The comments I've read here about NCS seedings seem to overlook the nuts and bolts of the seeding process.

The NCS committee did not necessarily consider Los Gatos to be better than Las Lomas. But they needed to get Los Gatos on the opposite side of the bracket from Mitty.

The seeding committee will put two teams from the same section into opposite sides of the brackets for the State playoffs.

So Los Gatos either needed to be a #3 or a #6. Putting Los Gatos at 3 and Las Lomas at 4 made it easy to seed the rest of the bracket.

Seedings aside.. it was a good Tuesday night for the NCS! 5 of the 6 teams in Div 1, 2, and 3 won their matches.

A good night for NCS teams in their NorCal openers...Cal, Las Lomas, Carillo, Campo, O'Dowd, St. Pats, Branson and St. Joes all advancing. Tough losses for SRV and Cardinal Newman who both battled hard. Was able to attend the LL match last night...and once again the ladies simply refused to quit. Down one game and trailing 23-21 in game 2 they could've just patted themselves on the back and said "nice season", especially with Mitty looming. But nope...they rallied, winning game 2 and dominating after that. A daunting task on Saturday, but they are ready for the challenge. Good luck in the 2nd round NCS teams!!

Chris -

It all is fair regarding D1 berths for SFS and OS. Granted they are marginal and get berths, but NCS, CCS and SJS each get 2 D1 berths, just like they do in the other Divisions. The only difference is that there are no or few D1 schools in the Northern Section, so D1 gets the 6 core (NCS, CCS, SJS) plus 2 (OS and SFS) where the other Divisions get the same 6 core plus 2 (NS1 and NS2).

Let's not get too excited about the CCS dominating girls volleyball. That's like saying the NCS dominates football, when it is one school, DLS, that has all the titles.. Mitty has been the most dominant girls volleyball program for years. When you consider public schools, the East Bay and South Bay have been pretty comparable. Of the 6 schools from the NCS biggest 3 divisions, only O'Dowd is a private school. Give credit to those schools that draw their players from one town. It's an uneven playing field the private schools have, drawing their players from all over the area, no boundaries, and more often than not, families that have the money to give their kids the best training from the time they start playing. I'll pull for Cal, SRV, LL, Campo, Northgate over Mitty, Presentation, St Francis, Sacred Heart Prep, Valley Christian every time.

Home court advantage may mean less in NorCal matches as all the teams are elite, but it is still nice to be able to play in front of your friends and neighbors. If Cal wins tonight against Homestead, they'll have to travel to Granite Bay on Saturday night to play the SJS runner up. Combine the travel time with the fact that Cal has an NCS semi final football game that night at home and only the families and really dedicated volleyball fans will be making that trip. Good luck to all the East Bay teams tonight: Cal, SRV, LL, Campo, BOD, SP/SV & St. Joes.
