De La Salle High cross country star Blair Hurlock is headed to the Foot Locker National Finals after an eighth-place finish in the seeded race of the Foot Locker West Regional today.
Hurlock finished with a time of 15 minutes, 45.3 seconds on the 3.1 mile Mt. San Antonio College course. The top 10 finishers from each seeded regional race qualified for the national finals on Dec. 14 in San Diego.
In conditions which Hurlock described as “supper muddy and rainy”, he made a big move on the uphill switchback portion of the second mile and at one point was leading in the second mile, he said in a phone interview.
“It’s been something I’ve been shooting for my whole high school career,” said the senior about qualifying for the Foot Locker National Finals.
Hurlock was the second California finisher in the race, which included runners from 12 states. Trevor Reinhart was fifth in 15:44.0. The winner was Matthew Maton of Oregon in 15:38.9.
