How does Campo get that high rating at 9-4?
EC, MV, Mack, Tech and SM would run them right out of the gym.

  • redandblue2

Try again BigDog. Campo defeated El Cerrito in the Gauchos own gym 62-48 in a game they never trailed; in fact, they should probably be ranked ahead of El Cerrito. One of Campo’s 4 losses was to Modesto Christian, NorCalPreps 5th ranked team in Northern California and nearly defeated them. They are a solid team with no outstanding players, typical of the type of team they have put on the floor the last 10 years or so.

With Bishop O’Dowd likely being sent to the open division, Campolindo may be in line for the #1 seed in NCS, D3. A good gage for Campo will be when they meet Miramonte tomorrow night and Dublin a week from Friday. Perhaps then you can access if they are ranked too high.

where is the campo- mira game friday nite ans what time?

  • Gdog

The Open Division is not selected until after CIF Sectional Playoffs. All teams will play in their respective divisions and once the Section Champions have been crowned the Open Division will be set. If selected teams can not opt out. Teams also can’t opt in either they must be selected. Yes, they can make a request and lobby for it but you can not simply ask to be in and you are in. Thus BOD will be NCS DIII #1 seed and if the win the Section would almost assuredly be in the NorCal Open Division.

Gdog, thanks for clarifying the open division. Of course, BOD will be the D3 rep in NCS.

Campo is hosting the Mats tomorrow night at 7pm. The girls tip off at 5:30pm

OK, Red/Blue, I stand corrected. Rank them over El Cerrito. Are you saying Campo can take Mack, Tech or St. Marys? They are that talented?
I know they would have a very, very difficult time with the teams above them except EC as you correctly pointed out.
Why would Mira and Dublin be a gauge how good they are?
Modesto Christian ia a surprise and certainly a feather in their cap. Who else did they play or beat so far this year?

  • Prep Fan

Mira and Dublin are the 2 top teams that Campo needs to beat in order to win league. That would be a fair gauge to me. Should be a good rivalry game tonight at Campo. I see them beating the Mats and then losing to the Gaels.

  • redandblue2

Campo defeated Miramonte last evening likely setting up a showdown at Dublin next Friday. Dublin is the most talented team in the DFAL, by far, and are ranked as the top D2 team in NCS at the moment, though they can’t seem to defeat Newark, who has beat them twice.

Typical of a Campo team the last 10 years, they are a scrappy team full of gym rats. They don’t have much size, but they play a rotation of 10 to 11 players, wearing down opponents as was the case last night against Miramonte. They also have 6 to 7 scorers that can score 15+ on any given night which is an asset.

Prep Fan, I agree Dublin should win next week and also win the league, with Campo coming in second. However, last year Campo won league and defeated nearly the same Dublin team at Dublin with a mixture of pressing defense, depth and just enough scoring to frustrate Mcglaston, Andrews, Koeplin & Nielson. Should be a good game.

  • Prep Fan

I was at that game, and it could have gone either way. Nielson fouling out in the 4th quarter was a key point in the game. The second game at Campo was just a shell of the Dublin squad. I think Dublin is better this year and Campo may be equal to last year, but maybe not better? Should be another good game.
