Whats the word on Hooper at De La Salle? Rumor is he may be out 6-8 weeks. Cal also has some injury issues that may hamper O & D line play.
September 18th, 2012 at 5:44 pm

Exciting game against SPSV last week. Great to see the offense evolve over the past few weeks under Coach Gatrell. 17 unanswered points to win the game, scoring with under a minute left to take the lead, all while our best play maker was held out for the game. Great adjustments by the coaching staff at the half.
Does anyone have a scouting report on Kennedy-Fremont? Adjusting to the new league will be different for me.

SF Chronicle top 25- 11 teams are Catholic
State rankings- 8 out of 10 top teams are Catholic
We need to get a Private/Catholic Division and those teams go right to state.
Throw in Jesuit, St. Mary’s, Central Catholic and Christian Bros. from the SJS.
September 18th, 2012 at 9:12 pm
SoCal Catholics looking really strong coming out of the gate. The problem is they knock each other off by playoff time.
September 18th, 2012 at 9:44 pm
Ok VCfan We will see come Friday hopefully ec doesn’t have a letdown after emotional win vs campo but hearing a lot of good things about VC
September 18th, 2012 at 10:01 pm
Yeah Moreau was able to overcome the adversity of have 7 starters out. Big Win Mariners. We have a long way to go, but we are gettin so much better. Nick Kinast is a Beast.
September 19th, 2012 at 1:36 am
Logan may be all hype but I will say, the passing game is where it should be at this point. Their running game has slowed to a worried low. Warren long has not had a chance to develop his legs or his vision. Long runs well when he is warmed up as games progress he gets better. Logans coach has decided to rest him for a run in the playoffs but long should have the oppurtunity to play a full game to get his tailback legs under him. It appears that long has become apprehensive when he hits the hole. Undecisive running will kill the ground game always. Before they get to del oro long should have the opportunity to have a large amount of touches, repetion will create good habits, without it running game doomed. Beasley good back not big. When they get to the playoffs the players get bigger and stronger long will have to be running well for logan to go deep. I understand coaches reasoning but could backfire long looks sluggish with the football. Logan is where they are today because of a superior run game when will we see it ?. Logan is not all hype they had to play the games to win the teams they played wanted to win. Logan has earned their place, where will they go from here ?. p.s. Defense has been dominating, they need to stop short seem routes.

