadue took a beating as the Alhambra line could not open up holes for the running back….And the cougars just about did what they wanted to in the first half…In the second half the Bulldogs finally woke up and played football…but it was too late…RC took a 20-0 lead into the half…another problem for Alhambra was some of the play calling….they kept hitting the right side of RC’s D and this was a waist of time as it didn’t budge and Poyadue was constantly being hit for lose’s. The worst decision was with about four minutes to play…the Bulldogs had just scored and they had to go for a on side kick which backfired…Hugo Paredes with his strong leg is able to kick the ball into the endzone and this is what should have been done as the Bulldog defense was pushing RC’s line around and could have contained them and turned the game around…but in the end RC booted a short FG and RC won 23-14…

  33. BigDog Says:

No pun intended, but did that DLS offensive line no starters back) get recruited out of Pittsburg too?
I know DLS coaches have knocked on doors and taken every first child in Pittsburg over the years, but where did they find the O line who had big holes and no penalities? Could it be the system?
I know, all the DLS bloggers are arrogant and much too prideful. Just some pointers, dismiss that recruiting crap, DLS beat up another private powerhouse who draws from all over the SouthBay- see it’s not just publics.
Anyway, Spartans have their work cut out for them next Friday, for those of you who don’t know, Mullen Denver colorado is also a Christian Bros. school. Bye the way, for you EBALers, the EBAL is happy and it’s a good fit for DLS and CHS in all-sports in the league. The problem is football, it might be fixed within a couple of years according to the experts.

  34. YoMama Says:

Hats off to oak Tech for smacking around Pinole Valley. PV is going to have their hands full in their new league. Hats off to Mack for staying close with ODowd. See I do have some nice things to say about the OAL. What was the final Salesian score?

  35. YoMama Says:

some observations from the last 2 weeks – IN TROUBLE

    1. Hercules
    2. BHS
    3. Moreau
    4. San Leandro
    5. Alhambra
SRV over-rated, but a strong schedule.

  36. mvalfan Says:

Hey Yo mama. i dont think moreau is in that much troule. i just think they are still getting used to the new offense. its a big change from last year, but I do feel that defensively they must get better. LAst night they lost on Sp teams, that sucks right now!!! But i feel like they can rebound the next two weeks heading into league play!

  37. BigJoe Says:

salesian beat middletown 7-3, down 3-0 at half. why would the prideful ex chieftans schedule middletown coming off a 14-0 season and a new league? if you want a state invite shot, got to schedule up a little more than that Chad. I know Middletown has made small playoffs before, but REALLY, you can’t find tougher opponents, however winning only 7-3 might mean the prideballers aren’t wht they were in the past- i thought the bfl days were over?

  38. YoMama Says:

Cal down to Nevada 21-17 4th quarter

  39. George Manley Says:

YoMama….Things won’t get any better for Alhambra next week as they host Cardinal Newman and then vist Maria Carillo….The Bulldogs had one of their key linemen go down in the RC game—-Miguel Lara, but he should be ready for next week…also taylor Poyadue took a big hit but recovered….every body you listed has some issues to overcome andit doesn’t look good for most…

  40. YoMama Says:

    Manley, there are more.

    1. skyline( if they have a season)
    2. St. mary’s Berkeley ( routed by Justin)
    3. SPSV ( No Blanton)
    4. Richmond
    5. Deanza
    6. Mt. Diablo
    7. SLO ( congrats on your win)

  41. Old Former Meddling Coach Says:

Bleacher Coach, I see you are running true to form. Everybody picked us to lose and you can’t give us any credit. The Defense Stepped up and played a great game and while i admit it took a minute to get started the kids never quit. While Sails ran well Hunter and Kerrigan also did a good job. I know quite a few of you want to see my boys fail but trust me when i say they are full of fight and will never quit! If we have 19 or 95 we can only play 11 at a time. See ya in Fairfield next week! Jet Pride!

  42. EBfootball Says:

What’s up with OAL only having 8-9 for half their teams? Forfeits everywhere already or was the schedule made that way?

  43. EBfootball Says:

    @YoMama
The abbreviation for San Lorenzo is SLZ. Please don’t associate the nice little town of San Luis Obispo with that coach’s program.

  44. YoMama Says:

    EB- sorry bout dat!

