HELLO Anybody out there?? How about Moreau Catholic 4-0

  • PERKIN

Don’t know why Campo is not #2. Analy disproved the D1 will beat most D3′s WHICH I happen to agree with

  • Joey

Once again, Clayton Valley…. OVERRATED! Look at the past 2 teams they played and the next 5…… C’mon MAN!

  • chalk talk

how many coaches are teaching 4 points of pressure?
    and what r the benefits

  • FB Guru

I agree, way to much Div I bias in this poll. Campo beat EC soundly by two touchdowns.

  • Pez

Moreau has had a soft schedule and they’ve allowed a lot of points. Next they have an improved Kennedy, then Newark Memorial and Washington. If they go through those games undefeated, I would guess they would be ranked.

  • Juinior Johnson

Good looking poll. We dont know much about Foothill yet. We will find out in EBAL play tho

  • Harper 16035

I cant disagree with you Pez, but there should be mention about Moreau I mean Monta vista is 1-2 a losing record and they got votes. Just because your record was great last year doesn’t mean you will be good this year and visa versa.

  • Pez

It is an interesting year with Campo and MC beating Heritage, Acalanes beating Castro Valley and Analy beating Pitt. It does prove that solid D3 programs can compete with D1. But I still think that a lot has been predicated on the Analy win over Pitt which I continue to believe is an anomaly.

  • Pez

Yea, Monte Vista shouldn’t be there!

  • trojan

Most people don’t realize that Pitt was missing much more than Harris Ross vs Analy. There were several starters out for half or all of that game due to suspensions for things that happened over the summer. Analy did a great job and the win was well deserved, but the game should not serve as an adequate d3/d1 comparison.

  • Harper 16035

the need to make the pole 20 teams why15?????

  • trojan

Deer Valley should be number 2

  • EB Prep Fan

Schedule does look soft, but they definitely can score some points. At the very least, it seems that they have a hell of a running back and probably some decent offensive linemen!

  • Pez

    DFAL Rankings:

    1. Campo – 4-0 – Great win over El Cerrito cements them as #1 until someone unseats them in league play.
    2. Miramonte – 3-1 – 37-0 at half against improved Alameda should be a good sign of things to come.
    3. Acalanes – 4-0 – Big win over Tennyson. Jr QB seems to be getting comfortable with offense.
    4. Las Lomas – 2-2 – Fell to very good Northgate team in relatively close one. Appear light on offense, but defense looks stout.
    5. Dougherty Valley – 3-1 – Wins over Newark Memorial, American and Antioch. How high can they go?
    6. Alhambra – 1-2-1 – Decisive loss against Maria Carillo movest them down. Can they avoid the annual swoon?
    7. Dublin – 2-2 – Win over YV could be last win for a while. Could go 0-6 in league play and end 2-8.

    DFAL Games:

Campo @ Acalanes – I look for a hard fought game and Acalanes has the running game in Pete Mitchell to get the upsest. But two things I don’t like: I don’t see a strong enough pass rush to knock Zolintakis off his game and when Acalanes has to pass, and they will have to pass, bad things will happen. Very bad things! Pete Mitchell will have 150+ yards of rushing, but Acalanes throws 2 picks and is frustrated in their passing game.

    Campo 31 – Acalanes 24

Dublin @ Miramonte – Should be over at half as Miramonte has their easiest game of the season.

    Miramonte 35 – Dublin 7

Las Lomas @ Alhambra – Both teams coming off a loss and both trying to stay relevant. This is tough one and perhaps the best game of the week in DFAL. I’m going with the upset in this game with a low-scoring Knights team playing good defense, but not scoring enough for the win against the desperate Bulldogs team playing at home.

    Alhambra 21 – Las Lomas 17

  • Mark Souza

Monte Vista would most likely beat Moreau.. Moreau has a lot more to prove and its probably best for them for it to be that way. Keeps em hungry

  • redandblue2

Just as no one predicted Campo would defeat El Cerrito, Campo should be mindful of both Acalanes and Miramonte the next two weeks; each of whom will be underdogs to Campo.
What is setting Campo apart from the rest of the DFAL is their program from Freshman on up. Coach Macy has set up a system that everyone has bought into, from parents to coaches to the players. The last 3 years have brought consecutive championships at the Freshman, JV & Varsity levels in the DFAL allowing Coach Macy to bring in players to reload rather than rebuild at the varsity level.
I read a post in norcalpreps that stated there likely wasn’t one Campo skill player that would start for El Cerrito on offense or defense and I would have to agree. At the high school level a few good athletes can usually allow a team to dominate its opponents. Campo has good football players, no question, but there must be something about the coaching to produce what happened last Friday in Moraga.