Cal vs AmadorV
Cal is at home and should win over AV. Comment was made about injuries to the O/D line. I don’t know of any injuries plus Cal’s deep at the line so there won’t be much if any fall off with bench players.
September 19th, 2012 at 9:13 am
Exciting week for the East Bay Athletic League. Should set the course for who is a legitimate team and can win the first EBAL Championship minus DLS.
Predictions:
Foothill 35 MV 21 – Game will come down to the defenses
SRV 40 Livermore 21 – SRV finally plays a team they can stop and WR’s can get open against
Cal 21 Amador 14 – Cal will be too physical for AV
DLS 45 Granada 7 – Mismatch
September 19th, 2012 at 11:29 am
EBAL predictions:
Monte Vista 35-Foothill 28: Earlier in the year I would have predicted a rather easy win for the Falcons, but with the way MV seems to be playing of late I’m going to predict a Mustang win.
SRV 35-Livermore 7: I think SRV will struggle a little at the beginning of the game, but should end up winning comfortably.
Cal 35-AV 14: This will be a true test of where AV stands this year as they had an unexpectedly solid preseason beating Freedom and a solid Dublin squad and losing a close game to a tough Concord squad. Still I think Cal will come out on top with a good balanced offensive attack.
DLS-Granada: DLS should win handily and you would expect after their recent game they would be coming out to make a statement. But, the past few years DLS has been a little unpredictable about when they are finally going to turn it on for an entire game. Last year it wasn’t until the first SRV game in week 8. We’ll see how the players respond this week especially since it is likely some key players will be out with injuries.
September 19th, 2012 at 11:56 am
Some of my projections are
Freedom over CV by 14, but it will be close until end of 3rd qtr
Acalanes over Campo by 10, Cougars are decent but Dons are better
My Las Lomas Knights over the Dogs by 12, my Knights are soft but I can’t bet against them in this one
Foothill over Monte Vista by 21, Mustangs are very much overrated and very slow on O & D compared to Falcons
Amador over Cal by 10, Cal high is soft on D and very predictable of Offense. Amador beat Freedom and Cal High has only 1 good athlete on Offense
Livermore over SRV by 4, Cowboys are tough and SRV is weak on Offense with No Ground Game at all.
Salesian over Pinole by 14, Chieftans are sound, solid and reliable, Pinole is not
Valley Christian by 21 over El Cerrito. El Cerrito is very overrated and VC is super underrated. VC big in 2nd half
Logan by 35 over Berkeley, the Jackets are THE MOST disappointing team in bay area since 2008
September 19th, 2012 at 12:28 pm
Hunch, where do you get your weed? you have to stop smokin that stuff! Cal is too strong for Amador. SRV will not go down to the Boys. MV and The Hill should be a good game (21 pts? no way)
September 19th, 2012 at 2:02 pm
Yes it does look like Hunch has some very good hippy lettuce. very
“Valley Christian by 21 over El Cerrito. El Cerrito is very overrated and VC is super underrated. VC big in 2nd half”
This is Valley Christian of Dublin not San Jose.
September 19th, 2012 at 2:56 pm
@ Hunch
Acalanes over Campo?
Valley Christian over Ec?
From what i’ve heard of Acalanes they are a ground and pound team with no threat of ever throwin the ball can’t really see a one dimensional team beating campo and coach Macy im sure will have his guys ready after basically shutting ec offense down and still losing…..Campo will be extra motivated for this game.Campo wins big!!
Ec may be overrated but they are very good and Valley christian just might be underated and they are very good but the fact you predict Ec to lose by 21 reveal a bias against Ec on your part rather than a rational common sense pick VC could very well win the game but can’t see them winnig by 21 over this Ec team unless Ec has a serious hangover from last week’s emotional win.I’ve heard many people before season who picked VC point to win the league so no doubt they are good but 21 points c’mon Hunch.
September 19th, 2012 at 3:09 pm
Granada 0 DLS 56 and will go deep into bench 2nd half.
CV-C will take Liberty by 10
September 19th, 2012 at 3:18 pm
De La Salle is racked with injuries and bench will see lots of time…don’t be surprised to see two QB’s split time. Final 35 for DLS and 3 for Granada.
Spartans will be doing everything possible to get as much player time in and scoping out more of the juniors who can step up.
September 19th, 2012 at 6:45 pm
Hey Moreau Fan, The only time I have been able to see Kennedy was when they lost big to Concord. I think Moreau will win on the J.V and Varsity levels ths Saturday night.
September 19th, 2012 at 7:24 pm
DLS may have some dings but they will roll on and do what is necessary to keep on improving. I agree that they may mix things up a bit and may take an opportunity to get as many players into the game. That is part of what makes Sparty the dominating force towards the final 4 games of the season, everybody is involved for the common goal to be at your very best by ncs and state.
DLS 40 Granada 0 Its one game at a time…Roll On Spartans.
September 19th, 2012 at 9:43 pm
I don’t think the EC defense will give up 21pts to anyone, but the offense might not score 21pts.
September 19th, 2012 at 9:45 pm
I don’t think the EC defense will give up 21pts to anyone, but the offense might not score 21pts after what I saw last week.
September 20th, 2012 at 12:05 am
Moreau Fan, I don’t know too much about Kennedy because the don’t post their stats on Maxpreps like some of the other MVAL teams do. I can tell you that WR Ahu Othafi is their biggest playmaker, so MC should focus on him. Otherwise, that’s all I can give you. I think that MC should beat Kennedy handily; it’ll be the games against American, Newark, and Washington that will make a difference on how the MVAL plays out.
September 20th, 2012 at 1:58 am
Mvalfan2,
I have enjoyed the growth of Kinast with this offense. Opening out the spread has done a good job as a good change-up to the pro-style running game.
MVALFremont,
Good to know, I’m excited to start up MVAL play!
Tri-City Dude,
I’ve never been one to look at stats. I’ll keep an eye out on Othafi. Thanks!