  45. YoMama Says:

Old Former Meddling- Didn’t want Bleacher Coach opinion- wanted yours- why only 19 suited up?
Also, your Mission Bears got a win over the non-Hercules Titans. Good job. Now don’t tell me Mission was all over Bal in the days. Give me some scores- did they beat Bal? Did Mission play SH or SI in the old AAA? scores? I needs to know.

  46. YoMama Says:

Old Former- bye the way- what did ya think of my DeLa Boys last nite? Bellarmine got their Bell rung! I hate Bellarmine. We hadn’t beat them since ’49, had a 14-00 1st quarter lead against them in ’70 at Buckshaw, Ed jones went 98 and Ken Bell caught one for 49. Then disaster struck! 2 long snaps over punter’s head resulting in TD and Safety- that was it- final 37-26. We used to play for a big brass bell. Can you guess what school I’m refering too?

  47. Old Former Meddling Coach Says:

@YoMama. As far as the nineteen, I guess kids are just not as interested in Football as they used to be is all.We had one leave and just one as far as grades. And I will admit that my years as a Mission bear was not fruitful as i wanted them to be.Bal,Gal and Lincoln were always in the hunt. As bad as we wanted to,we never played any of the catholic Schools. I really wanted a piece of Steve Sewell(Remember him from Denver Broncos all you old timers) at Riordan and i had buds at S.I. But it was not in the Cards. Remember the Old WCAL? Jet Pride!

  48. DJ Says:

    jeez.. you guys are old.

  49. dudleydawson Says:

    miraman score?

  50. Old Former Meddling Coach Says:

I expected The Bells to give Dela Trouble but…..

  51. Baller8 Says:

Looking forward to El Cerrito-Campolindo in a couple of weeks. For the smaller schools, that looks like one to watch

  52. KIR Says:

#32 Dogfan – of course its the DLS system, but dont get it twisted they recruit. If you need proof do some background on this. Most recent PIttsburg kid taken is Boss Tagaloa played in Pittsburg youth league last 3 yrs the kid is huge 6’3 255 as a frosh.. He was on waiting list for DLS told he prob would not get in. He attended DLS camp in July next day he was accepted to DeLa and is a 2 way JV starter… IDK if its a recruit but some crap was pulled to get him off the waiting list. And yes another Pittsburg kid..

  53. George Manley Says:

EBfootball….This is becoming a problem every where…these kids can’t make the grades and most can’t afford the shoes….But its worse then that..lack of displine, commitment, would rather hang out at the mall, most all the city kids have only one parent or they are on their own or living with their grand mother…Too many issues and I think it will get worse…Out in Concord, Mt. diablo has turned into a getto school and the coach at Mt. Diablo has reallly got his hands full

  54. George Manley Says:

YoMama…I hate to see what next week will bring…it sure is sad what is going on at Skyline…they use to produce killer teams. DeAnza also and years ago Richmond use to field great teams…Justin/Siena has field a team that will be hard to deal with this year..

  55. George Manley Says:

Miraman….Miramonte steam rolled Eureka..we under estimated what the Mat’s are capable of doing…there showing last week against Marin Catholic sure gave us a clue…What a score…55-19

  56. YoMama Says:

Manley- Richmond high 1971 9-0-1 tied Sunnyvalle 1st game of season 6-6.
QB- Roland Young’s(Salesian) twin brother Ronald Young, FB- Jerge 6’4 240 lbs, HB- Track star Willie Hamilton Lineman- Andy MoGannom and Salcido. Richmond had 5 all east bay players and several all Northern Cal players- Jerge the offensive back player of the year.

  57. YoMama Says:

    YoMama knows!

  58. CaliFootballFan Says:

    @YoMama

And 1972 was the first year of DLS football……

  59. CaliFootballFan Says:

    @YoMama & Manley

And 1972 was the first year of DLS football……

  60. MiraMan Says:

    George,

Miramonte looked good today, but the team is not nearly as good as it could be. Still some dropped passes, poor tackling at times and a kicking game that must get more consistent. The other reason I’m not to excited is that Eureka is kind of a mess right now. They don’t have a QB, they don’t have receivers, they have poor DBs and their running game is only OK. Frankly, there coaching doesn’t seem to be very good.

But hey, 1-1 beats 0-2 any day. And it was an epic beat-down against a team that is supose to be pretty good. Great storyline too: Sheehan, #3 QB, returns from retirement to throw 6 TD’s in victory.