  • PERKIN

foothill is loaded bro. I’ve known for months

  • Juniorjohnson

Foothill has barely played a team with a pulse. Foothill has some nice skill players but that wont get it done in the EBAL. Unless Foothill’s LOS play and defense are much improved ove rthe last couple years, they will be fighting for 3rd or 4th place. Falcons non league schedule has been too weak to get cocky.

  • FB Guru

    R&B2,

I agree with you, but it has only been 2 years with the possibility of this being the 3rd. But what changed? Macy’s offense and defensive scheme look the same as three years ago when they went 0-6 in the DFAL. I heard that they had some minor NCS recruiting violations in their Frosh program this past off-season, but that was bull$hit since they were recruiting kids who were destined for Campo anyway, not some kids coming out of Richmond or Oakland.

What has really changed at Campo since the 2010 season?

  • Pez

Macy has proven his worth, but his constant “Woe is me!” speeches have gotten old. His most recent quote is that if you put tennis rackets in the hands of the football team, you’d think they were a tennis team. Good line, but a little silly! Campo gets a pretty good selection of athletes – much better than Miramonte, probably a little better than Acalanes.

I really respect the job he’s done, but the big difference in the latest run of success is athletes. I agree they don’t get the obvious Jalen Harvey, Freddie Tagaloa, Olito Thompson’s (although what about Brett Stephens?), but they get a large number of athletic kids. Walking around after the Mira/Campo JV game last year I was struck by how many fairly large, athletic kids they had on JV versus the Mira team. That will reverse at some point, but until then Campo will likely enjoy success and Macy will come off as a savant instead of what he is which is a very good coach.

  • EB Prep Fan

When I saw Campo they looked huge! Much bigger and stronger than any tennis teams I’ve seen.

Another question I have is how these Miramonte and Campo teams constantly pump out good teams with no youth football? Do the kids travel out of the area to play or do they play flag? Are the freshmen really usually playing their first year of contact football? Just wondering…

  • Pez

Not much youth football. Some flag, but no contact football. Most kids, I’m guessing 75%, have never played football when they suit up as a freshman player at Miramonte. Almost none have played tackle football.

Flag is getting bigger and Campo has a good full contact youth camp every summer (Miramonte just started one and hopefully it grows).

Two things: First, kids around here are pretty active: swimming, basketball, soccer, baseball, etc. so its not like they’re coming off the couch. Second, kids are professional game players! Think about it, give a kid a video game and he figures it out in a day. It is somewhat true with football. What I saw is that frosh can be pretty rough playing against other teams that have played tackle football. But by JV, the gap has closed considerably and by varsity other factors far outweigh years of football played by the kids on the team.

  • Tampa2

CVC should be no higher then the 12 spot

  • redandblue2

FB Guru, you always hear that if a coach doesn’t have the talent, all the scheming in the world won’t win you football games. Well, clearly Campo has had some talented kids the last few years in which Coach Macy has been able to coach and win games. Campo varsity did go 1-5 in league 3 seasons ago, yet they still made the playoffs with a 5-5 record. Campo doesn’t win against El Cerrito without those talented players. However, Campo hasn’t had any D1 scholarship football athletes the last several seasons with the exception of a punter. Campo has been the states D3 team of the year 3 times in the last 5 years, according to Cal-Hi sports and almost made it 3 years in a row last season. Coach Macy epitomizes they type of coach who can get more than the sum of the parts, as typified by his win agaisnt El Cerrito with their 6 D1 athletes.

  • Old Former Meddling Coach

@Pez,Ya boys looking good you showing ya gold teeth? :-)

  • Pez

Actually, it was an ugly win. At least the first half we had 2 t/o’s and a zillion penalties. But hay, we still scored 21 and kept them out of the endzone. And this crew of refs is around a lot and you always know they’ll throw the flag at every opportunity. Hopefully, this will give the team lots to focus on in preparation for Campo.

I like this win because it feels like it confirms that Miramonte got the better end of the Wade/Schram deal. I mean, Dublin is in a rebuilding year, but they still have big guys, fast guys, more guys, a returning QB. They were a mess on offense and defense. I’m not interested in putting down a coach, but I would like to see Coach Schram get some of the credit he deserves.

Encinal has to be concerned that Vallejo gave them so much trouble, but maybe they are just better than their record indicates.

  • EB Prep Fan

Coach Schram is a real good coach and a great guy…..not that my opinion means a great deal, but….

  • Old Former Meddling Coach

Coach Schram is a good guy and a good coach,Encinal gave us trouble back in 91,93 and 95 when i was with Kennedy. I think My Jets just need to play with more confidence and they’ll be alright. Jet Pride!

  • PERKIN
