Darrien Washington, a 6-foot-2 senior center at Skyline High, confirmed Tuesday that she has orally committed to Nebraska.
“I just thought it was a fit for me and they stuck around for a while. They were with me before I joined Cal Stars (Nike Elite girls youth basketball team this summer),” Washington said.
She visited Nebraska last weekend. “I liked it a lot. I liked the college, the people … it was kind of like a second home,” said Washington, who also seriously considered Utah before choosing the Huskers.
Last season, Washington averaged 16.4 points per game, 12.6 rebounds per game and 4.9 blocks per game. She was a first-team All-City pick in the Oakland Athletic League.
Cal Stars teammate Natalie Romeo, a 5-foot-7 point guard from Carondelet High, committed to Nebraska in early August. “I was interested in Nebraska before I knew Nat. It’s a bonus that one of my closest friends is going to the same school as me,” Washington said.
