Girls Volleyball: Teams on the Rise, Rankings, Standings

Pecking orders in each of the leagues are starting to be sorted out, and some teams are starting to rise as the season starts to enter it’s final month before the playoffs. Let’s take a look at some of the teams on the rise.

San Ramon Valley

Two great hitters in sophomores Katherine Claybaugh and Milla Anderson are just two of the many reasons this team may be establishing itself as tops in Division I and the EBAL. The Wolves have responded to a humbling three-set loss to Campolindo by winning 11 matches in a row, including four in EBAL play without dropping a single set.

Las Lomas

After going on an incredible run last year, the Knights might be at it again. They have won seven of their last eight matches, losing only to Foothill in Tournament play, and their loss before this streak that was in league to a very good Campolindo team. The Knights are the only team to take a set off Campo in league play so far.

College Prep

Running away and hiding in the BCL-East, the Cougars have raced out to a 7-0 start in league and have made tournament losses to Piedmont and Miramonte a distant memory.

Concord

Of its six losses, four of them are tough tournament losses to very good teams. The only non-league, non-tournament loss is to Dublin, a team they have beat in tournament play. The only league loss was in five to Northgate. This team has been very consistent all year, and has a great setter, outside hitter and libero. Watch out.

Northgate

Getting healthier and getting better. Since being swept at Carondelet, have won five of six matches, going unbeaten in DVAL play and taking a set off of San Ramon Valley in a non-league game.

Moreau Catholic

Despite being the smallest school in the Mission Valley Athletic League, the Mariners have emerged as a clear cut favorite in the league, taking 12 of 14 sets in league play so far. They have also established themselves as a legit Division IV title contender.

Albany

Quietly chugging along, shaking off two early season tournament losses to win eight straight matches and taking complete control of the TCAL-Rock Division by beating St. Pat’s and St. Joe’s in three games. The Cougars are a sleeper team in the Division III bracket where most people are focusing on Campolindo and Bishop O’Dowd.

Rankings

One change in the top five as San Ramon Valley flip flops with Cal. The Wolves are playing very, very good volleyball right now and are setup to have a great showdown with Monte Vista for the top spot in the EBAL.
Moreau Catholic and Albany both jump up one spot after perfect weeks, while Las Lomas is back in the rankings on the strength of seven wins in its last eight matches.
