Wolves’ Winaker commits to Stanford baseball

Incoming San Ramon Valley High senior Matt Winaker has orally committed to Stanford to play baseball, according to Wolves baseball coach Chris de Clercq.

Winaker, a quarterback on the Wolves football team, batted .338 and played first base and outfielder last season, making honorable mention all-East Bay Athletic League. He had eight two-hit games, including going 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a home run against De La Salle.

“He’s a good kid, obviously, very intelligent, good player, our No. 3 hitter all year,” de Clercq said.

Winaker’s parents both went to Stanford. The Cardinal was his first choice.

“I know that once the offer came from Stanford it was pretty much a done-deal,” de Clercq said.

Ex-San Ramon Valley left-hander John Hochstatter was a sophomore left-hander at Stanford last season. He had a 3-3 record with a 3.88 earned run average.

Heard that Moreau HS let the entire coaching staff go for Baseball. Can anyone confirm that and if they did who are they looking at to take over the program.