Tennyson 2-1 (-3) vs Oakland 2-0 (-15.9)
Lancers get a chance to show monarchs how to put away the wildcats
September 20th, 2012 at 9:12 am
Wait a minute, the only OAL team JB has played since being at Arroyo was Castlemont, to my knowledge, or did he play Skyline one year?? SO lets not get ahead of our selves. Jb has his work cut out for him, Oak tech will be looking to rebound from their loss last week to Pittman! Should be a good game.

EC loses to VC by 21?! Are you serious? Lets be real about this, folks. You’re talking about a team that averaged 50+ points PER GAME until they played a powerful Campo team last weekend, and all of a sudden we’re doubting their offensive prowess? Come on, folks, lets wake up and smell the coming gaucho victory. If you think EC’s defense will allow 21 points you’re smoking something. Additionally, the bias that’s evident in the previous posts makes me wonder if we like watching good football, or if some of us just like watching teams with predominantly African-American students lose. I’m just saying…
September 20th, 2012 at 11:17 am
gauchofan: Quit trying to make this a racial issue.. EC is #6 in the bay and props for beating Campolindo last week. If you look at both VC and EC average points per game and defense per game they are pretty much the same, the same goes for defesive turnovers. It is going to be a great game and I hope both teams show up no excuses!! Lets wait until Friday after the game to stop smack.
September 20th, 2012 at 11:18 am
Shout out to Teezaleezy; even though I don’t know you I can tell an HONEST UNBIASED FAN when I see one.
September 20th, 2012 at 12:36 pm
Vcfan who have Valley Christian played this year?I think ec is goin be too much for VC, I don’t doubt they are a good team but ec is going to be a huge step up in competition Ec wins big!!,Ec haters shouldn’t doubt Ec offense based on campo game in fact Ec should be feared because they played a terrible game against an explosive campo team threw 4 interceptions in the first half alone committed 14 penalties hardly used their two main weapons in Pippins and Harvey all on campo’s field and still won…The game is played on the field and anything can happen but just dont see Vc winning.
September 20th, 2012 at 12:36 pm
Did somebody beat up Pitt_Grunt he used to post all the time and now he’s no where to be heard from?
September 20th, 2012 at 1:04 pm
@17 Hunch- Slight one maybe. Cal’s D was very suspect in ’11 and somewhat non-league ’12. When Kravitz had the offense in ’10, D held league and playoff teams to 7 or less seven out of eleven contest, and Cal marched to the Coliseum. That dropped to zero last year without Kravitz. With Billeci being a DC for 6+ years at Logan and Freedom before Cal, one would expect the Grizz D to be formidable as in ’10. Based on the Pitt game where Pitt came back in the second half and Castro Valley which runs MORE than Cal, Cal’s offense may have to produce almost every series like they were faced with last year. Moreno, now healthy, needs to show he’s a big recruit (albeit Ivy) if the Dons are to win.
Bergman’s offense is no slouch. Whomever has the ball last in that one could be the winner. If Livermore beats SRV that 100 year old light bulb in the firehouse might just explode.
September 20th, 2012 at 1:15 pm
@vcfan woooww!!!! ec losin by 21. El Cerrito’s defense has only givin up more than 21 once in the last 2 seasons. i think vc is a good opponent 2 start league, but i dnt know if they hav the team speed 2 defeat the gauchos of 2012….. SEE YA FRIDAY NIGHT.
September 20th, 2012 at 2:17 pm
@New2this,
I am currently in a Pittsburg reeducation camp. The Pirate politburo is attempting to break me of my objectivity. I haven’t been broken yet.
September 20th, 2012 at 2:36 pm
no smack talk, VCFan, just a firm believer in the mighty Gauchos! I love to see young men succeed on the field and off. EC coaching staff has had a rich history in helping our community, and I will forever back this program. Friday night can’t come fast enough, and I’m excited to see our young men serve us proud. Good luck and I’ll be praying for a safe game for both sides.