Below is the link to Inside Bay Area with a good write-up.

    http://www.insidebayarea.com/high-school-sports/ci_21454829/nick-sheehan-throws-six-touchdown-passes-miramontes-win

Next game at home against Analy. They have had two blow-out victories so that game could be epic!!

  61. Old Former Meddling Coach Says:

YoMama, If i’m remembering right it was Washington and Lincoln that played the bell game. Jet Pride!

  62. Old Former Meddling Coach Says:

@George Manley. What would happen to a school for it to be considered a Ghetto School? Just wondering. Jet Pride!

  63. George Manley Says:

Old Former Meddling Coach….With out going into Black and White….the demographic’s of the school population tell the story…This has happened to Mission San Jose but of a different nature, but by looking at the population of the Richmond area, Oakland..it pretty much tells the story…its just what happens and is happening….These kids have a hard life in front of them as most don’t have but one parent or are living with relatives or friends or just getting by which means no displine or commitment except surivial…Its too bad its not different…Another good example is South LA,Detroit and on it goes….

  64. YoMama Says:

Old Meddling- The Bell game was St. Mary’s vs. Bellarmine. Looks like their was a similar game in the city.

  65. Fan Says:

And at BHS, even with a wealthy community, and just one public high school for the entire city, there is little support of football. The 29 varsity sports at the school are segregated by demographics. Football has a huge percentage of kids with a lot of unmet needs, vs. Crew or Water Polo. These last two sports have really active parent groups who donate tons of time and money to those teams.

  66. YoMama Says:

BHS is like Cal. Can’t get it done.
    For BHS football, youneed:
    1. booster club
    2. school rallies
    3. band at all games
    4. fundraisers
    5. faculty support
    6. team dinners
    7. dances

if you challenge all that enery into the program, students and the public will support BHS football. Mabey some of those atheletes playing other sports go out for football.

  67. MiraMan Says:

    Fan @ #64,

I knew a junior at Berkeley about two years ago. He’s a 6ft tall Jewish kid that weighed about 175-180 lbs. Excellent athlete; did/does a variety of sports outside of HS. I asked him if he thought about playing football. He said he wasn’t big enough. While he’s not a large kid, he’s clearly big enough, especially given his level of fitness.

I think football has a problem with inclusion. This kid didn’t feel welcome to play football. Not saying anyone was unfriendly to him, just that fooball is seen at Berkely as a sport for tough inner city kids. The kids that don’t fit that profile tend to play sports where they feel more welcome. Sadly, the reality is that exclusion of these types of kids means less football participation and less economic resources.

Berkely has what, 23 on the varsity roster, Encinal has 21 and El Cerrito has 18. Sad. Some of the problem is grades, money, family situations. But some of the problem with dwindling participation is just creating an environment that invites kids to play.

  68. HAAL Fan Says:

  69. EBAL FAN #2 Says:

Can’t believe what has happened at Skyline. That used to be a powerful program. What can be done? It can’t be changed in a year or two,any suggestions?

  70. PERKIN Says:

Miraman great observation on participation. All schools on that side of the hill are going throught the same issues with numbers. You make some very valid points. I think Encinal’s Roster will be down to 20 I heard a kid broke his arm 2nd play of the game. Gotta be very frustrating for players, coaches, & parents that these schools can’t get more kids out for football.

  71. Old Former meddling Coach Says:

He just dislocated his elbow i believe Perkin. That’s what the Trainer said. Jet Pride!

  72. Oh Boy Says:

    @64-66

Berkeley is part of the East Bay community whether they want to admit or not. They share the same problems as schools from Union City to Hayward to Oakland to Richmond.

The best athletes don’t play football because of finances, transportation problems, poor grades, and dislike of the discipline and commitment required. I could go to almost any school and pick out 10 better athletes standing outside the gate than there are on the field.

  73. DJ Says:

high school football is a game for student-athletes tho.. so those “athletes” can just go screw themselves really

  74. Pride Baller Says:

Interesting comments regarding inclusion (in football programs) by Miraman @ 66, using Berkeley and others as examples.

I believe he’s exactly right. I live in Pinole and my son just graduated from the excellent Salesian teams of the past few years. Our team, both in total numbers and the key players, demographically speaking, was very diverse, matching the student body (well, not very many Asian kids on the team).

