Girls Volleyball: Playoffs, Rankings, Standings

The playoffs are just over three weeks away, so it’s time to look at which East Bay teams are in position to make the post-season.
Division I
Locks: Amador Valley, Berkeley, California, Castro Valley, Foothill, Heritage, Irvington, Monte Vista, San Ramon Valley.
These teams are pretty much guaranteed to finish above .500 in one of the three criteria.
Should be in: Dougherty Valley.
Still alive: Deer Valley, Granada, Logan, Liberty, Mission San Jose, San Leandro.
Deer Valley, Logan and Liberty are in the best shape, and if Granada finishes above .500, they’ll be in because of the strength of their schedule.
Division II
Locks: College Park, Dublin, Las Lomas, Newark Memorial, Northgate.
These teams are in great shape.
Should be in: Arroyo.
The Dons seem to be in good shape by leading the Shoreline League of the WACC.
Still alive: Alameda, American, Carondelet, Clayton Valley, Concord, Mt. Eden.
Carondelet, due to schedule strength, seems like a guarantee, if they get qualified. Everyone else on this list has some work to do.
Division III
Locks: Albany, Bishop O’Dowd, Campolindo.
A very, very top heavy division.
Should be in: N/A.
Still alive: Acalanes, Hercules.
Acalanes has a pretty good shot and should be in. Hercules has work to do.
Division IV
Locks: Moreau Catholic, St. Patrick-St. Vincent.
Should be in: Piedmont.
The Highlanders seem to be in decent shape with their WACC record.
Still alive: Berean Christian, John Swett, St. Mary’s.
Division V
Locks: Head-Royce, St. Joseph Notre Dame, Valley Christian.
Should be in: Athenian, College Prep,
Still alive: N/A.
Rankings
I was very tempted to re-arrange the top three teams this week, but with the Stockton Tournament coming up, and with Bishop O’Dowd playing Presentation in a week, I decided it can wait. Things will shake out very soon and give us an idea about how to organize these Division III teams.
In the EBAL, the Cal/SRV situation will be sorted out on Tuesday, while Foothill move above Amador Valley after a win over the Dons.
With some change at the bottom, Newark Memorial moves up two spots while Castro Valley joins the rankings for the first time, and Moreau Catholic gets back into the top 15.
1. Bishop O’Dowd (17-4)
2. Campolindo (17-2)

Is there any reason that BCL-West isn’t represented?
October 15th, 2012 at 8:30 am
Yes, there is. Because none of those teams are in the East Bay. We cover East Bay teams only.

Huge match tonight with #4 Cal facing #3 SRV in what may very well determine the top seed in the D1 playoffs this year. Cal won the first matchup in the Grizzly den, but SRV has been on a roll ever since and is seeking revenge.
October 16th, 2012 at 6:36 pm
And that is where I currently am.
October 17th, 2012 at 6:14 pm
Matt, you saw a sterling performance by the top D1 player and possibly EB POY Sabrina Clayton. She led the charge as Cal took down defending NCS champ SRV in 3 on the road. Very impressive. She is the real deal.
October 18th, 2012 at 10:41 am
Ya, she was pretty incredible on Tuesday. She looked like a legit POY candidate.
