After seeing Northgate win the Northgate tournament tonight and beating Cardinal Newman, Maria Carrillo, and San Ramon Valley in the Champuionship bracket, I find it hard to believe that that anyone but Michelle Lawrence will be the the East Bay Player of the year. many great players but this kid has done it all!

Cal’s only EBAL loss was to AV in 5 at home. This match was at AV and they match up very well with Cal, so it was a huge win for Cal. One more win over either Foothill or Carondelet and they clinch the EBAL title and most likely the #1 seed in the NCS D1 playoffs. So it wasn’t just another match.

Um, I don’t know what all goes into the rankings, but wouldn’t Cal have been expected to beat Amador, based on their records? They barely won in 5. Not sure why that win would move them to the top. Might actually move them down a spot….

This weekend’s Northgate tournament could help sort things out a bit. Seven of your top 15 are playing: Las Lomas, San Ramon Valley, Northgate, Monte Vista, Castro Valley, Newark Memorial, and St. Josephs along with several solid NCS stalwarts from the North Bay: Branson, Maria Carillo, Cardinal Newman and Marin Catholic. Should be fun!

You’re right. That remark was unnecessary.

For the record, although both matches only went 3, neither team cruised in the matches this year. Scores of the first match were Campo 26-24, 25-22, 25-14. Aggregate score of both matches this year- Las Lomas 135, Campo 133.
