  • VBT

    Matt,
Thanks again for great coverage all season on Bay Area Girls HS Volleyball.
Congrats to Campolindo for a memorable run to the State Finals.
Congrats also to Las Lomas on a great year, but one correction: LL did not “sweep Campo this season. They won the second meeting in league play. Campo won the first match in three at Las Lomas.

  • Coach

Congrats to Cal High for winning EBAl for the 1st time in over 20yrs and NCS for the 1st time in 30yrs. It was truly a fun season. Good Luck to all of the girls that are playing at the next level!

  • Blah

I think the WACC should drop Coach of the year. It doesn’t add any value. They are the only league that give this award. It is wacky to me since the all the leagues are small and there are some really bad ones. If they are going to keep this award, at least combine the two WACCs and just give one award. It will go to Odown since they walk through everyone each year.

  • DubC Vball

    Matt…
Thanks for the excellent coverage this year…and as a Las Lomas parent, a special thanks for this story. It was a special season…one the girls will never forget. VBT…I’m pretty sure Matt means a match 3 game sweep…not a season sweep. Have a great club season everybody!

  • Prep Fan

Congratulations to Cal High and Sabrina Clayton on an outstanding season, one for the ages. First NCS Championship in 30 years. As it was mentioned for LL, it was also Cal’s first time hosting a NorCal playoff game and first ever NorCal win, highest ranking in school history in Bay Area News Group ranking, Cal-Hi Sports and on Maxpreps.

As for the POY conversation, it is worth noting that while Sabrina was named EBAL MVP, there was no one else from Cal on first team all league and only one named second team. Campo & NG both had two others on first team and also two on second team. Sabrina carried the Grizz this season to new heights without the supporting cast that the estblished programs at Campo and NG enjoyed. Great seasons by all 3 teams, as well as LL.

  • Q

    All
The reason why cal don’t have many players on the first team is because there are many good players from the league. If sabrina did not have supporting cast, they would not be where they are today. Cal has players. Stop making a statement about Campo or NG with the supporting cast. Bottom line is neither teams would not have gone as far as they did without these three great players on their team period! There are other elements to the same then just kills. For example tough serve, great defense etc. If you want to talk about history, Campo is the only team from the east bay that made state final 4 times and no d3 is even close of making it. Odow had their chances few years ago but failed to CCS teams and Drake last year (btw the biggest upset ever). Annie’s team not only beat Sabrina’s team at DV tournament but took her team the the state.

  • Prep Fan

I agree there are many good players in their league. All the more reason to support her for POY in getting her team through that gauntlet. I’m not saying Sabrina’s teammates weren’t good, just that Campo had many other top notch players. Certainly not a slight of Annie or her teammates in any way. Again, a great season of volleyball for each of these teams.

  • VBT

DubC Vball @4) Got it on the “sweep” in a match angle. Caught me off guard. If I’m LL, I’m proudest of having beaten Campo along with only a few other elite teams. Campolindo had five losses all season. Three of those were against teams that played in the State Finals (St. Francis Sac DI, Mitty DII, Cathedral Cath DIII)O’Dowd, and Las Lomas.
LL at #3 in the East Bay is well deserved.

  • FormerWarrior

MSJ doesn’t even have anyone in the first team MVAL this year? O’ how the mighty have fallen.

  • http://notsure Kim

    LL Parent says:

It was a great season for the LL girls. They have achieved what has never been done in the schools history. Not sure why Coach Changaris did not get coach of the year. He took a pretty good program and turned it into a great program to go on to win a NCS title. LL received some good coverage but Campo received great coverage. It seems a little lopsided. Give the girls and the coach their due.

  • Van

Well Kim, I agree with you about LL great season. I disagree with coverage times. If you take your team to state of course you will get better coverage, player of the year, and coach of the year