Conversely, our hometown Pinole Valley, with a similar demographic overall (albeit on a much larger scale) has a football team that is hardly diverse, made up almost completely of what Miraman described as “tough, inner city kids.”

    Why is that?

It starts at ages much younger than high schoolers. The youth team (not sure if it’s Pop Warner or what) in our area is the West County Spartans and for years virtually no kids from Pinole play on that team, it’s mostly kids from the Richmond area. It’s not even a thought in our community, is your young boy going to play tackle football, basically they all play soccer or fall baseball or join the scouts, etc. A lot of kids, including the star players, on Salesian’s team probably would not have even played football if they went to the local school, whether it be PV or DeAnza or wherever in the area. At Salesian it’s more of a family, football is cool, most of the good athletes, other than a few who are completely dedicted to a future in basketball or baseball, play on the team, it never has a problem with numbers. Hardly any of the key players in recent years even played youth tackle football.

Here’s the crux of the matter; in the inner city, for a kid with any talent, football can be a ticket out of trouble, out of gang influence, out of town if he can make a college scholarship, and an opportunity to be around positive male role models. Beyond the kid, it can also be viewed as a ticket to a better life for the family as well if he can make the pros. At least I believe that is the perception. My wife really wasn’t crazy about our son even playing football due to risk of injury, being a ticket to anywhere wasn’t even on the radar but I don’t think that type of viewpoint comes in to play as often in the inner city, the other benefits outweigh the risk. At Pinole Valley and other similar schools there are definitely very good athletes who could help the team who don’t play on the team for reasons other than not being able to make grades. They just end up in other sports or in the band and it doesn’t look as though that trend is going to change soon. It’s one of the reasons why a private school such as Salesian can be more successful, eveyone who wants to play and is any good does play. Sadly, at a school schools such as PV or Berkeley the demographic of the team probably does influence the decisions of others as to whether or not they play on the team.

I realize that my last comment is probably somewhat inflammatory, my apologies, but I think it is the reality, though, honestly, I never really hear it discussed, I think it’s just a given in our community, maybe moreso with the parents than the kids themselves.

  75. Wright fan Says:

Where are all of those critics now? Coach wright outcoacjed mt.diablo who I hear is a tough team. Where is bill johnson? The Rebels are going to win the new league. Hands down we are on our way up.

  76. DJ Says:

    Mt. Diablo is shit lol

  77. DJ Says:

Itll be fair to gauge SLZ based on how they do against NM.. El Cerrito was way better than SLZ and Mt. Diablo is terrible. NM should be a fairly good matchup

  78. EBfootball Says:

Bill Parcels said in his draft preview show that there is a decline in the DB production at all levels because those type of athletes are playing inn AAU hoop programs and other summer/fall basketball leagues following those hoop dreams. I wonder how the increase of that world is really taking away from football interests.

  79. Old Former Meddling Coach Says:

@Prideballer, For the most part you are correct in your thinking but it is more about the kid getting out and going to school. Most Coaches stress the point that Football can pay for your education but any good coach will quickly try to make a kid understand that the NFL is a Long shot dream for many of the very best at best. More kids see Basketball or Music as a quicker way to making money and As Parents,Coaches and Educators and Responsible Adults, It is our duty to make them understand it is ok to dream but understand that after High School there is a cold cruel world out there that will eat you alive if you don’t at least have a basic education. Jet Pride is Statewide!

  80. George Manley Says:

The coach at Mt. Diablo is in the middle or the edge of a team that will go 0-10…In Mt. Diablo’s district there are plenty of talented kids that choose to hang out, do nothing…can’t make the grades and don’t care. What kids the Red Devils do have that show up and loosing to San Lorenzo pretty well tells the story…

  81. dnrapp Says:

after reading the past few entries I was reminded of a quote by the Arroyo softball coach. “there are a lot of good players at school. We have to change the culture and make it cool to play school sports.

  82. BigJoe Says:

Mt. Diablo used to be a powerhouse in the late 60s and 70s.

  83. BigJoe Says:

Atheletes who don’t play sports are afraid of commitment. So they don’t count as atheletes. We had a couple and they were NO GOOD under a structured program. They are all talk and only their hoodies listen. They like to smoke, drink, act like Mac Daddies, cut school and generally stay in trouble. That’s their sport. So piss on them. A program is not going to attract them for any reason.
The atheletes a program needs to attract are other sports players who are student-atheletes.

