Another ex-Mustang, Rasheed points way at Princeton

Princeton senior guard Niveen Rasheed, the 2008-09 Bay Area News Group East Bay Player of the Year at Monte Vista High, was recently named Ivy League Player of the Week.

A co-captain, Rasheed averaged at least 10 points a game over a recent 10-game stretch, and notched four double-doubles.

The reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, Rasheed earned her 17th career Ivy weekly award, bringing her Player of the Week tally to eight. Two years ago Rasheed suffered a torn ACL that ended her successful sophomore season, but she worked hard during rehabilitation and made a strong return.

In the 2008-09 season, Rasheed led Monte Vista to the Division I state championship game, when they lost to Long Beach Poly. She averaged nearly 21 points a game as a 6-foot-0 senior point guard, also directing the offense with power, confidence and superb passing.

Rasheed averaged 16.5 points and 7.4 rebounds over four years at Monte Vista. She holds the school record in career steals, rebounds, assists and points. She was also a three-time all-metro, All-Northern California and all-state selection.

She was a baller. California schools missed on her. Or maybe she would only go to Stanford.

Congratulations to Niveen, who has put in a lot of work after her ACL injury and is poised to be a 1st round pick in this year’s WNBA draft.
