NCS baseball championship sites

There’s nothing set in stone yet, but the North Coast Section Division I baseball championship game will likely be at Saint Mary’s College on either Friday or Saturday. For Division II, if top seeded Casa Grande beats College Park (no easy task with Joe DeMers likely to be on the mound), that championship game would be played Saturday at Santa Rosa JC.

    JImmy and BenE at El Charro pre or post game?

  • Mr. Durkin;

    I was quite disappointed when I read this morning’s (May 30) CC/SRV Times and saw very little coverage of Amador’s HUGE 9-7 upset (if there can be huge upsets in HS baseball) of Granada in the NCS D1 semis, and instead, nearly a third of the whole high school section was devoted to ballyhooing DLS’s 5-1 win over Logan (a game DLS was supposed to win) and the Spartans going for two NCS D1 championships in a row on Saturday, June 1.
    Not to denigrate DLS’s baseball accomplishments this season, Granada was ranked #1 in the state by CalHi Sports, and not that long ago #2 west of the Atlantic by Freeman’s computer (MaxPreps). It’s fair to say the Matadors were the premier HS baseball team in NorCal (certainly in the East Bay)for most of the season. Their semi-final game against the Dons should have been better covered by the Times staff and their upset loss receive a lot more media write up.

    PS. I don’t follow HS baseball that closely. Can someone fill me in as to whether A.J. Pucket is DLS’s ace? Did Granada and/or Amador use their #1’s against each other? Who’s chucking for the Dons and Spartans on Saturday?

    The news and performance of the semi-final round was by Acalanes pitcher Johnny York who threw a perfect game, 16k’s, 5 infield grounders, against Sonoma Valley.

    The Div III final is Sat 1pm @ St. Mary’s Acalances vs Analy

  • Schoolmarm,
    It’s impossible to predict what games will end up being the best. On paper, DLS-Logan looked very intriguing. It was a rematch of the 2011 title game and a showdown of the past two champions. I could’ve seen that one going either way. Meanwhile, Granada had outscored AV 20-0 in two games. So I chose to attend the DLS-Logan game. Obviously, as it turns out, the best games of the night were the wild AV-Granada upset, the Johnny York perfect game for Acalanes and the 13-inning College Park game. Unfortunately we didn’t have reporters at any of those (we only have two staffers available to send to baseball games) and that’s just the way it goes sometimes.

    Mr. Durkin;

    I appreciate you taking the time to answer my comments from yesterday. I certainly now understand why you were not able to cover the Granada-Amador semi-final. I assumed your staff was somewhat shorthanded, but I didn’t realize it was that “lean”.
    Good luck covering the NCS Bsbl Finals.

    Thanks again,