  84. Prep Fan Says:

Pitt Grunt @24, It is too bad you missed the 1st quarter as you would have seen some more nice plays by Karris Johnson. That was a good review of the game, a close game by 2 good teams. Pitt looked very good in their comeback as the game could have gotten ugly at 27-10, but they battled back well and showed some resiliance, scoring with the last possesion of the 1st half and first possesion of the 2nd half. Cal had a balanced attack, with Owen also having a great game going 10 for 13 and 225 or so yards. That kept the Pitt D guessing.

I agree that Cal looks to be underrated at #12, and that was a big win for them to show they can play with and beat a great program like Pitt. I think Pitt will rebound with a big game against Monte Vista this week. Pitt’s kicker came up big with the long FG and the onside kick. That FG might have gone 65 yards in the air. Pitt should be able to run the ball against MV and they’ll be at home in front of the partisan crowd and Pirate Band. It should be a good battle with Pitt and Freedom going at it for the BVAL title this year.

  85. SL piratefootball Says:

    wright fan
    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
are u serious 1 win in like ten years and you think yall go b league champs, mt diablo is not a good program at all most of the bay point kids that are supposed to go there go to either pitt or concord or somewhere else LMFAO thanks for that laugh

  86. Junior Says:

Hey Pitt Grunt-just finished watching the Pitt v Cal game…. That is the best Pitt o line play I have seen in many years. I remember the 2008 team had a good line. This is your year to beat GB.

    Great game, very entertaining.

  87. Wright fan Says:

    @San Leandro Pirate,

El Cerrito is as good as De la salle. So don’t judge us on that game. We are 10 times the team that played them as everyone saw against Mt.Diablo. SLZ will win against Newark and after the game everyone on here should eat crow and say how wrong you were about coach Wright. I predict, no, I guarantee that coach Wright & the Rebels will win 35-6.

  88. SL piratefootball Says:

    hahahahahahahahahahahaha

    wright fan
what kind of new dope are u on, el cerrito is as good as DLS WOW ur on some good drugs or u havent taken ur meds. jacob really got u drinkin the kool aid

  89. Wright fan Says:

SLZ will win more games than SL! Hahahaha!

  90. SL piratefootball Says:

1 win in the last 3 years really child please get some wins some league championships make the playoffs then we can actually talk, have a winning record smh yall get 1 win over a lousy team that will finish last in their league just like slz does oh looks like u might not have ur usual easy win of the season in mt eden lol

  91. hoodboy Says:

I dont think Mt Eden is an easy game for SLZ. Mt.Eden is running the ball good this year. SLZ will not beat NM 35-6. Thats crazy. Dont compare SLZ to SL. SL plays a schedule 10 times harder than SLZ.

  92. SL piratefootball Says:

    hoodboy
thats what i was saying they wont have an easy win this year if they can even beat mt eden 1 thing u know bout coach p he is go run that ball

  93. The Voice Says:

Pitt will be fine. Cal High was the toughest team on their schedule and they adjusted at the half after being down in the game. After the game was tied and Cal scored, the onside kick miscue was the most pivotal play in the game.
Pitt Grunt stay out of our Kool-aid. If you knew what you were talking about you would be on time at Pitt games not after the first qtr. I was there for the kickoff of the JV game and know what’s happening. Pitt’s first two opponents (Clayton & Cal High) are very formidable and will be right in the thick of their league race. Pitt not be facing soup and salad creampuffs on their schedule like some teams. Monte Vista is next on the schedule and Pitt will show up. The coaches are working hard to turn this around and the boys had a good practice this morning and will be ready Friday night.

  94. chalktalk Says:

when is the last time SL beat a good team
let me answer 4 u ~~ when they had Superior players

JUST BECUZ UR A MODEL CITIZEN DOESNT MAKE U A GOOD COACH
X’S AND O’S DONT MAKE U A GOOD COACH EITHER

one day ull learn how 2 motivate
that DLS crap doesnt work at school were the athletic gap is vast and wide. no one want a cream puff on the field becuz he has great work ethics only other cream puff.

  95. Monarch86 Says:

Cal – Pitt game was a good test but I came away not knowing if Pitt is that much improved or if Cal’s defense is that suspect (really somebody make a tackle). I’m not ready to name either of them as best in their league, one thing is clear Cal’s O-line is back to the same form as the 2010 group.

