D.J. Moffitt to sign with UNLV

Less than a week before signing day, De La Salle linebacker D.J. Moffitt gave an oral commitment to play at UNLV.

Moffitt (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) will enroll at UNLV in January of 2014 unless a fall scholarship opens up. He said he could use the fall to get bigger, strong and faster, and isn’t bothered by possibly having to wait to join the team.

“After my official visit, I just felt like it was the right decision,” Moffitt said. “I like the staff and what they have going on there.”

Rated as a three-star prospect by Scout and Rivals, Moffitt is the fourth member of the De La Salle defense to commit to a Division I school. Michael Hutchings (USC), Austin Hooper (Stanford) and Victor Egu (Yale) will also ink their letters of intent next week.

Moffitt, who had offers from Arizona, Colorado, Washington State and Nevada among others, said UNLV was his only official visit.

He will join former De La Salle teammate Anthony Williams at UNLV.

CCC’s Norton-Buford commits to Middle Tennessee State

Berkeley High graduate Aaron Norton-Buford, who played football last season for Contra Costa College, has orally committed to Middle Tennessee State.
“They have a good program and I feel I can excel both on the field and in the classroom,” said Norton-Buford, a 6-foot-4, 218-pound defensive end/outside linebacker.
Norton-Buford said that Middle Tennessee State coaches are looking at him as a defensive end. He was an 2012 all-Bay Valley Conference pick at defensive lineman, as he had 42 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles for losses and two forced fumbles last season.
“All the coaches, I felt like they were really genuine,” said Norton-Buford about his official visit to Middle Tennessee State in January. “What they were saying was real and coming out of their hearts.”
