Freedom High star running back Joe Mixon announced his top three teams Saturday afternoon via Twitter.
“Top 3:Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Ucla! 3 Hats on Table at Army Game!” he tweeted. Mixon has said that he plans to announce his decision at the Army All-American Game on Jan. 4 in San Antonio.
On Dec. 3, he announced that Cal was one of his top four teams, but it didn’t make the cutdown to three schools Saturday.
Mixon rushed for 1,704 yards and 28 touchdowns in 11 games his senior year, including 470 yards and nine touchdowns in two North Coast Section playoff games. He produced 4,281 rushing yards and 76 touchdowns during his three-year varsity career.
Five players on the Contra Costa College football team this year are headed to Division I schools, said coach Alonzo Carter.
Defensive back Dominique Harrison is headed to Oregon, Carter said. Harrison, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound defensive back, was the California Region III Defensive Player of the Year this season.
Two Comets signed with Florida A & M. — Antoine Pickett, the De La Salle High graduate who was an all-California Region III defensive back this season, and fullback Keir Abrams, a Berkeley High graduate.
The other two Comets headed to Division I schools are linebackers Travon Brooks (a McClymonds High graduate) to UC Davis and Darnell Dailey, an all-California Region III selection, to Texas State.