September 20th, 2012 at 8:28 pm
Mustangs are overrated, falcons should win easily in this mismatch.
September 21st, 2012 at 8:41 am
I Like Football
Foothill has played only 1 quality D1 team, Freedom, and they lost 28-41.
Monte Vista has played and beaten Castro Valley 35-22, Berkeley 21-0, and Pittsburg 44-14.
Have you some extenuating circumstances information that you might care to share, sir?
September 21st, 2012 at 12:43 pm
Hey TheSchoolmarm,
What game are you covering tonight? I will be watching MV at Foothill. This is my ‘game of the week’ and I hope to see some razzle-dazzle big plays. I’m just not sure if the Falcons can hang with the Mustangs for 4 quarters, but with Coach Sweeney on the sideline you never know.
BTW, Congratulations are in order for Coach Sweeney as they recognize his 25th anniversary of service tonight.
I will stop by the 1907 place for a beverage after the game.
September 21st, 2012 at 2:35 pm
FNL680 accurate account of Cal and the differences between the 10 and 12 squads and the impact of Kravitz and other coaches no longer there, Coach Eric is talented and maybe his non-league D was a Rex Ryan impersonation
September 21st, 2012 at 3:47 pm
Big props to marlon Blanton (SPSV) now at Jesuit in Carmichael for going 3-0 so far! Great win vs Christian brothers last Saturday in front of 13000+ fans!!
Great job!
Poor SPSV, horrible coach,(don’t coach) don’t care about the kids, school tradition just a screamer! Look for that program to take a dive till they can get things fixed!
Pray for them!
September 21st, 2012 at 4:21 pm
some of this is also the principle, she brought the new coach in, Blanton took the old coaching staff, not enough locals Vallejo kids playing, she must have thought it was an automatic- those 06 and 07 teams were really on the money norcal ranked both years- brat a lot of good playoff teams, Blanton had a way with the kids and the DLS tradition, I am sure in defense of the new coach there’s no way he can understand that bond and brotherhood unless he played in it- it is not easy to teach.
September 21st, 2012 at 4:50 pm
Hey Paydirt
I’m going to the Foothill-Monte Vista game (Should be a good one. Didn’t know Sweeny was still coaching. Thought Mannion had taken’ over).
Anyway, where’s 1907? If I can find the joint, I’ll be
the decrepit, ole geezer with glasses, a grey beard trying to figure out and write my game notes.
Looking forward to some good HS FB BS if we can hook up.

Need MV to beat Foothill- can it happen? Want MV coming to Winton Drive in Oct. with winning record- maybe undefeated? All heck is going to break loose for that one. YoMama knows.

Schoolmarm, 1907 club? That used to be on Emeryville line, strip bar, 2 drink cover. Maybe it was the 1909 club.

BSAL- the attendance for the Holy Bowl was 15,000 plus. It was a holy war as usual. Heard never seen nothing like it unless you attend. I heard the closet was Riordan vs. S.I. at Kezar in the old days- 30- 40,000 plus at nite! WOW.

TheSchoolmarm,
Coach Sweeney took a year or so off from coaching, and it may have had something to do with one of his daughters playing College soccer or softball out of state. I think he also called the defense one year as co-headcoach. AD/Coach Mannion may have moved up near Oregon State where his son is the starting QB. So Coach Sweeney has been back in the saddle for at least two years.
BTW, 1907 refers to the year your own hometown watering hole was founded. See you at the usual place after the game.

@dudley Dawson saw Salesian Saturday vs Pinole they are 5-0 but if they played a decent schedule no way they are undefeated wasn’t impressed they have some good backs but I think ec wins easily ec 24 Salesian 7 this will probably be ec’s last test before playoffs …Who dat we dat!!
