The Granada High athletic program has an opening for a boys basketball coach after Mike Wood recently resigned his position.
The well-liked Wood, who will be relocating to Folsom, where his wife works as a nurse, guided the Matadors to a 15-12 overall record and an 8-6 mark in the East Bay Athletic League last season. The Matadors fell 74-63 to James Logan in the first round of the North Coast Section Division I playoffs.
“He was definitely a great coach and teacher at Granada High School. Sorry to see him go,” Granada athletic director Clark Conover said on Monday. “He worked well with the kids, and we really wanted him to coach.”
Conover said Wood stepped down a few weeks ago, after he finished the season and held the team banquet. Conover said the boys basketball job is posted on the Livermore school district site.
Conover said Wood and his wife have a baby boy who is about 1 year old, and it was a challenge for them with her working in the Sacramento area while he worked at Granada.
