Diablo Valley College defensive end Tui Talia, an Ygnacio Valley High graduate and a top prospect, has orally committed to Washington for the 2014 class, according to Scout.com.
Talia (6-5, 272), a non-qualifier out of high school, is planning to enroll in December. The Vikings’ star-studded 2012 team has spawned numerous Division I transfers, among them OL De’Ondre Wesley (6-7, 300), who is headed to BYU, and DE Kyle Kragen (Cal).
Vikings coach Mike Darr is a big Talia fan after seeing him grow and prosper on the defensive line last season. Talia spent time on Wednesday during his spring break helping Darr paint the Vikings locker room.
“He’s in the mold of Diablo Valley College defensive linemen: great motor,” Darr said. “The difference between him and the others is he’s got that ‘play on Sunday’ size.”
Darr said he expects Talia, whose brother Eric Finefeuiaki (West Texas A&M) was an all-State safety at DVC in 2011, to have a “huge” season in the fall.
“He loves the weight room. He loves the work,” Darr said, adding that he expects more offers to begin rolling in for Talia because of his rare combination of size and athletic ability.
