D4 Possibly eligible for CIF D4 regionals.
(+) These rankings are primarily for teams in CIF D3 section divisions, and Christian plays in SDS D3, a CIF D2 section division. However, since Christian’s enrollment is only 390, it’s eligible for the CIF D4 South Regionals if it wins SDS D3, which is a strong likelihood.
Also, there’s a strong likelihood that St. Francis of Mtn.View will win CCS D3, a CIF D3 division, and be picked to play the NCS D3 winner in the North regionals. It’s this writer’s belief, though, that WCAL teams that don’t qualify for the CCS Open, should not be allowed to play in the CCS enrollment divisions playoffs so St. Francis has not been included in these rankings. Also, should Christian not win SDS D3, most likey Central Catholic, if they win SJS D4, will be bumped up to CIF D3 and play the NCS D3 winner instead. It’s fair to say that there are no other South D4 teams, other than perhaps Bish. Diego, Santa Fe Christian of Solana Beach, and St. Joseph of Santa Maria, all of whom have been eliminated in their playoffs, that are anywhere near the caliber of Central. The Commissioners don’t want another embarrassing annihilation like last year in a state championship game!

Are you joking?!?! I can’t imagine it will be very entertaining; 15 minutes of football while the game is still competitive followed by 2 hours of gushing about how good DLS is while they trample Cal. This is especially maddening when there are other great finals match-ups that should be featured. Marin Catholic/El Cerrito should be an awesome game. Casa Grande/Miramonte should be a barnburner. Even Fortuna/St. Mary’s would be better than DLS/Cal.

  • Perkin

Yeah Comcast really blew it. Stream DLS free online. MC vs EC could go down as an all time great.

  • TK

Agree with Pez, there are many entertaining games than DLS / Cali

  • Prep Fan 1

Comcast must not have been informed of the score when these 2 teams played last month. Don’t think I’d want to be an advertiser for a commercial aired in the 2nd half.

  • barononionfb

    Hey Guys, remember it’s Comcast!

  • Perkin

Mira, what are your thoughts on Casa Grande? How would you rate them compared to MC and Campo?

  • EB Prep Fan

Casa is very big up front and in the offensive backfield. I think this will cause big problems for Miramonte. But the Casa pass defense is a little suspect, so Miramonte will score often I think. I think it’s gonna be a high scoring game unless Casa can control the ball with long drives. To win I’m thinking Casa will have to score 45 or more…..and that might not be enough? They are similar to Campo, but cannot throw the ball as well.

  • Pez

I feel about as good as a person can feel going into a game against an undefeated team that has two dynamic play makers and a big line.
The only Casa game I saw was vs Newman. For those that say “Casa played Newman so they can defend the spread”, I can only say that MIramonte’s spread looks nothing like Newman’s; Miramonte’s got a better QB, running back, receivers and probably O-line. On defense, we have faster, more physical LBs than Newman, D-line is bigger and DBs definitely tackle better than what I saw.
All in all, I say Miramonte holds Casa to around 28 points; won’t be any shut-out, but also no cheap points against Miramonte’s defense. So the question is can Miramonte get 30-35 points? I think so, but their defensive scheme looked more solid than what we saw against Nothgate or Clayon Valley (cover 3 zone all night long!). I really think it comes down to how healthy Miramonte’s receivers are; if they can cover us, they win…otherwise, Miramonte take home the trophy!
Generally, first one to 35 wins!
    Prediction: Miramonte 35 – Casa Grande 28

  • EB Prep Fan

I think Miramonte will give up high 35-45 points, but I don’t think Casa can handle Miramonte’s passing game. I don’t think Casa has seen a QB like Anderson. I might be wrong, because I’m not totally familiar with the schedule they played. Of course, the game could be lower scoring if Casa can sustain the pound it out long drives.
Btw…..I think MC or EC would destroy either or these teams.
Sorry…..I couldn’t resist one last shot! Good luck to both. Both coaches are really classy dudes!

  • Perkin

Pulling for Miramonte. Bring one back to the East Bay.

What happened to cal’s cameron owen?

  • EBAL fan

He suffered a non-contact broken pelvis vs. Livermore in week 9. Tough ending for him. Lorenz jumped in quite nicely despite no reps for two years, with good wins against DoVal, SRV and Pitt. Cal still has no answer for DLS and the veer. The window for ANY NorCal public to challenge Sparta in FB over the past decade and foreseeable future has closed and rests with another NorCal private such as Serra or the Bells. Folsom’s QB will be scrambling under duress just like Trosin in that ASG.

  • Prep Fan 1

Although Owen’s injury took place without getting hit, it almost had to have already been broken from a previous tackle. He was scrambling and had already gotten the first down when he slowed to juke the defender and just crumpled to the ground, ending his high school career. It was tough watching him and Zach Guardino, 2 of Cal’s best players, standing on the sidelines watching their teammates battle in the NCS championship game. Guardino broke his hip and punctured a lung vs Pitt during a key fake punt, getting the first down which led to a Cal TD and helped defeat the Pirates. His INT in the end zone was also a huge play that helped fend off SRV the previous week.

  • EBAL fan

The WR is a Jr so he gets another year. He’s got skills like his big brother in the same role so that’ll help Cal. Regarding the injured QB he could’ve been piloting Sparta to another SBG but was not admitted his frosh year. Relocating to SR (domino effect Kearns heads over to Foothill) to be Billeci’s QB was the next best move and being out at the end must’ve been frustrating for them. Once he recovers he could take the Kaehler-JUCO route and come out okay. IMO, both Cal QBs are simply better (one running, the other passing) than the Sparta signal caller, although as a dual-sport, his calling at the next level will be baseball. He made an Area Code roster.

  • Prep Fan 1

It’s my understanding Owen isn’t going to pursue sports in college. He does well academically and is planning on just being a student and enjoying the college life. He probably would do well at a JC if that appealed to him. It will be interesting to see who takes over the reigns at QB for the Grizz next year.

  • renegades10

If Williams was able to put more time into being a QB, I think he could’ve developed into a FBS QB. Yes, he’s short, but has a big arm and is very mobile. But obviously being a dual sport athlete makes that tough to do. Believe he has an offer to play at Montana which is a solid FCS program, but I would think he is a baseball lean at this point.

  • EBAL fan

The assumption he was trying to get recruited to the next level was because his highlight videos were being regularly updated on YT until last month along with ’11 and ’12. He must’ve changed his mind and a pelvis issue has to be pretty serious if considered “dual threat.”
Does anyone know if there’s going to be a local All-Star FB game in two weeks? Those are fun and gives a lot of players one more chance to hit. That Cal RB should be in it for sure.
