Girls Volleyball: League Races, Rankings, Standings

Some league races are still tight, and some are all but over. Here’s a look at how the league’s are looking.

BCL-E

It appears that College Prep and Head-Royce are destined to finish in a tie for the regular season title, meaning a potential third meeting between the two in the league tournament will decide the champion.

BVAL

Heritage has a big leg-up on everyone, despite two teams only being a game back. Liberty and Deer Valley may pose road challenges to the Patriots, but I don’t expect them to lose a league game.

DFAL

Campo is in complete control, especially with the way the five teams in the middle of the pack keep beating up on each other. What a crazy league.

DVAL

Northgate was supposed to be vulnerable in this league this season, but after getting past Concord a second time, another league title is only a formality at this point.

EBAL

It was thought when the season started that 3-4 losses could still win this league. Now there are three teams with three losses (Carondelet, Cal, Foothill) that are likely too far back in the league race because San Ramon Valley has taken charge. Those teams are still alive, and Monte Vista is only two games back, but SRV looks like it will re-gain the league.

MVAL

This league has separated itself to a two-team race. If Moreau beats Newark in the second matchup, the league is over, but if Newark wins, we could have a playoff between the two once again.

TCAL-Rock

Albany just needs to win once and it wins the league. First chance is this Tuesday at home against St. Joe.

TCAL-Stone

Hercules has taken a one-game lead, but Swett and Pinole Valley are within a game. Could be a good race down the stretch.

WACC-Foothill

Bishop O’Dowd is still the heavy favorite, despite just a one-game lead. If Berkeley gets past Piedmont again, it should come down to Halloween when the Dragons visit the Yellowjackets.

WACC-Shoreline

Mt. Eden and Arroyo are the two teams in the running for the league title, with Mt. Eden leading by a game and appearing to be fairly safe after a four-set win over Arroyo recently.

Rankings

Campolindo fans might be upset or confused, but when choosing a number one team this week, I decided to pick a team that has been playing like a clear cut No. 1, and that is San Ramon Valley. The Wolves, since losing in three sets to Campo, have won 15 straight matches, including beating Monte Vista and Carondelet in four, and Cal and Foothill in three.
The top five is essentially re-arranged as MV drops one spot to No. 2, Campolindo climbs to No. 3, and O’Dowd comes it at No. 4. These last two could switch pending the remaining Stockton Tourney results I need.
Carondelet, winners of 7 of 8, gets back into the top five.
Dougherty Valley has won 8 of 10, and is back at No. 12 as it appears to have righted the ship, while Newark Memorial is also back in the top 15.