  96. Prep Fan Says:

Agree Monarch. It is too early to tell whether that high scoring affair was the result of 2 good offenses or just bad defenses. Pitt did seem to have some trouble with the Clayton Valley ground game last week, but the MV game this week should clear up a few things. Cal faces a Castro Valley team that gave MV trouble last week with over 300 yards on the ground, so we might learn something from that game as well.

  97. YoMama Says:

chalktalk- what DLS crap are u refering too? What’s yur team or ex-team? Mabey the DLS crap would have helped them cuz the DLS crap is how college football is approached son.

  98. BigJoe Says:

    he must be talking about
    1. commitment cards- used at many colleges and designed by ex- dls coach who coached pros
    2. team diners before games
    3. film before and after games
    4. extensive weight training and conditioning
    5. prayer and chapel – like it or not, lots of college and pro teams do it
    6. accountability and rules
    7. tough mental preparation
    8. no trash talking
    9. respect opponents
    10. no parental interceeding
    11. student- atheletes
    12. strong moral values
At college you are a citizen of the university if you haven’t heard that before- mess up and face accountability.
At DLS it’s the same thought.
So before you spout out about your so-called theories you might want to examine these points which historically work-ask the cooaches.
To get a program to work you have to start somewhere, iregardless of social/economic status- ask Crenshaw, they did it.

  99. Redandblue2 Says:

Anytime an east bay team gets an invitation to play at Kezar Stadium, it is a treat. For Campolindo, after blowing out two D4 teams, it’s time to see what kind of a team they will be, facing the CCS D3 champs Sacred Heart Cathedral on Friday and El Cerrito next week.

Terra Nova was thought to have a high scoring offense only to be shut down by the Irish. We will see if SHC can do the same to Stephens & company. Of bigger concern will be how SHC and their new QB Peralta will deal with an untested Campo secondary.

Campo’s ranking, based mostly on last year’s success along with QB Stephens returning, is still too high IMO. If they somehow manage to defeat both SHC on the road & EC at home, then they will have earned the ranking; they would likely be favored the rest of the way as well. Look for a high scoring, entertaining game at Kezar Friday night; last team with the ball wins.

Another interesting game in the DFAL will be the Miramonte vs Analy game in Orinda. With Analy scorching their first two opponents, it will be intersting to see what they will do with the Mats.

Miraman, perhaps you can enlighten us on who will play QB for the Mats this Friday. I’ve seen Sheehan in action two years ago on JV and think he is a great athlete. I think he might be a better fit for Miramonte, even with a healthy Anderson.

Las Lomas hosting Foothill is another intriguing battle. Despite the Falcons loss to Freedom, a Las Lomas victory over Foothill would be a great boost to the DFAL. I think the Knights get the job done.

  100. Prep Fan Says:

R&B, If Foothill loses to Las Lomas (as you have predicted) to move to 1-2 prior to EBAL play, it could be a long year for the Falcons. Novato is not the team it was a few years back when it dismantled Miramonte in the NCS D3 finals.

  101. BigDog Says:

Marlon Blanton has Jesuit rolling 45-07 opener.
2 star returners said they are in better condition and preparation than in the past.

  102. MiraMan Says:

    Redandblue2,

I don’t know who will start for Miramonte, but I heard Anderson would be out “a couple of weeks” after he was injured, so I would expect he will not play…but I am not in the know. I would also mention that Max Ferbacher will be coming back, so he and Nick will be available.

I agree that Campo is high at #4. I watched some of the Pitt/Cal game and its tough for me to see Campo (or most D3 squads) deal with the large O-lines and D-lines of those team. But I saw some of the Moreau game and the offense looks formidable. It will be interesting to see what the running back Hoffman looks like against non-JV teams. If he can break some big runs that would be a big weapon for Campo.

Great games this week. On paper, Sacred Heart should be the better team, but CCS teams haven’t looked very good lately. Miramonte vs Analy is a toss-up. If we get penetration and rush the QB, we win. If not, we lose. I think on the offensive side we put up 28 to 35, so its a case of keeping them to less than that. Las Lomas vs Foothill, I take Foothill. I just don’t see the offensive weapons for Las Lomas. But it will be close. Dublin’s in trouble this week against Amador Valley. I think last week’s loss to Benecia shows they are not as good as the San Leandro victory indicated. Alhambra will also drop a second game against CN, but they’ll come back next week against Maria Carillo. Who knows with Acalanes. Not alot of info to go with on them, but they should win all four non-league games.

