Acalanes High football teams has something to build on

Some major changes to its offense and defense helped the Acalanes High football team complete last season with seven victories — its best win total in years.

The Dons finished in a three-way tie for third place in the Diablo Foothill Athletic League standings and reached the North Coast Section Division III playoffs before losing a heartbreaker to Bishop O’Dowd in the first round.

Their four losses came by a combined total of 14 points.

“We left it all out on the field, we just fell a little short,” coach Mike Ivankovich said. “We want to build on that, we want to take one more step forward but at the same time these aren’t the same guys. These guys have to make their own statement. You build on it, but it’s also a fresh start.”

    * After the regular season, Serra could opt to go CCS D2, their enrollment division and a CIF D2 division. If this were to be the case, then the Padres would be projected at 12-3, and in the CIF D2 Finals. At this point, this wouldn’t affect their preseason ranking though.
