The Concord High football community is mourning the death of senior Montreal Blakely. The defensive starter with a 3.6 GPA was killed Saturday night in San Francisco.
Coach Brian Hamilton passed on this information for those able to help the family, which is struggling to pay for the for funeral costs.
“First, we would like to thank you all for the outpouring of love and support since we all learned of Montreal’s passing. We are so proud of the family we have built here over our nine years, and so grateful for your support now in this time of great sorrow.
Many of you have asked how you can help in this time of despair. Again I am humbled by the selflessness you all have already demonstrated. While there is never a good time to lose a son, a brother, a teammate, or a friend, losing a loved one so close to Christmas is especially difficult for all.
For those of you who are able to help his family in this time of tremendous need, you can help assist with Montreal’s expenses in a number of ways. You can visit our website chsminutemenfootball.com and click the donate button. Also on the site is information about how to donate by check. If you live near the campus you can leave your donation in the main office during school hours. Also, Friday night at 5:00 p.m. in the gym, the team will be selling Christmas ornaments decorated with the number 9 in honor of Montreal. Finally if you plan on joining us at the vigil being held Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in the gym we will have collection boxes at the door.
Finally, we want to thank you again for your thoughts and prayers and let you know they have been a great comfort to us all. We hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas and pray that Montreal’s family finds some solace in this time of peace on Earth and good will to men.”