  103. Greekoftheweek Says:

Redandblue, Sheehan is a great athlete, but Anderson has a stronger arm and is a more accurate passer. Also, Sheehan brings value as a receiver. MHS should put up a lot of points this year with a group of WR like Sheehan, Deutz, Williams and Paoletti.

  104. mc415 Says:

@99 sacred heart did not win ccs d3, they lost in the finals to St Ignatius

  105. chalktalk Says:

    YO mama
the minute u start acting like everyone is equal- thats the minute u start lying 2 the kids Every one has a role on the team each role is different so they can not be equal EACH ROLE MAY B IMPORTANT 2 THE COHESIVENESS OF THE TEAM
but some roles can b replaced far more easier than others.

DLS doesnt have the best athletes they never have and never will The best athletes or selfish EGO driven motivated by being incredible THE ONLY THING I THINK IS INCREDIBLE ABOUT DLS is the fact that no one can beat them and they have limited team speed

  106. Greekoftheweek Says:

Chalktalk, What color is the sky in your world?

  107. MiraMan Says:

    Greekoftheweek,

I agree with your comments on Anderson and Sheehan, but I don’t necessarily think that Fernbacher should be counted out. I know people have fallen in love with Anderson because of his gutsy performance against Marin Catholic, but I think it fair to point out that his stats were pretty mediocre. Yea, it’s Marin Catholic, but their defense was softer than expected. I’m just saying, Fernbacher has done nothing to loose consideration for the QB role.

I guess I’m just saying that as a senior that’s waited in line to start, and considering the ultimate decision to start Anderson was based on injury, I’d like to see Fernbacher get a chance to prove himself and certainly stay in the discussion.

  108. chalktalk Says:

    it anit silver and green

  109. Reggie Hammond Says:

    BigDog,
blanton is a very good coach. i knew he would do well.

  110. The Voice Says:

Big Dog that Marlon Blanton is a total class act. Coached him youth football. A tremendous athlete. Went from second fiddle RB at Pitt his Freshmen year in I believe 1990 to starting Fullback at DLS the next. He came back to Pirates Stadium his Sophomore year, took a handoff at his own 4 yardline and went 96 yards to the house for a TD. Still to this day the longest run ever by an opponent in Pirates history.

  111. Greekoftheweek Says:

    MiraMan,
I agree Fernbacher is still in the discussion. My reply was based on the comparison R&B made between Sheehan and Anderson. That said, Coach Schram has made it clear that he wants to throw the ball a lot due to the strong group of receivers they have. Anderson and Sheehan are probably both better passers than Fernbacher. Also, it helps to build a program if you have underclassman who are contributors and returning the following year – especially at QB. Note that almost every team preview in this forum mentioned returning/not returning QB as a prediction of strength/weakness for each team.

  112. The Eraser Says:

    Chalk Talk,

I don’t know who you played for or what you think you know. But as far as Xs and OS, motivating kids, managing a team and putting together a successful program, I haven’t seen shiiiiiiiiiyut.

u cant talk scents to somebody who believes that the only thing that makes scents is what he says i dont believe he is ever wrong in his mind. not sure how dls never have had any team speed i can name a few names of guys that ran track and competed very well lets say something recent a couple of years ago at state meet 4 members of the football team came in 2nd by a very very small margin to serra of gardena in the 4x1oo relay that serra team had the likes of robert woods and m. lee the 2 speed wide outs at usc currently. sound like team speed to me michael barton and m. cotton went to state in the 110 hurdles hmmmmm. in his comment #94 i believe he was referring to coach boom of san leandro high, his son played their a few years back now i wonder did he express what he thought about or how he felt to coach boom i dont think so he was 1 of those dads in the stands running his mouth, i can bet he didnt say anything to coach boom this guy is an internet tough guy, his son was a really nice kid though wonder if he is still playing

  119. YoMama Says:

SL lost 4 straight NCS title games to DLS by large scores in the past with excellent coaching and Div 1 players at SL.
Those scores would reflect wins by 40-50 pts now or if CHALKTALK coached.
Bellarmine plays SL this week, that will be a good comparison.
